My Mom (92) & Dad (96) lived at Vernon Woods (independent living side) for two years, and both loved being there. The first time my Dad and I visited, one of the long time residents said, "It's like living on a cruise ship --- we have our very own chef (who has his own TV show) that prepares the absolute best meals --- we go on excursions all the time --- the staff and other residents are like family --- I've enjoyed living here for eight years!!!" Even though my Mom was not keen on moving there to begin with, she knew it would be good for my Dad. Within two weeks of being there, her attitude totally changed, and she was saying, "I just love it here --- I can walk down the hall to get my hair done, Chef Jeff's meals are great, the staff is super, did you know so and so lives here, it sure is nice to have someone come clean the apartment and change the bed --- they couldn't be nicer --- we get to go on so many trips, we've met so many new friends --- I love walking down to the lake and seeing the ducks and duckiings, geese and goslings ...........". My Dad said many times, "I wish we had moved here 5 years sooner, so we could get involved with more activities --- the people here are just Great! --- it sure is easy to get around --- did you know they even take us to our doctors, Walmart, church, ... --- the TV / movie room is great --- I'm doing the exercise classes --- I'm doing Luminosity --- I'm doing ... --- did you know so and so lives here ..........". From our standpoint, as their "kids", we loved going for visits, thoroughly enjoyed the meals, staff, and other residents, the grounds and facilities were always well kept up, but the most important thing for us was we knew that our parents were kept safe and loved by the whole Vernon Woods Family, and it is truly a Family.
