"I am pleasantly and positively impressed with the amount and variety of activities that are offered to the residents of Three Crowns. The coverage in terms of hours of the day with activationists/recreation therapists is more than what I see in other organizations. The staff appear to know the residents very well, so that they know how to tailor the programs and encourage participation in the programming. "

"When I moved into my apartment, all I had to do was place my furniture and unpack boxes. The apartment was perfectly clean. The food is very good. There are many options to choose from so you can always find something you would like to eat. At times, for me personally, the food is sometimes not served hot enough. But that is personal preference. The staff and residents here are very friendly and helpful. While I have been to several facilities, this is the only place where most everyone at least greets you with a "hello" in the hallway. And there are so many activities daily that if you spend the day in your apartment, that is your choice. You never have to be alone."

"Founded by holocaust survivors, Selfhelp Home is one of the better-known nonprofit Jewish assisted living/retirement communities in Chicago. The food is kosher, the residents are almost all Jewish and the staff/resident ratios are high. Despite rather high monthly costs, the facilities are not plush: they're clean, functional, safe, and well-maintained but not luxurious. Well-run Medicaid nursing homes look pretty similar. The money goes largely for staff and there are a lot of them: residents can and do get help at any point of the day with just about any task. The home also offers a wide range of activities ranging from book clubs to field trips. Generally, residents seem to like it. "

"The Clare was very nice but a little expensive. The facility was excellent, like a 5-star hotel. They had the medical facilities, a wellness center, and an emergency team that can take you to the hospital or an ambulance. The staff was very well organized. They had a marketing team and staff who helped people. They had a chef and three kinds of places to eat, one being a very formal place, the second a bistro, and the third for coffee and snacks. It's a very large place with 54 floors."

"My tour at Covenant Living at the Holmstad was fantastic. We met with Ray, and he was very good at explaining where everything is, all the inside things and the outside facility, walking areas, and garden areas. He was so good at explaining just how everything works there, so we really appreciated the extra things that we didn't even think about. The rooms were adequate for an individual or two people. They're roomy enough and bright, with a nice window, and the bathroom is appropriate for just a step-in shower. There's no tub, so that a big help to seniors. Everything that they would need is there. There are studio rooms, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms. Sometimes there are couples who move in there. They have a pool and a room to do workouts and to do physical therapy. They also have a woodworking shop, and my stepdad was very glad to hear about that part of it. The dining room is very nice, it has tablecloths, and it's adequate. They have kind of a snack area, too, where you can just go up to a counter and ask for a snack or whatever, something light. They have a nice walking area outside with plenty of benches, and they have an outside garden that you can help in or do some gardening if you wish. Everyone we talked to was happy to be there."

"My parents have been residents for a short period of time and have already adjusted wonderfully! First I have to say that the facility is immaculate! Fresh water stations with fruit and seating areas throughout! The staff is so nice and very helpful with anything you need. Their apartment is very spacious with every accommodation you can think of! Motion sensors, grab bars, modified tub for easy access, higher outlets and more. They are most excited about the convenience of the dining room that offers a big selection on the menu. They love to participate in all the events provided where they have already made many friends. Overall my parents couldn’t be happier about their decision to transition to independent living from their single family residence of 60 years and in turn makes the entire family happy!"

"My Grandmother and Grandfather moved into this facility about 12 years ago. The place is very nice, good food, a swimming pool, exercise facilities, small library, ponds, patios, excellent grounds, and many other great facilities. My grandparents stayed in the apartments, but as the years went on my grandpa had to move to the assisted living area. He was well cared for. My grandma still lives there today and has no complaints. "

"Windsor Park Manor has all levels. They have independent apartments and then they have additional memory and short and long term care. The sales and marketing team are very helpful, informative, accessible and very nice. The place is wonderful and all the people we've met, whether the people who live there or work there, are always unbelievably nice and helpful. They have three or four choirs. They have volunteer activities, probably more, in the summer. They have a woodworking shop, fitness clubs, libraries and computer rooms, a lot of travel, plus bus trips to events as well as to grocery stores and things of that nature. "

"The apartments are varied in size and amenities. We love ours. Interactions with the other residents her is amazing. They are the friendliest people I've met. We have a great staff, assisting the residents here, for our needs and serving in the dining areas. The grounds are beautiful, and there are so many activities, it's impossible to be involved in all of them."

"This facility is located on the north side of chicago it serves a population of adults who have been diagnoised with a developmental disability. They only provide services to female residents. While there I noticed some of the residents were sharing a room. They have a full clinical staff that provides services to the residents 24 hrs a day. the meals are prepared by the staff, and on special occassions and when doing food activites, the staff will allow the residents to assist in the preparation of the meals. The facility is clean, and well-maintained. The staff is very hands on, and the residents seem to have a closeness with one another. In general, I would rank this facility a 4 out of 5 stars. "

"We liked Covenant Village of Northbrook because it is close to where my parents live now and it is a continuing care community, so they could go from independent to assisted to skilled nursing. We liked that it is a Christian community and they have friends who live there. It felt more homey and had a lot of activities and a shuttle that could take Mom to church on Sundays. We really liked the people there and the atmosphere. They had a little bistro and a nice media room where the residents could watch programs like the Super Bowl. They take the residents to downtown Northbrook for shopping, concerts, shows, and different places. "
