"It was an excellent facility. It is pleasing and very clean. The tour we had was excellent - not rushed, very informative. We had a lot of questions which were answered satisfactorily. As for the activities, they were talking about their travel club at the facility while we were there. In another room, they were having discussions about the Presidents’ Week. There was some baking going on in the kitchen. The food was excellent and the dining room was fine."

"HarborChase of Branford is where my mother wants to go. It was nice. They were the most reasonably priced. They have different levels. They have levels one to three, and then once your money runs out, Medicaid kicks in. It's not going to be the same facility, but they take her to another facility where she's cared for and Medicaid pays for that, so I kind of liked that, too. At least I know she has another place to go when the money runs out. The model room that they showed us was very nice. The dining room was very nice. They have to do repairs on the floors and stuff there, which he says they're in the process of doing. The meals looked OK. What they're going to cook for lunch or dinner, they put out on display to show the people what they have. If they don't like what they're serving, they can get something else. I didn't meet the staff. We just met the salesman who told us about the place and showed us the model, but he was very nice. He said that whoever goes to visit Mom can also have dinner with them for $10. They have happy hour, which she would enjoy because she likes her beer. They go on trips and you have to pay for the ticket but they take you places. I have to inform them ahead of time for doctor visits, but they also take her to her doctor visits. They have a rec room, a hairdresser, a beauty salon, and a chapel. They have a lot there for her. This is the best-priced one so far that I've seen. They're the most reasonable for what they offer."

"My grandmother is in Water's Edge Center for Health and Rehabilitation. It's very clean, very simple, and everybody seems very kind. She doesn't like the food so much and doesn't participate, but they have physical activities like wellness, and a shuttle to a shopping center."

"I went to The Village at Mariner's Point. There were lots of windows with gorgeous views. It's clean and bright, and they have so many different facilities. They had a movie theater, a pub, a pool, and all these beautiful amenities. The dining room was phenomenal; it's like a restaurant. I would absolutely recommend it. They have independent, assisted, and a memory care program. The rooms were spacious, and the views were lovely as well. I saw a studio, an apartment, and a deluxe model. My mom has large furniture. They have angles on the ceiling, so a lot of her furniture wouldn't fit into it. The staff was funny, friendly, very polite, energetic, very knowledgeable, and very pleasant. I didn't have much interaction with them, but they were tending to the residents. They had so many programs. It's unbelievable. They have a variety of food. They have a regular menu that you can order off of with specials. It looks like they could accommodate for the needs of the residents. They're very aware of their dietary needs. It's gorgeous with all the amenities, the cleanliness, and how bright it is."

"Elmbrook Village is a nice community, it's newer, and I like the proximity to my house. It's actually not too far from my parents either. The tour was good too. There was an outdoor area for memory care. It's a walled-in area that has picnic tables, but it has an overhang like an awning that's built into the building. So if it's rainy or snowy out, you're covered. I liked the staff very much. The memory care is in one wing, and it's not too big, so it seems manageable. They have an activity/TV area on one side and the cafeteria on the other side. They were doing music when we visited, so they were trying to get the residents to sing along. The other time I went, they were eating together at tables and in between eating, they seemed to converse to each other as much as they could. I like the width of the rooms. If you have a wheelchair or a walker, it seems like the width of the doorway is better accommodated for that. The facility was newer, it was nice, it seemed clean, and it didn't smell. It was bright, and on the outside it had some color, not just white or gray, so it's more inviting. I like that the menu has certain stuff in case they don't like what the daily menu has. They try to give them something new for the whole facility every day, but when you're in memory care, you have the ability to say that you're not interested in the menu, and you can get a chicken sandwich or a hamburger. They have a choice, so that's nice. I like the location, too, because it's not too far from the highway but also not close to much, so they're not getting distracted if they walk outside."

"I am a resident of Covenant Living of Cromwell. The residents who live here and the staff work together; everybody is very friendly, and they make it easy for people to transition into this place. If you're going from independent living to assisted living, or to memory care, or to Pilgrim Manor, which is skilled nursing care, they make those transitions easy. And they have people who regularly talk with people who are interested in coming here. So they meet the residents, and they chat with them. It's just a very friendly place with lots of activities. The staff works hard. This is a non-profit organization, and they're highly restricted by their budget. I think that maintenance and upkeep would be better if they had more funding, but that's what it is. We're provided with a food allowance, a certain amount of money, and that usually allows you to get a full meal, like an entree plus four sides every day. It works out for most people. But I do some of my own cooking. I don't usually eat breakfast with the community. I eat breakfast at home, I make my own coffee and toast, and stuff like that. The presentation is usually very good. Taste varies depending on what it is that they're trying to make. Sometimes when they're trying to make specialty things like Mexican or Korean, it can be a little too spicy for some people. But they are very receptive to people having allergies. They're aware that a lot of people have gluten sensitivity or celiac disease. They're also aware that people have allergies to particular foods, and they try to work with the clients to make sure that they have food for everybody, including vegetarians. They have everything from playing cards to fitness classes. There's a small fitness area with machines that you can use. They have free weights, a treadmill, and another machine that you stand on and basically walk. They have trips outside. For example, last summer, we did a lobster roll contest where we went to all these places that made lobster rolls, we tasted them, and then voted on which one was the best choice. So it was fun. They have all kinds of activities; they just went bowling the other day and had lunch out. I've been on trips where we went down to the shoreline, and we got on a boat tour of the Thimble Islands. They do boat tours around Rhode Island. They have all kinds of activities. We have a hiking club. Usually, once a month, the hiking club takes people on the community bus, and they walk on a trail that is manageable for most people. There is a buy-in for this particular institution here, but if you look at the monthly rates, they're lower than most other places."

"Atria is a warm, welcoming and caring community. The staff, regardless of accountabilities put the resident first and they are treated with respect and dignity. The rooms are very nice and they offer studios and multi-room apartments. The activity director has multiple activities for the residents to participate in throughout each day and she engages everyone with her great personality, The meals are well prepared and offer several selections at each sitting. The dining room staff are simply great. My dad has been an Assisted Living resident for two years and Atria Larsen Place is the right fit and continues to ‘tick off all the boxes’."

"We toured Solstice Senior Living at Groton. Every morning, they have different group exercises and walks. They provide transportation to the grocery store and have a board that lists all the activities of the day. I think that's great. The staff was fantastic. We went into the first studio, and it was very small. We also visited the other studio, and it was perfect."

"Benchmark Senior Living at Hamden is a very lovely place. It meets all my needs, such as nursing care, transportation, and access to food. However, the question is finances and if it fits into my budget. I saw the one-bedroom. It was very nice and certainly suitable for someone who needs a one-bedroom. The staff member who gave the tour was lovely and very accommodating. The physical appearance was wonderful."

"We have had numerous meetings with the director of the facility (Tom) and the staff or "Team" in charge of my mother's "Care". Unfortunately despite the meetings and our voiced complaints the same issues continue. One of our main concerns is my mother is supposed to get her medication at 8:30 AM, very seldom does this happen. She will get her meds as late as 10AM and at times after 11am. Even after pleading with the nurse that our mother is in pain could she please get her the medicine, we were told she needs to wait her turn. The delivery of food has been very inconsistent as well 8:00 Am breakfast not coming until well after 9:00 Am and dinners served at after 7 PM at night. Our mother has to use a bed pan and has been told at times by staff on duty a bed pan is unavailable and that she should just relieve herself in her pants/diaper. She has also been told that she needs to urinate too much and will just have to wait to use the bed pan. This is even after my mother pleaded with staff letting them know that she is taking a lasiix's for the swelling in her extremities, this helps her pass fluids and causes frequent urination. This doesn't mean all the staff there are bad, as there are some very caring individuals, When they those people are not around our mother suffers the consequences. "

"The Village was very nice. My aunt was there for four years and she enjoyed it there. The apartments were very nice, clean, and there was plenty of room. The food was wonderful, and they had a great menu. They had dining rooms for their families. They had everything when it comes to activities. They had bingo, TV, and a movie room. They had pool tables and a library with internet. They had a bar where they could drink every Tuesday night. It was like a hotel. "

"Colebrook Village at Hebron was very nice. We had lunch there, which was just soup and a sandwich. The people were very friendly and very nice. There were many people who were using such devices, so that turned me off a little bit. But the facility was lovely, and the accommodations were lovely. The other thing I like about Colebrook is that they have a lot of people there that I know. So I wouldn't be going into a place without knowing anyone. So that was a plus. It was friendly and very accessible. There are some walking trails, and it is very near to my primary doctor, CVS, and a supermarket, and that's a plus. The person who works there brought me meals from Colebrook, and the food is very, very good."

"We went to The Residence at Ferry Park. We were greeted very graciously, very courteously. They took us into one of the apartments, we sat there, and they offered us coffee and pastries and talked a little bit. We did the tour. It seemed to me to be pretty upscale. We talked to some of the people that worked there, and I think of the four places we visited this was the most upscale one. The significant downside for me was that the apartments did not have a stove and a microwave; they had a very small refrigerator and a small sink. There was no ability for the resident to pop up a coffee in the microwave or warm up some soup on the stove, so all the food that you want, and I guess you have to call down to the cafeteria or restaurant for something. From a dollar point of view it was more expensive for the place, and actually more expensive for a one-bedroom in other places. The cost of this for a large studio was comparable a little bit more in some of the other places for a one-bedroom."
