Assisted Living Reviews for Pacific Gardens Assisted Living & Memory Support

Pacific Gardens seemed more frank about the situation. Some places tell you, we have all these things, and it’s like everything is going to be fine. They realized what we realized: it’s not that easy to get people to do everything. You think also a lot of things, but not everybody is going to take it, and they were more open about that. They were down to earth type of people. It’s not the most shiny place that I visited. It's not the most beautiful but it seems like I got the feeling that what they were saying is what they could do rather than what was available just looks available. It has some activities that I know my mother likes.

Provider Response

Thank you very much Myrna, for taking the time to give us your review. It helps us see Pacific Gardens through the eyes of our visitors, families, and residents. We want to keep Pacific Gardens a home-like, comfortable place for our residents and a warm, welcoming place for our families to visit. Thank you too for acknowledging that we are very open and honest about our community, this is so important to build the trusting relationships we have with our families. Thank you again Myrna!

Pacific Gardens is very nice. It's a little bit more expensive. The place has a lot of activities and amenities. The rooms are not quite as large, but they're very conveniently laid out. They also have memory care. The residents seem happy and content. The staff has a pleasant, helpful attitude. I like the director a lot. I think he is very efficient, kind, and caring.

The people at Pacific Gardens were very friendly and communicated well with the relatives. The cleanliness of the place was average. I was absolutely content with the kind of service they gave my mom. The food quality was average, too.

My dad was at Pacific Gardens for almost 2 ½ years to 3 years, and he was asked to leave. He got very upset with people stopping in their wheelchairs right in the middle of the hallway, and he couldn’t get around them. Somebody ran over his foot with his wheelchair, and he got upset with that. They said he had to leave, so he did. Pacific Gardens is a large facility, probably about 200 residents. There were couples and individuals there. He had a studio room. They had lots of activities; they’d put him in a little van and they’d all go and drive around for a couple of hours and then come back. I found the staff to be very good and very helpful; when they came in, they were always cheerful, and he responded well to them. The food was a little expensive, but it was great. At least once a month, they’ll have a Labor Day lunch for anybody who wants; you just sign up and go have a buffet. They had holiday parties where you can come. Once a month, if there wasn’t a holiday during that month, they would have a prime rib lunch which was $10, and then the buffets were about $20 per person.

Pacific Gardens is nice and small. It’s clean, and the food is great. I would absolutely recommend them. They offer a wide variety of activities, and they also have some memory programs. Also they do outings, shopping, and scenic drives.

I found everything very nice at Pacific Gardens. The cleanliness is good, the friendliness is fine, and it was very professional. My husband is currently in a different community, so I had something to go on when I was looking. I was very impressed with the person who talked with me and took me on the tour. She was very friendly, and I thought the staff was very nice. In terms with how it compares to my husband's place, it is very comparable although it is not as fancy. That is not a concern to me particularly as long as it is clean and the people are well cared for. I think it has a good activity program. Everybody was willing to talk to me, and I felt that it would be a good place for my mother if I were to put her in. In fact, I made a deposit, and they call me every so often when an opening comes up to see if she is ready. We looked at a couple of rooms which were empty or partially filled. They were very nice, and it looks like a standard room. I know what they are like, but she is going to be looking for a studio or one-bedroom. I'm very happy that they were clean, and it has everything that she would need. I ate a salad there, and I thought it was quite good.

Pacific Gardens is a beautiful place. It is very, very well kept, but it is two-story. My husband would have been on the second floor and have to go three hallways to get to his room. That's no good. The place was pleasant. It was very nice. However, when they told me where he would be, I don't want that. My first impression, I thought it was a really lovely place. For assisted living, it would be wonderful, but not for memory care. The staff was very happy to take me through and showed us the dining room and showed what a room that he would be in that he like. Like I said, for assisted living, it is fine. The rooms looked adequate to me. The dining room was beautiful. They had a lot of activities too.

Pacific Gardens looked like a real nice facility. It looked like they had a lot of activities going on for the people. They had a real garden area outside that they could do stuff in. The people that we had contact with were very nice, very professional and very thorough with their explanation. I think their prices were not as inexpensive we thought it was going to be.

Mom is at Pacific Gardens and everybody there is very kind. The staff are very attentive to the residents as much as they can. They seem to care about the residents that they take care of. They are very busy and competent. My mother has a studio apartment there. It is very nice and suitable to her needs. It has a bathroom and a small kitchenette. It has twin bed and a small area where she can have her recliner and table. They supplied some of the furniture and we brought some also. I think its very nice that they provide her with a flat screen TV when I said that my mother wants her television set and they said they will give her one. I have eaten in the dining hall with her when there are occasions and the food is good. It think my mom is healthier and happier there. I will recommend it to others.

My father-in-law is now staying in Pacific Gardens. It is a nice and clean facility. It is rather expensive though. The people are nice and the nurses are really attentive. They have many activities for their residents. They have bingo, game nights, and movie nights. They also have some outings but my father-in-law is not able to go because he has dementia, so he is more of a lockdown situation where he is not able to go around and out by himself. What I don't like about this facility is that they seem to serve a lot of hotdogs and fastfood types of things. Every time we go there for lunch, it seems like my father-in-law is eating a hotdog. I think for the price that they are charging, they shouldn't be serving them hotdogs for lunch. They should be getting salads and more healthy foods. Also their people need to be more attentive as to who is coming in and going out. My father-in-law was outside a couple of times walking around by himself and they didn't even know he left the facility.

My parents are now in an assisted living facility called Pacific Gardens. This facility also specializes in Alzheimer's and memory care. We chose this facility because it was close to our homes. All three of us children are living in Santa Clara, so that was one factor. It also came highly recommended when I went online to see the feedback of other people. Their feedback was really good. I also like their staff there. They are just incredible. My dad had a hard time when he first went in because it was a big change for him, yet they were so patient with him. Everybody has been really kind to my mom and dad. They are also willing to help us take care of our parents. With regard to food though, it took them awhile to get used to it but now they have their favorites. They are pretty happy with the food now and they don't want to miss a meal. They also have a very nice dining room. My parents are in a one-bedroom apartment that has a living area and a bedroom. It is really not a large apartment, but the idea is to get them out and get them involved with other people in the little community there. I don't want them to be stuck in their apartment because that what they would have done if I have moved them in anything bigger. The facility also offers a good array of activities. They have bingos. They have a little movie theater there where they can go and watch a movie. They also take them on scenic drives. On certain days, they take them out to stores. They also take them to their doctor's appointments. The only thing I think they could improve on is having more activities for their residents.

I got to visit Pacific Gardens Assisted Living for my mom. It is just not as elegant as to where she is right now, but I think it is a good place. The people were loving and absolutely accommodating. I also know they have some really good programs there.

My mother moved to assisted living in her early 90s. A friend of hers also moved to PG. The staff worked to help them each stay independent as long as possible. At 95 Mom is now in the Memory Care Unit receiving Hospice Care. Some of the aides caring for her have known her since she moved there. I have been impressed with the consistent concern for the residents' welfare. Of course over the years there have been hiccups, but that's a natural part of life. Staff is helpful alnd responsive to family concerns. They continue to update resources available to residents. They recently added a Wii activity center and transformed a little used lounge to a screening room with monster screen & individual leather seats.

Large, incredibly beautiful building, designed with outside light in mind. The location is also in a good, easily accessible area, with a lot of trees and landscaping. The founder works there and is very involved in overseeing the care and comfort at the place. The rooms are nice"”not sterile, and painted nicely, with comforting details. Really good food"”healthy and prepared by chefs onsite. There are dining rooms, and three meals a day available. There is a spacious outside area for residents to gather and walk around in, and an exercise room staffed by physical therapists. There are also a lot of scheduled activities for residents"”including pet therapy, indoor bowling, supervised walks, and crafts. Computer equipment is also provided for residents to use. There is a memory care unit, with very well trained staff who understand how to interact with the residents there and who provide appropriate activities and care.

My former English teacher lives here, and I've visited her many times. She is 92 and very happy here. In fact, she runs a monthly book group for former students in one of the very pleasant lounge areas here. When you walk in the door, you're greeted by music by Frank Sinatra. The decor is that of a four-star hotel, and the food is tasty and sophisticated. I've eaten in the dining room several times and never felt that I was getting institutional food. The individual units (studios and one-bedrooms) have fridges, kitchen sinks, bathrooms and microwaves. My friend furnished hers with things from her former apartment, but the units come furnished as well. Staff is energetic and the turnover rate is very low. My friend loves the staff and is tutoring a couple of them in literature (every staffer I've met here speaks English well). A van is available to take residents grocery shopping, to the bank, etc. There is a separate dementia facility.
