By the River Assisted Living was great. It would be a lovely community. It's only a six-bed facility. Each resident gets their own room, which we thought was fabulous. The room that they showed us that was empty and available was set up like any nice bedroom in a residential home. The bathroom, although a shared one, was like a residential bathroom, and it was right next to the private bedroom. They have the ability to take the residents out and go out into the community for a drive or a walk and things of that nature. One of the neatest things is that the property is backed right up against the beautiful Sacramento River with a large six-foot fence to protect residents from wandering with gates locked. They have a spacious front lawn and a nice spacious backyard with chickens too. Mom comes from a farm where we raised chickens and agriculture, so it would have been ideal for her. The only drawback is the fence. We felt like Mom could drag a chair to it and scale it. My mom is a wanderer, and she has been known to climb fences to get out and over into another property at home, so we felt that it would be too easy for her to scale it with the help of some aide, like a chair for example. It's a great facility with very nice, attentive staff nevertheless. It's secluded in a location in Red Bluff with a beautiful view of the river. It is just not appropriate for a resident that would have a tendency to wander and have climb attempts.

My dad will move into By the River Assisted Living. It's a beautiful home. There are only five people there, and it's like a house setting. The lady who owns the home, he used to be her boss, so they know each other. I liked it. It was very homely, the staff seemed to be very friendly, and I think it would be a good fit there. It's small, they have meals at the table, and it's all nice and clean. They have a nice big yard and a gardener. It's right on the river, and they have chickens and a dog, so it's just really nice. They do all his medication control, they cook all his meals, they do his housekeeping, and they make him shower a couple of times a week. We saw the staff preparing the food; it looked fresh.
