Assisted Living Communities in La Crosse, WI

"The staff at The Willows is very friendly, nice, and warm. It is neat and clean. It's connected to the rehab center and the nursing home, so if you want to go for a walk, you can take a long walk, visit with people, and go into the activity rooms in either section. My father started out in a two-bedroom because they didn't have a one-bedroom open, but now he is in a one-bedroom. It's very cozy, more homey, and he likes it better than the larger one. They have yoga, shopping trips, they go out to lunch or breakfast sometimes, games, bingo, and movie night, and they have musicians come in. When I went there, they had somebody right in the office when you walk in. They had the cleaning people, the maintenance guy, and residents walking around. The price was much more reasonable. You get a little more personal touch there in such a big place. My father just liked The Willow better. I left the decision up to him, and he picked them. He loved the food, and he said he felt nicer when he walked in the front door. "

"My b rother resides there. If I ever need such service, I would consider relocating there. THe staff turnover is negligible and their level of care, respect and professionalism is outstanding. "

"We visited Hillview Terrace, and the rooms were pretty much what I expected. The staff were helpful. The place was pretty basic, and the dining facilities looked fine. They had outings once or twice a week. "

"Shelby Terrace Assisted Living is a very convenient location for my mom. I would say it's well-appointed with nice accommodation. It's also friendly. I saw the dining area and I saw a sample of what the menu would be. It's limited because it's two meals a day instead of three, but they offer the option for more if you want to pay for it. It all seemed quite reasonable. It was somewhat dated, but it's adequate."

"My sister-in-law was in the assisted living part of Spring Brook. They did a wonderful job of taking care of her. They would assist her with her laundry. She was supposed to do her own laundry, and she'd walk down the hall to the laundry room. If they saw her she was having trouble, they would assist her with it. They had a little library there, which was nice. She liked the common dining room where they had the meals served, and she liked the friends she met there. She wasn't much of a mixer, so she spent an awful lot of her time in her room. She had a bedroom, a living room kitchen combination, and her refrigerator and stove. She never used the stove, just the refrigerator. They had a nice elevator. The staff was good. They take her down to the common area and they had the music down there. She wasn't much of a game player like cards, games, or anything like that, but she liked jigsaw puzzles. She thought the food was good. The facility needed updating, but they had a swimming pool and she liked that. I thought they were expensive, but she didn't have much choice."

"My mother was at Laurel Manor. We chose this because they were very accommodating and cheap. It smelled good. I was impressed with them. People were active and it made me happy to see it. Those were my first impressions. The dining room was open to all the people that live there and the food was homemade. My mother had her own private apartment. She had her own bathroom, little living space and bedroom set. They had coffee and a lot of games every afternoon. They had things she enjoyed. "

"I was able to visit Eagle Crest and it's a very luxurious facility, but my mother did not want to go there because she thought it was too high fashion. It looked very nice and the people that we met were very accommodating. I would have no complaints about placing her there. "

"Pleasant Valley Seniors was nice. We liked that, but my mom thought it was just too far away from the rest of the family. They've got very friendly staff. We sat and visited with them and talked with them for quite a while. They were updating all the rooms, so it was very nice. She would have been on the second level, and there wasn't much available for her to be able to go up and down. The elevator space was really small. There needs to be a little bit more updating, but as far as the rooms, they seemed nice. It's just that my mom didn't want to be that far out of town."

"I went to Prairie Home, and I would have given it a 5. The tour was excellent, but it was too far from me. I liked the staff, it was all on ground level, which I liked. It was smaller, the activities were good, and the meals were fine. If they were closer, my mother would have been there in a heartbeat. The staff was wonderful, very accommodating, and very caring."

"I happened to visit Caledonia Care and Rehab Buck, once my co-worker asked me to accompany him as he wanted to see his Mother in law. This was my first visit to any such facility and I had fairly high standards in my mind. Once we entered the facility, we did not find any parking place. It took us some time to park the car at some distance away and then enter the facility. Staff was not present at the reception so we had no one to guide us to her room. We managed to find the room and met the old lady. She was very unhappy about the behavior of the staff and food standard. She wanted to quit this facility as soon as possible. We found the corridors untidy and the building in a miserable condition. Mean while, the waitress had brought her lunch. The quality of food was low and utensils were not clean too. The residents were quite a few in numbers and looked gloomy. I did not find any life or home like environment here. The nursing staff was not present and we found no arrangements to handle the patient. My co-worker promised the lady to find some alternate arrangements for her. I was not impressed with the facility and would not recommend for loved ones. "

"Vernon Acres Senior Living was very clean and brand new. The staff was very helpful. There were call buttons in every room plus they'll have a necklace. It's very up-to-date and modern. They have three floors. It can be family-oriented, so the husband and wife can be there as well. They have a place for visitors to stay, and they would have their own room if it's available. We liked it. The outdoor is very open and spacious and you can see the community around you and go to the other side (the rolling farmlands), which my mom liked. It's new and I'm sure they'll be adding more flowers and all that stuff once the weather is decent. The staff is very friendly."

"Creamery Creek Senior Living is a wonderful place. It's brand new and my mother has full care. She does not have to do anything. Her apartment is cleaned, she gets all meals, and her laundry is washed. She's very happy there. They have people who check on her. It's one big building and she has her own separate little apartment. They always have entertainment and they sometimes bring schoolchildren in. They have a bus that takes them to different places. They always have activities going for them like exercise classes, and they have a beauty shop. The staff is wonderful. She likes the food, she never complains about it, and they have a good variety. We're very pleased with the place."

"Marycrest was really, really nice. I like it for my husband. They showed us apartments, which were really nice. Also they had a place, if you were able to, to work out and they feed you lunch. I thought the rooms were really nice, but the only thing I didn't like was that AC and heat was from a window. Overall, I like Marycrest because if you got really bad, they would transfer you. "
