"Almond House was a god-send for our mother. She left the nursing home where she was tied to a chair in the day room and made a fairly seamless transition to Almond House.(half the price of the nursing home, too) The professional nursing care was excellent. Daily care givers in the facility were kind and interacted with our mother. She actually improved her outlook in life over the course of time even though her dementia continued its deadly march. This is a great place."

"My mother has been at the Hallett Cottages for a year and four months. It's a small place with 16 rooms. Right now, it's just ladies that live there. The care is wonderful. If anything, they are a little understaffed but manage to do the job. They prepare breakfast for the ladies every morning, then do all the clean up, the laundry, and the dishes. It's like living at home, but these ladies have somebody taking care of them. Meals are brought in for lunch and supper from Heartwood where my father lives because it's only four blocks away. They take very good care of them. She is in the last stage of Alzheimer's, so she is in a Broda chair. All of her care is taken care of, like getting her in and out of bed using a lift system. They bathe her, take her to the toilet, and have made it possible for her to end her life at that facility, which is unusual for a memory care unit. Usually, they would transfer them to a nursing home by this point, but they are doing the care there for her. They take very good care of her, and the nursing staff is good. We've done some rearranging of her medication, and they've been very easy to work with. Also, because it's all ladies, she feels comfortable. "

"My mom moved into Heartwood. It's an excellent facility located in the Brainerd Lakes area. The facility is currently adding more spaces for residents. It's clean. Everyone there is courteous, and they treat their clients very well. They are kind, considerate, and very respectful to all of their residents. My mom has a shared room. They also have options for private rooms. They have daily activities. They take the residents out on bus tours. It's a fenced-in area. The dining room is a smaller one, but it's all got flowers and chairs. It's very comfortable. They have excellent food, not like hospital food. It's very nutritious. Everyone that I was eating with enjoyed it, and they ate very well. The price is comparable with every facility that does memory care."

"We toured Golden Horizons of Crosslake. This was very spacious, newer, and clean. The rooms were big. The private rooms were nice. The size was good. They had lots of activities that they scheduled and planned. It was very welcoming, and we liked that one. The staff was very knowledgeable, friendly, and gave lots of information. Everything was very up-to-date and modern. They had a studio that was probably a little over 300 square feet, then the bigger room was over 400 square feet, a private bathroom, a walk-in shower, and everything was wheelchair accessible."

"My mother-in-law really likes Whitefish at the Lakes Senior Living. It's a newer facility. It's very clean and very friendly. What I really liked about it was that we had the sign in on two different things, and they also took our temperature because of COVID. We had to sign in and sign out, and I like that. My mom had been in a facility for years, and they weren't that cautious like that. When you're kind of a vulnerable adult, I think it's a good policy. From what I saw, they are very friendly. She likes the food. She's really happy there, so it's been really good. My mother-in-law lives very independently. She doesn't need help taking meds or anything. She gets one meal a day. She goes down to the dining room for a mid-day meal. It's a nice big meal. They check on her. She has a call button that she has to push every morning, so that they know she's up; otherwise, someone comes and checks on her. I only met one staff, and she was very friendly. It's a beautiful place. My mother-in-law talked about activities. They had Bible study. Her room is right across the hall from an exercise room. She can go in and they do group activities and those kinds of things. They play cards."

"One of the reasons we chose Lakewood Manor in Staples for my parents was the location. That's where they wanted to be, as far as in the Staples area. The other thing was that the apartment and the building itself are nice as well as the staff. They just seem caring and concerned, very polite, and want to be there to help out as much as they can. My parents have been in their assisted living since the middle of August. Their apartment is really beautiful. As far as the food, I haven't tried it there myself but in talking with my parents, they seem to be just fine with it. They go down and enjoy the meals so going off with what they're saying, it seems like it's fine. It's a calm place, and it's clean with modern furnishings. My parents' apartment is very spacious and nice. The dining room area is nice and the best word that comes to mind would be cafe setup. They have tables and booths that you could sit in. You can invite some of your friends over or if you're not feeling very sociable, you can get your meal and bring it back to your apartment and just sit down and have it there. I am not sure about all of the activities that they have but I have not heard any complaints from my parents. My dad's quiet and stays by himself while my mom's more of going out and wanting to play cards with somebody. Either way, it seems like they're both enjoying whatever activities are going on."

"My grandmother has been in Good Sam Society Pine River for over a decade now. Frequent visits to see her over the past 10+ years provide me with many opinions regarding this facility. Overall, Good Sam provides a home feeling as best can be accomplished in such a facility. The staff appears to be friendly and helpful, but in my opinion should practice being more observant and responsive to residents needs. On several occasions, my grandmother has stopped eating and began a physical decline. Thankfully my mother visits my grandmother 3 - 4 times a week and has literally saved my grandmothers life on a recent visit. It seems the staff at Good Sam tends to ignore signs and symptoms of health issues causing residents to decline. My grandmother has been into the emergency room at the hospital - literally near death with an undetectable pulse - due to Good Sams neglect to call in a physician when my grandmother failed to get out of bed for two days and had failing vital signs. There have been several other occasions where my grandmother stops eating and mostly just sleeps. Again, my mother notices the change in behavior and requests a doctor appointment - and each time this happens, my grandmother is diagnosed with a urinary track infection. In my opinion, this facility would be a scary place to send a loved one if you weren't able to check in on his or her health on nearly a daily basis, because the staff at Good Sam will likely not respond to physical signs of residents needing medical care. "

"Highland Senior Living's assisted living is very nice, with very friendly people. It had the room and everything my dad and his wife needed, so it was good. The living room and the kitchen were a little smaller than they wanted, though. I think at that time, they only had a one-bedroom apartment to show. The staff members helped us with the tour, and they were very friendly. They also had a courtyard where the residents could go outside and have room to move around. Inside, they had a nice dining room and an activity room. They even have this nice thing where if somebody came from far away to visit them, they could rent an apartment there for two or three days. They don't have to be just family, they could be good friends, too. The place is a small so my parents wouldn't have to walk that far. I don't think they had any closed-in garages, though."

"I went to see Bridgeway Estates in Little Falls and toured for assisted living. Usually, when you walk in the door, the people who are working at the place are right there. At this place, there's none. I went there three times, and all those times, one of the residents had to open the door for me to get in the building since it was locked. To get to the staff's office, you have to walk past the lunch room all the way down two hallways and it's at the very end of that hallway. I just didn't care for that. I feel like anybody could get in there that shouldn't get in there because the residents are opening the door for these people. The first time I was there, I went to the door and looked to see if there was a button to push, then a resident came and opened the door for me. After that, I just kind of walked around until I found a staff member. The second time, I knew where the main office was, so I walked down two hallways, and then at the very end was the office for the staff, the ones that you talk to. Another thing is that they're very hard to get back to. You call and leave a message, and it takes a while for them to get back to you. The place is very small, and their activity area is right there when you walk in the door. The person who gave the tour did not show me an activity room, but when I asked where they all meet, she said they gather at the area right inside the door that the residents let me in. There's a couch, chairs, and a TV in there. There's also a bench where the residents are sitting by the door. There's not much area, I don't even know where they would do any kind of activities. We went into a room; it was a second-floor one that was open, and it was very nice. It has big windows that look out into the woods, and there was enough space for both my dad and his wife to go in the apartment."

"Harmony House facility had a very personable and home feeling atmosphere. I think the place was very clean and well kept. The place looked very new and nice and it quite quiet. I think that is important for people who are not living on their own. They do not want to be bothered or disturbed by others. The staff there was very nice and polite. They all seemed to care about their jobs and the people living there. I also noticed many of the people living there looked happy and content with the atmosphere and the workers. I think it was a very nice place and if I ever needed to come across a point where I would possibly have to put someone in my family in assisted living, Harmony House would be one of my first choices.
