"I like Rivertown Ridge. It's newer. It's four years old. The people are very friendly. We went through independent living to their memory care. They were very helpful. People were coming up and introducing themselves. They have a large area for walking, a tennis court, and a lovely outdoor pool. It's just a nice feeling. In terms of cleanliness, it's very clean and very well taken care of."

"I toured the Care Cardinal - Macatawa. It's assisted living and the staff was very helpful, everything seemed very acceptable, and the location was nice and not too far away from a local hospital. Everything's cleaned well but the rooms were a bit on the small side. I don't know if it's the same thing with the others because that was the first place I visited."

"I looked at the assisted living in Appledorn Assisted Living Center North. I like that they really make an effort to get everyone involved in their daily activities. I like that you don't have to buy into the place. It's just per month, and I like that there are many variable levels of care. You don't get one level of care for one fee. You only pay for what you need, so you pay for level 2 or you pay for level 15. They also have a small living room and a dining room."

"Bluff Lake Specialized Care is a house and it's very clean, very open, and there's no odor. They only take six residents, and they take Medicaid waivers. We talked with the owner and two of the staff members. We saw them working with one of the residents and they were talking to them beautifully. It had a very comfortable warm feeling. They take them twice a week to the Senior Center for activities. We saw a couple of private, single rooms."

"I am a hyperactive 81 year old man. I crave lots of activities. The professional staff offer a ton of heathy and fun activities. For both the mind and body.They work as a team. If one person can’t help you they will find someone who can. I particularly enjoy the morning sit and stretch. And the mind games that follow are a real variety from horse racing to memory challenges."

"My parents moved to Laurel Oaks of South Haven and they're doing well there. It is new, so the amenities on the site are new. It's only about two years old. They have an administrative nurse who is there at least five days a week, if not more. The staff is friendly. They have both assisted living and memory care. They have field trips, as well as activities onsite. They also have a salon onsite for them to have their hair done, and three meals a day. It's also in close proximity to one of their children, so that works out really well. They started out in assisted living, but it became obvious they needed more, so they're now in memory care. What needs to be improved is some of the communication back and forth with the administrative staff when you want an answer or you call. I realize they're busy. They have a lot of patients. One of the things that we had to work with the staff on was we didn't want phone calls for every little thing, like if there was a stomachache. They're elderly and they tend to have a lot of hallucinations. It's probably one of the more expensive ones, but we have two parents in memory care, so that adds to the cost considerably, and we know that."

"Lighthouse Assisted Living was small but very homey. It gave you a feeling of almost being in a home rather than an institution. They may only have six or seven residents, I think. The place was very clean, and the owner who showed me around was very informative. In fact, she had worked for a senior-living facility for eighteen years, so she's very experienced. The other staff member was very pleasant too. The menu looked very nice, and they said that it was just like a regular kitchen in your home. It's not a huge kitchen, though, since they didn't have that many residents. They had a piano, a table that was set up with puzzles, a nice patio in the back with chairs, a grilling area, and a laundry facility."

"My father-in-law was in Sheldon Meadows Assisted Living. He started in the assisted living part and then transferred to the memory care unit. He was in the memory care unit the longest. It was excellent. Everyone that worked there was just awesome. They're very good. It's clean. Everybody's room had plenty of space. It's as good as living in their own home. It was really good. The food was good, too. They had games that they get the residents involved in, just simple things like tossing a ball across the table and they did crafts on holidays and that kind of thing. Value for money was excellent."
