Benefits and Drawbacks of Assisted Living in Lancaster

  • The climate in Lancaster is mild and comfortable year-round, with warm summers and winters that are cooler but not very cold. The city sees just 31.5 days of precipitation and less than an inch of snowfall per year. Seniors who enjoy outdoor recreation will find they can pursue their favorite activities whatever the season.
  • California’s sales taxes are some of the highest in the U.S., and the state has high-income taxes, too. However, Social Security retirement benefits are exempt from income taxes, meaning low-income seniors pay very little in taxes.
  • The cost of living in Lancaster is 12.7% higher than the national average but lower than many other parts of California. Seniors who want the perks of living in a bustling, attractive state with a pleasant climate may find Lancaster appealing because of its proximity to cities such as Los Angeles, and its comparatively low cost of living.
  • Violent crime rates in Lancaster are above the national average, but property crime rates are in line with the average. Seniors who reside in assisted living communities should not worry about safety issues because facilities are staffed, secured and have cameras on-site to protect the property and residents.
  • The air quality in Lancaster is below average due to the relatively built-up nature of the city. This means seniors who have respiratory conditions may find living in the city center aggravates their conditions.
  • Lancaster is a part of Los Angeles County, which is a member of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities. Member counties have committed to providing quality products and services to older adults and implementing programs to improve the quality of life for seniors in their areas.
