"This review is based on my visit to HealthGuard ADHC as I was looking for placement for a close relative: I visited this center in February 2015. I met "I" who introduced herself as a staff RN. This RN walked us through the facility, talking most of the time. It felt more like a show & tell sales pitch to me rather than being attentive and perceptive to questions that I might have for her and about the center. After the tour, I had sat down with a social worker to discuss details of care (in a office room because there was no other meeting place suitable for private conversation) when our mtg was unprofessionally interrupted (barged in would be more accurate) by RN "I" to say that I had exhausted her time and that of her staff unless I was an enrolled participating family member (she spoke with authority as if she was part of management/ownership). As we were walking out of this office door, someone had tried to call the social worker, no doubt to expedite our meeting to come to a close. This clearly communicated that they are not focused client needs nor fostering good relationships with potential family members. Simply put, those interactions translated to me that they were focused on the money making aspect of my visit. In addition, the outdoor patio is an extension of the black asphalt parking lot that's filled with their smoking participants. It's basically a smokers area with patio tables and chairs. Unfortunately with no closed off doors nor wall for that fact (I think it was one of those pull down garage walls), the center allows second hand smoke to infiltrate the adjacent indoor recreational room. This explained the immediate smell of cigarette smoke when I had walked into this center. I'm sorry but I can not endorse a Health center that doesn't advocate for the health of those who have no choice but to take in the second hand smoke (especially for those who are non-smokers and trying to enjoy the recreational activities). Perhaps your visit experience would be different but my experience was not positive. I gave one star because the social worker was nice, professional and attentive to our needs. "

"I am pleased to recommend RIO's Adult Daycare. From the first contact I had with their social worker to the excellent treatment of my mother with advanced Alzheimer's, I have been very pleased with our experience. Every member of the staff is friendly and welcoming. Are you a stressed caregiver? Get some much-needed time to take care of your needs. Your loved one will be better for it, too. Give them a call; you'll be glad you did. "

"My mother requested to go to the center earlier than her regular schedule (9am). Instead, the driver picked her up early, drove her around town while picking up others and her arrival time to the center was still 9am. It took around half an hour longer than before to get there. After couple days being baking in the car for the whole hour while it takes around 10 minutes (yahoo map) from her house to the center she got sick mentally and physically and had to go the doctor office. She has been very upset and could not sleep the whole night the day the incident happened. The nurse (responsible in arranging the trips) explained she misunderstood that my mother would like to be in the car early? She confronted my mother in the manager office in the rude, disrespectful way that my mother was wrong to tell her a cheating person. The driver confirmed he was asked to do it by somebody from the center, it was not convenient way but it was not his own decision. The fact says it all. The center is not somebody's charity; it was paid by the government with the purpose to maintain the healthy living style for seniors not to abuse them or make them sick. Without the seniors, they all won't have those jobs. The seniors have their children, grandchildren and relatives, friends who care for them. We all should have our voices to protect our grandparents and for a better tomorrow for them, for us. Welcome all your comments. "

"I looked into this center for my mother and thought that it was just absolutely terrible. The way they treated their patients was just so unbelievable, seriously, this is the last place I would consider for anyone to put an elderly person. "

"My Mom has alzheimer's and lives with me. Working full time and making sure she was cared for was stressful. In home care, did not work. She did not like anyone coming to our home and being here all day. I was at a very low point not knowning what to do, when I was referred to Irvine Adult Day Health Services. Jill Upton, gave me a tour, and I thought I would try it for mom. She loved it from day 1, and goes daily. She is well taken care of, exercises, has great meals and great activities, most of all FRIENDS! I am so very grateful this plan worked! "
