Vitas hospice is trash. There are a few good staff that I have been lucky to come into contact with but the majority of the nurses are lazy and borderline incompetent. I guess that’s what you get when you’re in the business of dying. There have been multiple situations in which the nurses ask stupid questions or don’t ask clarifying questions at all to figure out how to best serve the client. In addition to the fact that much of the staff is not anticipatory or forthcoming in offering supplies or solutions for health and comfort. Very unfortunate that most of these nurses are only concerned with punching the clock than doing their job and caring for people in their most vulnerable time of need. I suppose if they were high quality nurses they would be working in a hospital trying to keep people alive rather than lazily and half-heartedly ushering them into death. Vitas has left my family grasping for help, anxious and panicked by the lack of support, compassion and expedient aid.

“Thanks to everyone at VITAS for the hospice care provided to my mother. As soon as VITAS was brought in everything was easier. Everyone who represents VITAS was outstanding compassionate caregivers who's only concern was the comfort and care of mom. Specfically Racheal, Tracy, Connie, Linda, and Barb. Even the gentlemen who delivered the hospital bed and oxygen, who took the time and patience to explain everything in detail after offloading the equipment in the heat and humidity. Everyone should understand the value of hospice as well as your entire organization. Sorry if I missed a name but I want you all to know how much I appreciate your help. I don't know how we would have done this without you. God Bless and thanks again. Paul Russell”

They were kind enough to my father. However several times they were not on my side. Towards the end I feel like they did not share all the information with me. Just kept saying he is declining. The Chaplin came to visit, I was at the house and when she left she called the social worker because my father looked so bad. Never even spoke to me! The social worker showed up with not so much as a phone call knowing I had dogs in the house. Chaplin called to say sorry. Too little to late the confidence is broken and the respect is gone. Following week the hospice nurse shared info I confided in her with and she shared with the Chaplin immediately knowing what had happened. They can continue to care for my fathers he is so close to the end. Their words over a month ago, but after he is gone they will be gone too!

My grandmother was with Vitas. They were very supportive and helpful. They were very quick to respond to any needs we had.
