"I had help that came from Southeastern Home Health Care. They would come in and check my vital signs. They would talk to me, if I had concerns or was upset about something. They would check on me, when I had to go to the hospital. They provided everything that they were supposed to. They gave assessments on how you are functioning. If you needed something in between visits, you just call, and they would be here either within minutes, or if they were tied up with another patient, as soon as they were through with them. They were wonderful, supportive and very caring. They were really great and I couldn't say anything bad about them. I was very satisfied with them. "

"We hired Care Advantage - Mechanicsville for my dad. Dad likes the caregiver, she's really sweet, really kind to my dad, and does exactly what we ask her. She comes a few days a week and does light housework, makes him breakfast and lunch, and hangs out with him."

"I feel lucky to have found these folks. They were very nice and professional from day one. Always available to chat if needed. Caregiver is always on time and helps with personal care as well as companionship. Caregiver is certified but is also continuing education in this field and feels like family. I expect to continue with Senior Helpers as long as necessary."

"We got SYNERGY HomeCare of Richmond agency for my mother-in-law, and it's working out very well. They have a companion that comes in and does light housekeeping and food preparation. If they needed it, they would also do some ADLs. They will transport her to the grocery store or on short errands there in town. They just give her some companionship, and my mother-in-law enjoys sitting and talking to someone. We've only had them for two weeks, but so far, it's been great. I have not met the caregiver myself, but my mother-in-law said that she's very caring and knowledgeable with what she asks her to do. She feels like she's very trustworthy. They were flexible with our needs. They work hard to try to match a personality that fits the client."

"After my Mother's stroke and rehab, we needed to arrange for help with her personal care. JP, the Client Services Manager at Care Advantage, Inc., got right on it and coordinated with our local CA provider to get us signed up right away. The next morning, Mom had her introductory meeting with an intake RN and by the afternoon, Mom's new caregiver began providing services. JP went above and beyond to make things happen without delay. A real blessing. Thank you, JP. You ROCK!"

"They were flexible and reasonable to deal with. They were willing to come in during crisis situations with little notice and their people were willing to stay later than assigned when necessary. Most seemed to genuinely care. Their prices were very reasonable. "

I am John Bonner, proud owner of Homewatch CareGivers of Richmond. RVA has been home to me for just about my entire life as my family moved here from New Jersey at an early age. I could not be happier with the decision my parents made decades ago to come to RVA. I have truly enjoyed growing up here, raising my family here, and I am very excited to see what my growing hometown will look like in the next decade. I came into this business not only as an owner, but as a client. After my father suffered a stroke, my family had to face the exceedingly difficult decisions that needed to be made regarding aging and the care for both of my parents. They each had vastly different needs and sorting through all the information that was available was initially very overwhelming. We understand the emotional toll this takes on a family and we further understand the difficult task of choosing care for the people you love. My personal experience, and that of our staff, gives a unique understanding and perspective in how to provide the best possible care to our clients and their families. Our mission every day is to promote, preserve, and restore health. We use this as a daily reminder to help assist our clients live as much of an independent lifestyle as they possibly can. Please consider Homewatch CareGivers of Richmond if you want to work with a team of professionals who will foster an environment where your loved one can remain in their own home with independence, dignity, and safety. Our guiding principal is to provide our clients with the kind of service that we would want for our own families. We understand how it feels to bring someone into your home when there is a need for professional care, and we make every effort to match our clients with the right caregiver. We strive to give our caregivers a great place to work, where they feel valued and part of our extended family. By doing so, we know our caregivers will extend those feelings to our clients. We specialize in the following types of care: 24-hour care – short or long term care Alzheimer’s care for those suffering from dementia and related illnesses Hospice support for those needing end of life care Chronic care for the disabled and those with diseases and chronic conditions Rehabilitative care for those who are recovering from an injury or illness Thank you for taking the time to read a bit about ‘our story’ and we hope to be the organization of choice with you or a loved ones home care needs in the future. - John

" I was disappointed in the level of service provided by BrightStar, and I would definitely not recommend this company, especially if your loved one has dementia. Because my mother could not remember what tasks she needed help with, she got very little assistance. I had provided a list of tasks, including 3 times a week bathing, throwing out old food, checking that she had taken her medications, making sure she locked her door, was wearing her medical alert necklace, light housekeeping, etc., but this list was not given to the various aides that showed up. (During this period when BrightStar was coming six days a week, a cleaning company refused to clean her bathrooms because of smeared feces on the floors.) My mother would dismiss the aides after half an hour, saying she “couldn't think of a thing for them to do.” (This was not adequately communicated to me. I only found out when I installed nanny cams in the home.) The company went through a series of bookkeepers, and as soon as one had learned the ropes, she was gone, only to be replaced by someone who had to learn the process for submitting invoices and logs to the insurance company for reimbursement. We chose this company because they would agree to a 2 hour minimum – my mother's preference – instead of the standard 3 or 4 hour minimum other companies require, but I regret the choice. After my mother moved to assisted living, the company without authorization debited money from my mother’s bank account to pay for past services that I had hesitated to pay without receiving the logs for those dates. (The insurance company won’t reimburse without receiving the daily logs.) I had requested the daily logs for those invoices, and the company never sent them to me. Imagine my surprise when I notice over $800 taken from the account without either my knowledge or consent! "

"We're with Options For Senior America. It's just fantastic for my wife. We're fine with it. The caregivers are great, very kind, and anticipate things for my wife that I don't even anticipate, and she just loves them. She just loves all the people and goes to the daycare during the day. She loves it so much that she calls it "going to work." In her mind, she's helping others, and to me that's the most important thing. They offer in-home care, have a 24-hour facility if you need it, and cater to all types of situations. My wife has frontotemporal dementia, which is a really rare form of dementia. It's not even dementia in the classic clinical terms, but they're really good with her, and she just loves them, and she just looks forward to it every day, and I'm glad for that. I'm happy with them, and the price is pretty good. They're reasonable. "
