My mother had terminal cancer recently and when we decided to go with Heartland Hospice for her care. I'm very grateful to Heartland and especially our nurse, Tina who really cared, made us feel at ease and helped us during this difficult time. Tina came to us in the hospital at 7-8PM at night, so we could fill out the necessary paperwork so that my mom could leave and go home. She was very relieved to find out that she did not have to stay another night at the hospital. We were able to set up my mom at home and we received the support, pain meds, equipment, etc. that we needed. Tina was there 9 days later as my mom's condition worsened and stayed til well after she passed. We also had a chaplin, nurses assistant and social worker come to see us during that time. I very grateful for their support as well. I'd recommend Heartland to anyone that has to make the difficult choice for hospice care for their loved one. I'd say the only issue I had was with their being listed as having "inpatient care". I found out that they no longer have inpatient care in Augusta. I was told that when University Hospital bought out Trinity, the inpatient agreement they had with Heartland did not continue. . The closest inpatient facility was in Thompson GA.

MY siblings and I interviewed Heartland and thought they would be an agency that cared and could help us in our situation. Unfortunately this was not the case, The patient admittedly was difficult but they assured us they could help. Heartland assigned a CNA who did not understand or mesh with patient and we can understand that , however they made no effort to get another CNA and simply stopped coming with no warning leaving us in a difficult position. This company is very unprofessional and should not be trusted to provide care to your loved one !

I don’t like Heartland Home Care and Hospice. They offered services for my relatives when he was still alive. I would not recommend them at all. They had a nurse who came in to see if my relative is eligible to go into hospice. They would send a nurse out once a week, and they would send somebody else two or three times a week, like a nursing assistant to check him. So I assumed that I was getting better care for him. They offer physical therapy, but they felt like he was losing ground, and they moved him to a far end of the building. The staff lacks communication and they weren't keeping me up to date.

I can only hope that when/if I am ever in the need of hospice care that there is one in my area as good as Heartland Hospice. The facitlity is clean, comfortable with a very homey feeling. The best part though are the people working there. They took such wonderful care of my mother before she needed to even stay there. Her nurse came to her home so they could get to know each other before such intimate care was needed so that she and my father would be comfortable. When I was there in my mother's final days the staff were very caring and also answered any questions I had. I applaud them all, they are truly angels!
