I was sent to Sunshine gardens after an 8-day stay at the hospital from breaking my femur. I was supposed to be there for 2 weeks for rehab I spent approximately 16 hours there just overnight which was the most horrific night of my life. I was picked up at the hospital taken in a wheelchair to a room and just left. Then I had some company and visited with them out in the foyer and then went back to my room somebody brought me a cup of water and my friend and I went to look for somebody that might be able to fill my to-go cup with ice and water and stumbled upon they were having dinner. The food was supposed to be a hot turkey sandwich which was cold gravy and really not eatable but I will say that I am a picky eater. So I had no dinner then I was in a room with a Alzheimer patient who talked to herself and kept saying call the police and turned all the lights on all night long so no sleep for me. I did ask the nurse about 2:00 a.m. how long that lady had been here and the nurse said to me "lady it is none of your business". I had pushed the call button and in 30 minutes nobody ever came so I got my wheelchair and searched somebody out, there were three people at the medical desk. I believe I told them I was leaving in the morning and the one lady told me that they were a five-star operation and I should give them a chance. The next morning I called and arranged it get a wheelchair ramp built my daughter to come and pick me up and I was out of there and home by 10:20 and when my daughter came to pick me up she wheeled me out and we never saw a person say goodbye what was the problem or anything. The worst experience of my life. My advice is if you have a loved one do not, repeat do not put them at Sunshine gardens that is an oxymoron .......

Mother admitted after long stay in hospital with kidney/liver failure from cardiac event and high blood sugars. Had also fallen and had a two-bone fractured ankle and was wheelchair bound. Admitted with orders for cardiac/diabetic diet. Was high risk for fall with severe injury if she fell and high risk of skin breakdown. Put in corner room with no WORKING call light. When she had to go to the bathroom, there was no way for her to let anyone know. One nurse told me that she was in diapers and could go to the bathroom in her diaper and they would change her later. Admitted with known diabetes with high blood sugars. Given cookie with dinner, cake with dinner following night, and pancakes with syrup for breakfast. Blood sugar rose to 579!!!! Cardiac diet ordered but given corn dogs for dinner??? No nutrition at all let alone NOT on a cardiac or diabetic diet. HORRIBLE PLACE!

I took a fall in my home, broke my hip, had surgery and went to Sunshine Gardens for rehab. Sunshine Gardens has an outstanding physical therapy team that helped me get strong again so I can return to my home.

SHFI (Sunshine Health Facilities Inc.) is nestled on the original campus of Spokane University among beautiful ancient pines. This is a two generation family owned multifaceted care facility with an outstanding ethic of excellent care. Owners emphasize and maintain an atmosphere of truth family loving concern. As a local pastor I have visited many residents over the past seven years who live at Sunshine Gardens, enter for short stay rehabilitation after surgery or suffer from limited mental function. In every case I find that the individual being cared for reports being treated like a loved family member by employees and management alike. I visit the facility twice a week. Over the past seven years I have always seen a clean facility, caring staff and a fresh smelling environment. This is the only facility in Spokane I recommend to parishioners, friends, relatives or advise seekers.

My mother was a resident at Sunshine Gardens before she succumbed to Alzheimer's. I thanked the staff for the care she received and given this opportunity I would like once again to say thank you. Whenever I came to visit I was greeted by a friendly, professional staff and when I left I was comforted by the fact that my mother was receiving the best care possible. Having a loved one in a nursing home is not unlike having a child in day care in that one must trust the facility for the care they provide. During the time mom was a resident I always felt my trust was well placed. Dean L.

While serving as an ombudsman I was in weekly contact with Sunshine Gardens for approximately one year. Physically the home is well laid out & constructed, clean and well maintained. The staff is well trained and each that I encountered was very helpful and cooperative. The residents were well cared for in a loving manner. I told my wife if I ever go to a nursing home I will go to Sunshine Gardens.
