I moved into Brookdale Olympia East 2 months ago. We have a lot of activities like exercises, games, and movies. My room is very comfortable. We have a lot of options for food. Some things are better than others, but generally, it's good food and fairly healthy. The staff is very helpful, but I think they need to add staff and increase their training.

Brookdale Olympia East was the nicest facility. Everything was updated, and it was clean. The people were very friendly. Jordan, the gentleman that gave us the tour and took us through everything was really good. He was very friendly and he wasn't trying to force anything. He was just a nice guy and we enjoyed our time with him. Theirs was probably the best rate of the other 3 properties that we saw. They invited us there for lunch, and the food was good. The choices were good. Their restaurant was open from 7 AM to 7 PM. Everything was on the menu during the whole day. The only problem I had was that there was only one elevator for all the floors, and the elevator was a little small.

Brookdale Olympia East was high on my list. I liked the people and it was convenient to my medical needs. The building is a bit old and parts of it don't look very secure, but I really liked the place otherwise. It's very convenient location wise. It looked like the restaurant was good. The environment was good. I just wish they had air-conditioning. Otherwise, I found it favorable. The staff was great. There was one room on the first floor that had a sliding door in the back, and it was not secure at all. The building generally is a bit on the shabby side, but not dirty nor bad. You can't rebuild the building, but it was marginal, and without air-conditioning (which I have at home, and I was very thankful for it last summer), and that makes me nervous.

I went to Brookdale Olympia East independent living side, although they also have assisted living. I was very impressed with it. It was very welcoming, very clean, large, and spacious. I was immediately helped when I went in, "What are you here for? Who do you want to see?" that kind of thing. The staff took me around and showed me all that we could see. She showed me a couple of the rooms. I did not get to eat because I went there late, but they have a dining room that's open for 12 hours and you can go in at any time and get any of your three meals. I like the fact that the assisted living and the independent living rooms are qualified for all of them. If I had to become assisted living, I wouldn't have to move. I would stay right there. It is very clean and they did their best to make it homey and appealing. The staff was very willing to assist me. She answered all of my questions. She showed me the entire layout and took me to see a couple of the rooms. She showed me a one-bedroom and a corner studio, which was quite spacious, but not for me. They had a full kitchen, although the stove was small, and I guess people don't do a lot of cooking when they get my age. They were doing bingo at the time. The staff also showed me other activity rooms and gave me a list of all the activities that they have weekly. They'll take me to my doctors and things like that. They had trips like shopping trips or going to movies and they had movies every night. There are a lot of things. It is a little expensive, but it's right at the edge of what I can afford.

We chose Brookdale for our Mom and although they use all those "comfort words" to tout their facility, It was none of that. I spent many days just staying there with Mom and observing staff interaction and contact hoping I would feel reassured she would soon get the care, assistance and attention she needed. Our expectations were high because the price was high. Yet her few months stay at Brookdale was never more than minimally sufficient. My siblings had similar observations over the course of her stay, and we coordinated to make sure one of us saw her weekly. That was often hard because we all live hours 2-3 away from her. There was no peace of mind while Mom was there. Many components of her service plan were not provided consistently, some not at all. I came to see her on "laundry and housekeeping day." I waited until evening to observe staff attention and she was given her medications but no one came to provide these necessary services. I washed 3 loads of clothing, including her soiled bedding vacuumed and emptied garbage as well. Mom was not familiarized to the environment and routine of the community and rarely escorted to the dining room. Maybe it was best. Diners were only allowed one person per table, and looked forlorn sitting close, yet far from other residents. Mom was not familiarized or prompted with the menu or how to order food from her room. It was obvious when my siblings and I showed up that the "personalized service and clinical guidelines to meet daily needs with the right care at the right time, delivered by the right people" failed my Mom. She spent most days in her room sleeping. Food and medication was delivered by techs and staff that was mostly new and stretched thin. Added to the anxiety was the total non-transparency of Brookdale's billing. Often inquiries regarding Assessment Plans and Summary were not answered or calls returned. This particular Brookdale has a very antiquated message system. No voicemail for key people. You leave a message with the front desk person. Questions regarding Assessment Plan, Summary and costs often get no response, Calling the corporate office is just as bad.

I was fairly satisfied with Brookdale Olympia East. I would say it's hard for me to say impressed because of the whole circumstances, but I was pretty satisfied. If I needed to, I would feel comfortable having my mother there. I believe it was a studio/one bedroom that we went to have a look at. It is fairly decent, and about the same size as the apartment building that she has now. I believe they showed us some of the common places, like where she would be doing any kind of activity or eating (if she wasn't eating in her room). They had an exercise area. The caring staff was pretty good and very understanding about everything. They're doing a very good job with all the other patients (not like I heard anybody screaming or anything like that). There were some walking paths and benches outside.

We looked at Brookdale Olympia East for my friends. It was the only one that would allow them to be able to come and view one of the rooms of the facility, due to Covid. Everybody else is not allowing any visitors at all. At Brookdale, they were fabulous. I didn't have any issues with them. They answered all of our questions. I've only met two individuals within the staff, and they were very knowledgeable. What we were able to see at the facility was in very good condition and was very nice. There weren't any residents that were actually out in the hallways, so we couldn't really see what was going on. What we liked was that, we did get a welcoming feel when we came in. It seemed like it was very easy to negotiate for the residents, so I thought it was a very good layout.

Brookdale Olympia East was probably the most positive place that I visited with great people and good facility. I'm not at that level of care but that would've been my first choice. They showed me a one-bedroom apartment with a nice patio and windows, but I didn't care for the size of the refrigerator. I saw people huddled together working on something at the crafts room. They had absolutely wonderful staff, from the person who meets you in the front door, to the mailroom clerk, to dining room staff. Whoever supervises them are really on target. They are great people who made me feel like I belong there even though I was just visiting.

I was impressed with Brookdale Olympia East. It smelled great and it looked modern. It looked like a high-end hotel. It was beautiful and very nice. The person who gave me a tour was very caring and interested. I met a number of the caregivers.

I visited Brookdale. I met with the director. The food is nice there. They had a very nice dining room, and it looks like the kitchen people really interacted helpfully with the residents. They had chair exercises and yoga. The place is clean, but it could use a fresh coat of paint here and there. There was a two-bedroom with a lot of windows in the main room and a nice window in the bedroom. It was a corner apartment, and it was more like a home.

Emeritus at Olympia has a very pleasant atmosphere. The apartments are very nice. We got a two-bedroom, and there is plenty of room for most of our furniture. They provide all the meals, and they have buses going to different places throughout the week. They take you to doctors' appointments. They have lots of activities like card games, Wii games, and sing-alongs.

I have visited Emeritus at Olympia. It has a nice landscape, and it’s a very small community. We felt their hallways were too narrow, and it was a lot smaller population. We had a good experience. The food looked fine, and we had a meal here also. Every room we went was very clean -- it was just smaller -- and they have a nice area to walk. We went around to all the different sitting rooms where they ate. The person who entertained me was very knowledgeable, and my overall experience was good.

Emeritus seems to fit my uncle’s needs. The staff seemed really good, gave us a very nice tour, were very friendly and were genuinely concerned about my uncle and his well-being. It’s very relaxed and not too structured for him. They have very good food and the dining area was very clean. They had the hours that they were open clearly posted and it was very easy to order, and they had everything we needed.

Emeritus at Olympia was an older facility and was not as clean as the others we visited. The staff was kind enough, but wasn't really cooperative and wasn't willing to bring my aunt into that facility. They weren't willing to work with me because they felt my aunt was a fall risk and I didn't see it that way. However, their rooms were spacious enough for my aunt. They had a restaurant style dining area. We had lunch there and the food was fine.

Emeritus at Olympia appreciates all reviews and acknowledges all feelings. Potential residents are never turned down without an assessment completed prior to move in to ensure that all care needs can be met. If someone is not safe behind a closed door in a private apartment, or can not use a call light to alert someone to their care needs, they may not be appropriate and need a different kind of senior housing option. This community is always glad to refer someone to a safer environment. At times our honesty and integrity may be hard to accept when someone is close to a situation or possibly in denial. Our residents care and well-being always comes first at this community.

I cannot say enough great things about this community. It's clear, from the moment you walk through their doors, the staff genuinely cares for their residents and the family members as well. I have never seen staff (aides, housekeeping, management) stressed, unhappy or flustered. Everyone has a kind heart and sturdy backbone. I hope the culture never changes. From the bottom up to the top down, everyone is a part of a team and it shows by how happy their residents are. Mark and Cindy are amazing the work with and set a great tone for the organization. They are special folks and Emeritus (or any organization for that matter) would be lucky to have them!

We chose Merrill Gardens (Emeritus) because few of her friends were there and it was just two blocks away from where she had been living so it's convenient. Some days the food is good and some days she does not like it. It's being taken over by United Health Care so they are in transition right now. Sometimes her meds in the morning, they don't come in until 11 o'clock which is a little late for her meds, but other than that it's fine. They clean the apartment once a week. She has a nice apartment with a little balcony and the rooms are of decent size. The kitchen is very small, you really can't do a lot in the kitchen. The refrigerator is half size and you really can't put anything in the freezer because it's very small and it does not work properly.

I chose Merill Gardens because it's convenient; I work just across the street there. They're friendly and knowledgeable. They have anytime dining between seven in the morning and seven at night. It's high quality food and mom's happy with it. They watch movies and some live entertainment. They have other different games and cards. My mom's not really social so she doesn't get involved. She's got dementia. It's clean and she has a nice one bedroom apartment. They already have a cat for her. I wish they would give me a little bit more feedback and keep track. They have a buddy system for a couple of days; however I'm not sure if my mom actually remembers to go down to eat and take vitamins. With what they're charging, I think they should offer a system where you don't have to pay a lot of extra money. She's in independent living but I'm seeing now that it's not going to work out for her. She needs more assistance. Overall, the food is good, the people are friendly and nice. They maintain an environment that's pleasant and my mom's very happy there. She has a nice corner apartment with windows and a kitchenette even though she doesn't do much cooking.
