The Cottages at Mill Creek was a good place for people with Alzheimer's and dementia. It had small units with 10 residents in each. They didn't have too many amenities because all their residents were quite far along in dementia. They had some activities for their residents but not a lot. The dining area was also part of the living area where the residents sit most of the day. The food was institutional, but my mother never complained about it. The rooms were small with enough space for a bed, a chair, and a dresser. The staff was very caring and sometimes a bit overloaded, but the care my mom received was pretty good.

My mom had three ribs broken while living here and had to stay in the hospital for months. She was covered in bruises at varying stages of healing. She had UTI I had diagnosed, and an infected foot I had to take her to get treated. The Cottages director actually called Adult Protective Services on ME for the attack, and the case was dropped immediately. The food is not nutritious (I bought my mom's food and visited regularly to ensure she was eating healthy) and it's often undercooked. This facility is not safe for any vulnerable adult. The staff and the manager are mean, and they do not care. The residents are often left unattended - there are state reports that can be viewed publicly. Please don't put your vulnerable loved ones in this facility.

The Cottages at Mill Creek was not the right setting for my mother-in-law; however, I think the staff was very compassionate with their patient plan, specifically what they need to do and how they need to keep busy. They had friendly staff and the manager was very nice; however, it wasn't a good fit for what we thought my mother-in-law would be able to deal with. We didn't really get to see the rooms too much. They were very small. Also, they did not have any space available. It looked like the place needed some updating. It didn't look like there was a lot of opportunities for activities. It was just like a large building with rooms and the residents were sleeping on the couch, so it didn't look like it had too much to offer. We didn't feel warm and fuzzy there. The food was brought in from some other kitchen area.
