I went to Dominion Senior Living of Hixson. The facility was beautiful and immaculate, and the lady said that my father's income isn't enough to cover the expenses and they don't take government care. They do have, however, a dementia ward in the back, and the rates were too high for us. So, she took us to the back room, chatted with my sister and me, went down the list of his level of dementia, and told us that he needed to be in a dementia ward and that nursing home state government help. She was very nice and very understanding and tried to help us as much as she could but couldn't offer her facility because I think it was $6,000 a month. We couldn't afford that. It was an excellent facility, and if we had the money then that would have been one of my first choices. It was halfway between my siblings and me, and we would love that. If we can afford it, I would send my father there. It was excellent. The staff were kind, considerate, and understanding. The facility was fine, and centrally located for the dining hall and meeting area. When you walk in, you see the people in the dining hall. One thing was important to me, there was a desk inside the door. So, people were watching as you came in the door, and you could go right there and get help. I felt like that was an excellent quality of the facility. Not only do you watch people when they're coming in, but you watch people when they're leaving. Whether it's good, bad, or different, you know who's coming and going. It was top-notch, beautiful, and clean; probably the nicest facility I have visited.

I went to Dominion Senior Living of Hixson. They had a circular floor plan with a courtyard in the middle. Some of the room configurations were weird. We looked at a one-bedroom, which had a separate living space. The separate living room area was very small and it didn't have a window by where it was placed, so it seemed very dark. That's the only one we saw that was like that. The others weren't like that. We looked at both studios and one-bedrooms. Mom ran into a friend of hers and we ended up sitting in that lady's apartment talking for a long time after the tour. Nothing stood out in particular and Mom wasn't as drawn to Dominion as she was to the other place and so I just sort of dismissed it in my mind. The staff was very nice. They had some kind of activity that we watched for a minute that was kind of fun. They had lined up the seniors across from each other in chairs. They were sword fighting with plastic pool noodles swinging them around in the air.

My mother-in-law is at Dominion Senior Living of Hixson. There people engaged and participating in activities. It made us feel like she would be a part of a community, and not just having a place to stay without the engagement and interaction with people. I can tell you that we did not really have as much of an impression when we were visiting. When we did make the decision, they've been really amazing with helping us to get her adjusted and answering questions. They also were great at following up with us throughout the process of getting her integrated and getting her into the assisted living home. I think the set-up was really nice and very modern. All the amenities are new. She is in a studio so it is not very big, but the layout and everything is nice. My mother-in-law loves the food. She is very happy with it. We liked the fact that they really ask the residents to eat in person and not have the food in their room. They want them to get the experience of eating as a community and not by themselves. We have seen bingo in a number of occasions. They have a walking club and a movie night. They have a game that they play called The Price is Right. They had a putting green, and I know some of the members will go out and enjoy the putting green. It is very clean, very kept up, and very appealing to the eye.

We're hoping to get into Dominion Senior Living of Hixson. They had a higher staff ratio to patients and they're better qualified; they don't call hospice much at all there. They need the least amount of assistance so that shows us that the staff is well-equipped to deal with the patients. I just like the staffing and the facility, they just seemed well-equipped and it was nice.

My sister was previously at Dominion Senior Living of Hixson. The staff were very helpful, friendly, and they knew the people they were taking care of. They were responsive: I could email or call. You kind of develop a relationship because I could go in up there, and we could see each other. It was clean, neat, and bright. They had activities for the seniors. I chose it because I would not have minded being up there. I was very pleased. They knew what their clientele liked, and what they did not like. They knew my sister well. I tried their food, and it was excellent. I was very pleased with Dominion, and I would recommend it to anybody.
