"I was at NHC Healthcare of Clinton for a while under doctors' care and they treated me real well right there. All of it went real well. It was clean, the staff was adequate, and the food was good."

"My dad has moved into Woodbridge of Clinton. The facilities are nice. They're clean and very well kept. It's an older building, but they've done a pretty good job of cleaning it up and making it very presentable and livable for people. Most of the staff are very friendly and very attentive to my dad. They do a very good job. They take the time to talk with him and spend a few minutes when they can with him and things like that, which is very nice. I have not tried the food, but I've seen the food that they have, and for the most part, it looks pretty good. My dad enjoys it. They have activities, but he hasn't participated in any yet. He has only been there for a little bit now, and so he's just kind of settling in. They're very affordable, too. They have a library, an activity room, a dining hall, and a chapel. That's the only one we went to because it was close, and we liked it. It was very clean and very nice looking. We toured the room, and we felt that for the price and for the location, that was a very good place to send our dad, and so far, we've been fairly pleased."

"My wife was at Saluda Nursing Center. It was very clean and nice. The staff members were proficient and worked with us in any way they could. The rooms were very clean, and the food was good. I didn't find anything bad there. They were very clean and customer-oriented. The staff seemed to care about the patients and their families. "

"My wife is several days into physical rehab at Lowman. She is experiencing a 5-Star situation in all rating respects…facility, therapy, nursing, housekeeping, administration, meals. et al. Over-all staff attention/professionalism is exemplary, IMO. Full recovery from brain surgery appears doable via this program. Exhilarating."

"Do not be fooled by facilities that show you all the glamorous rooms and programs they offer, those are set up as showrooms. ALWAYS ask them about End of Life, Skilled Nursing, and Memory Care, your loved one may not need it now, but it could be a possibility in the future. Know what is expected of you if the money/insurance runs out, know the options bf you place your loved one with a facility. We toured a place that looked like a country club, but they didn’t provide skilled nursing, if needed, or around the clock care, they said they had a tech available at night. Caring.com got me started and was a valuable resource. They didn’t try to guide us to certain places, no conflict of interest, just told us what was available in our area. After visiting 15 places, we chose The Clinton Presbyterian Community. They offer multiple layers of care, very clean environment and the staff were very friendly and caring. My Mom says the food is great, that’s a plus!"

"Generations of Batesburg-Leesville is a lovely place. The people there are really nice. The owners running the place are very kind and compassionate people. My aunt seems to be doing very well with physical therapy. In fact, I think she's walking straighter than ever. She usually has to hunch over. She still has to use her cane, but she seems to be standing up straighter just in the matter of weeks and I just don't think I can help her that way. The facility is nice and clean. I think there's only some carpeted areas, but her room is hardwood floor. They seem to encourage everybody to get together and get along. I didn't get to see the activities in action, but a friend of mine who's kind of running my aunt's affairs right now said that she was up there one day and my aunt was playing bingo and having a nice time. I think she's enjoying it and getting used to it, and I've been impressed with it so far. They also have nice grounds that's pretty accessible for walking outside, looking at a fountain and things like that. She's got a window in her room and her own bathroom. She said the food is pretty good. $2,400 is not bad. That's one of the best prices I've seen for a place that nice. Some of the other places were like posh hotels, but we couldn't afford that. For the money, I think it's an excellent place."

"I am a resident of LMC Extended Care. I think they're minimal, and could be better; but overall, I think they're okay. We don't have visitors, we don't have anything like that, to touch your family or anything. It is disheartening. They take good care of us. The food is okay. Overall, I'm pleased. There's a variety of menus. Breakfast in the morning, I get up at fried egg and grits, raisin toast, and coffee. It was great, I eat everything. It's very clean and well maintained. We have outdoor spaces that are there for us to get outside; they're very pleasing, very calming, and very restful. We have a little waterfall and things where it's just bubbling up; it is calming and quiet."

"My father is at the Lexington Medical Center - Carroll Campbell Place Alzheimer's Care. It is specialized in caring for people who have Dementia and Alzheimer's and they have a high staff-to- patient ratio. The facilities were renovated and up-to-date and the care is above average. He has been there for 2 months now. Their facility is up-to-date and modern. They do one-on-one work in helping with physical activities to help him retain strength. They get him dressed, and he's always clean and neat. They wash his clothes too. This has not been the case for every home that he's been in. This has been the best home as far as making him look presentable, and neat, and adding value to his life. The food seems to be good but it could probably be institutional. It is private pay, it is expensive, and they do not accept Medicaid. This is the fifth home dad has been in over the last three years, and it is by far the most expensive, but it also has been the best."

"I toured Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Center, a continuing care community in Laurens. I have chosen it for myself because it's just very welcoming and very comfortable. It's beautiful, like living in a park. I enjoy the outdoor space. I have friends who live there already, so it just works for me all the way around. It's warm and inviting, and I feel comfortable there. They're concerned about you, and they want what works for you, not what works for them. I had lunch there and the food was very good. I can't say anything bad about them. I just really like the place."

"The tour I had of Oakleaf Village of Lexington was great. It's beautiful and very clean. They have extremely knowledgeable staff. The rooms were very clean, new, and somewhat newly renovated with brand-new carpet. But they seemed to be a little bit smaller than the other rooms I had seen at other places. They had a lot of activities, but they didn't have PT or OT. They have an in-house salon, they have a manicure day for the ladies, and they have bingo. I met their activities coordinator. She was busy doing something with the memory care patients. The dining area was restaurant-style and excellent-looking."

"My father was a resident in this place when it was Oakmont Manor. The name has changed but from what I understand the standard of care hasn't. My mother was no longer able to provide full time care for my father. She would have died had she kept going at the pace she was going. We finally convinced her this was the best decision because Dad would be in a facility with equipment and staff to provide the 'round the clock care one person alone couldn't do. It was the most agonizing decision any of us ever had to make but we believed it was in my parents best interest. We trusted the facility. We were wrong. Every nightmarish thing I had ever heard about a nursing home was true with this place. If you love someone, don't send them here. If you loathe someone don't send them here. By the way when asked for value, I am not sure how to rate the value of breaking someone's spirit."

"New Light Community Care is a small facility. The people are very nice and very caring. They want to make sure that my dad has a good, comfortable place to stay. He seems to be happy, and he enjoys the food. They have a very good cook. They help my dad with medicine and stuff like that. They have outdoor space. The rooms are pretty large. They have a TV and a couch in their room. They have a common area. They have their own bathroom. It is recommended by the VA."
