"The Village at Southlake is a very nice place. If time comes when I have to find a place, that seems like the place I'd want to go to because it's really nice. I saw all of the rooms and all the different facilities, and it was excellent. I could be happy there. The lady was so nice, too. It was wonderful and convenient in everything."

"I toured Colonial Gardens Memory Care. It was a memory care facility. It was more interactive, but not a good fit for my mother. Many people didn't seem to be in the category where my mom was. My mom's not at that point yet. I like the place. As far as the activities, everybody was very active. I did not like the Colonial Garden rooming setup, but where my mom is now for an apartment is like what she's familiar with. The staff would have a ten. I liked her. I like how she gave the tour and interacted with everybody there. I was very impressed by it. The first thing I noticed was that the facility smelled clean. It didn't smell like a memory care home, and people were always cleaning."

"We went to Holiday Columbia Pines. I like that they have outside balconies in some of their rooms. They seem to have a nice variety of exercises and classes that you could go to, as well as a little workout area. I like their library. It's like a little media room, so I thought it was nice. The person we interacted with was their salesperson, and she was very informative and very pleasant. I thought that the facility was very accessible. But the units were a little smaller than the other place, and they did not have a stovetop or anything. So if you wanted to boil an egg or something like that, you couldn't. It was more like assisted living than independent living."

"Brookdale Columbia was a very nice and very accommodating facility. The rooms were nice. The dining area was nice. I liked the menus because they changed and then sometimes you could order things that weren't on the menu, which I liked, too. The family room, where they watch TV and so forth and gather together, was nice and clean. I don't have any complaints about it. Those who can drive, can still have their car there. For others, they have the van to take them to other activities outside of the facility. They have game nights and stuff as well. They were friendly."

"My friend moved to Highlands Senior Living Gaston. It's a very happy place. They're so well cared for, and they just have smiles on their faces, and they're doing a lot for them. It's just nice to go there. Her apartment is a little small, but it's comfortable. It's clean. They have all their own things in there. She has a therapist. She is in a situation where she is in a special area for those with dementia."

"We really liked Harmony at Columbia. Whether you're living on your own or in the assisted living part, you will all have lunch together in a very beautiful lunch hall. They offer planned meals, but they also have alternatives, which I like. You could pick what drink you want. They will get your order and bring it out to you. It was just really, really nice. The apartment has a stove and a microwave. If you don't want to eat in the dining area, you could cook for yourself, which is what I like. Because I love baking, I could still bake there. I could go down and eat what they have prepared for me, but if I don't want to, I don't have to eat there. Everybody came to us and asked, "Have you been helped? How can we help you?" They were very attentive and explained all the pluses and minuses of the facility. They had maintenance that would come out and fix anything you wanted fixed. The food was prepared well. Their options were all healthy. They had dessert and stuff, too. We were shown a two-bedroom apartment because we had to have two baths. The main bedroom would fit a king-sized bed, and the other one would fit a queen-sized bed. The shower room had handrails and other amenities. One bathroom had a tub and shower, and the other had just a shower."

"My brother will move into TerraBella Windsor Lake. The people were very friendly. The staff was exceptionally understanding and grateful for the new people coming into the community. Russell was very compassionate, and Hanna was wonderful. They have an excellent cook. Everything was immaculate and very comfortable. They had nice, spacious apartments. The place was pleasant. It just felt like home. It was welcoming."

"I have a friend over at Vitality Living Columbia. It's a beautiful place. I like the space that they have, the community, where it's located, and all of their activities. The rooms are very nice. The dining room is beautiful. The price is a little expensive, though. The cleanliness is fantastic. There's no odor. Even the dining room is very nice. The staff is nice, too. I tried their food because my friend was having her supper, and the food was wonderful. You order what you want. They have a lot of activities. They have transportation if you need to go to the doctor, and there are certain days when you can go out shopping if you want to. It is expensive, but they cater to the residents. I think twice a week, they come in and change their linen. Housekeeping is wonderful, too. They are nice at keeping your place clean and everything. I love it."

"Discovery Village at Sandhill in Columbia is a beautiful place. When I went for a tour, it was newly built. It happened years ago, but they still call me and keep in touch with me. They send me invitations to come and participate in activities, even though I'm not a resident there. I chose not to live there because it's a little pricey. It's nice that they still invite me to different barbecues and different events that they have. The place is luxurious. They allow my church to use their media room. They have a theater set up, and we were able to watch a movie there. They had popcorn, candy, and drinks. All of that was available to us while we watched the movie for free, so that was really nice. Another time that I was there, we were invited to have lunch there. The food was not hot. I guess it had sat there for a while, and so it was pretty much room temperature. Not everybody likes that. Everything was brand-new like the stainless-steel appliances, ice makers, and microwave. There's a walk-in shower and a place with a washer and dryer hookups. Even though they had a laundry facility on-site, you still had the option of bringing in your own appliances. They offered the same things as the other places, like housekeeping and a salon for hair washing. It was really nice. You definitely get what you're paying for. The staff that was there during my visits were all very friendly and willing to offer us drinks. Even though we had already toured the place the first time, each time I go back they offer to give me another tour just hoping that I would change my mind. It's definitely a place that people should visit. "

"My dad is in the memory care area of The Blake at Woodcreek Farms. He has a wonderful room. It's spacious enough. He has a sense of having an apartment and the people are wonderful. They try very hard to keep up with everybody and make sure everybody eats and is safe. They're all very caring and tender with the residents. The staff is a little lacking sometimes, but for the most part, they are very good. They come in and change his trash and clean up. They have been very caring of every resident, no matter what role the staff has. I see them come in, even the physical therapist stops by and makes sure somebody takes a few bites of food when they're not eating. So, they all work together very well to take care of the residents. They were also doing bingo with them one day, and everybody seemed to be enjoying that. I would highly recommend this place."

"Generations of Chapin had more of an open atmosphere and a little bit of a country atmosphere. My mother would have more room in her actual room and it just seemed very nice and seemed to work for us. The staff was great. They have a calendar of activities that they share. They have church services and they have areas where people can sit down for conversations, or for games, or snacks. I liked that they have a very nice outdoor area, plus they have a large screened-in room and an actual sunroom where you could sit in. This place has been there for a while, but it seemed to appeal to the older generation because they feel more at home with things that have a little date on them. I really liked it."

"My wife is several days into physical rehab at Lowman. She is experiencing a 5-Star situation in all rating respects…facility, therapy, nursing, housekeeping, administration, meals. et al. Over-all staff attention/professionalism is exemplary, IMO. Full recovery from brain surgery appears doable via this program. Exhilarating."

"I'm interested with Generations of Irmo. It looks very nice. They are updating it so that it doesn't look dark and dreary. They have some amenities like all the rest. They have six meals a day, cleaning the room weekly, laundry weekly, and they will take care of whatever need that you have, whether it's medication or help with shower or dressing or whatever. The room rate is one price only. The owner was very thorough and very helpful. I haven't really met a lot of the staff, but the ones I did were very friendly. The dining area was bright and cheery."

"I am a resident of LMC Extended Care. I think they're minimal, and could be better; but overall, I think they're okay. We don't have visitors, we don't have anything like that, to touch your family or anything. It is disheartening. They take good care of us. The food is okay. Overall, I'm pleased. There's a variety of menus. Breakfast in the morning, I get up at fried egg and grits, raisin toast, and coffee. It was great, I eat everything. It's very clean and well maintained. We have outdoor spaces that are there for us to get outside; they're very pleasing, very calming, and very restful. We have a little waterfall and things where it's just bubbling up; it is calming and quiet."
