My husband is staying at the North Carolina State Veterans Home - Black Mountain. I like it because it's full of veterans, and he is a veteran. So, he doesn't have to wonder when he speaks to somebody about their background. He feels there's something in common already. I love that the hallways are so wide that you can see veterans in their wheelchairs going up and down and greeting each other. The room is huge and private. The bathroom is private. The shower is amazingly big. I think this place was built as a state-of-the-art facility for veterans, and I'm so happy my husband is in it. Every person I've met who's on staff has been friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. I was so happy when I went there and met one of them, and they told me what was going on. They know their patients well. They serve three meals a day. They have a calendar of events. They have a 70s day, a Wild Hair day, and a Western day, and they barbecued outside. They do a lot of things that make it fun for residents.
