I toured The Residence at Salem Woods. I loved everything about it. It's clean, and beautifully decorated, with lots of activities, good menu food, good policies, and friendly staff. The person who gave the tour was knowledgeable, very personable, and kind. I can't say anything negative about it. It's the Taj Mahal of residence living. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The dining area was clean, like a restaurant. They have big bedrooms. Even the studio was large.

My mom moved into The Residence at Salem Woods. The level of care that they are allowed to provide is important because as her needs advance, I want her to be able to stay in one place, and some of the facilities or communities are unable to provide things like mechanically altered food or other kinds of assistance that she is going to need. So I like that Salem Woods could do that. The staff are oozing positivity. They're very nice. I thought her room was pretty good sized, and I toured 12 different places, hers was nice and neat, with bright big windows. I liked it a lot. Where she is in the memory care is neat and nice. They have plenty of staff to help you. If she needs mechanically altered food, they do that for you. If she needs help eating they do that for you. But there's an additional dining room that you're allowed to visit. She can go with somebody who signs her out and eat off the menu. It's very nice. I found that they had a pretty full schedule from 10:00 in the morning until 6:00 at night, and even after 6:00 they often have movies or trivia. They do things like sing-alongs, drum circles, arts and crafts, bingo, and cards. They have quite a lot to offer. My mother seems to be engaging, which is important I feel. They have a community garden, one that's completely enclosed and one that's open that they can go out to. They can go to the bigger one, but the smaller one is lovely. They have a hair salon. They have visiting practices for doctor medical care. They have a pharmacy. They have physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy. They have quite a lot. They have a room where if I wanted to book it for my family to have a private party for my mother, I can do that at no extra cost.

I liked The Residence at Salem Woods. I was impressed. Physically, it was nice. The activities were nice. The staff who assisted me with the tour was very good. They've got a list of all the daily activities. They had a film room, a game room, and a library. They had independent living and assisted living where you could switch from one to the other, while others don't have that. So, I liked that. I just highly recommend it. I saw the dining room, and I saw the menus.

My wife has moved into The Residence at Salem Woods. It's very clean. The people working there are absolutely incredible and very caring. They are very attentive and very kind. My wife is a very picky eater, and so far she's been eating three meals a day there. They have an activity in the morning and the afternoon for them. They have day trips that they go on, sometimes to the mall, sometimes just on a ride, and sometimes to go get ice cream. They had an activity where they did her fingernails. The place looks like it should be a hotel instead of a hospital. The other places were a little bit cheaper. This is a little bit more expensive, but not by a lot. We're not talking about thousands of dollars worth of difference, but it's nice.

The Residence at Salem Woods was very nice. The girl who assisted me on the tour was wonderful. The people were very nice and friendly. I had a great tour of the facility. We went down to the Memory Care unit, which was very nice. It's just that they had long corridors which would confuse the residents. The residents were doing chair exercises while I was there. They were all in a very nice room and this lady was doing her best, but I don't think they could follow her. Their menu choices were very nice. I did see residents in the memory care eating and they all had an aide next to them, either helping them out or just being there, which was nice. The staff was very pleasant and you could see a lot of them, which I liked.

The Residence at Salem Woods was good. It just wasn't for my mom. She wanted classical music and they had other types of music. Also, the activities that they were offering weren't quite what my mom was interested in, but the facility was very new, so it was very clean and well-kept. They had a salon and doctors who could come in and you could have appointments with.

I liked The Residence at Salem Woods. They get all the residents involved, making them do different things and getting them interested and everything. The staff was very informative and showed me a lot of the stuff and answered my questions. They had a gym, a salon, a TV area, and a get-together area.

We liked The Residence at Salem Woods a lot. We might go there down the road, if dad feels like he can't live at home anymore. We liked their apartments. It had a full kitchen. It just wasn't as big as I'd hoped, but we still liked it. The lady who showed us around was great. They provided food to us, and it was great. She walked us around and told us all about the place. She tried to find out what our needs were. They were really responsive. We were asking questions afterwards, and they answered questions right away via email. The place was spotless, very clean, and new. We went into the empty rooms. They totally repaint them, so they're like brand new apartments. Everything was topnotch. They didn't have anything outside on the second floor, but down below had like a little courtyard.

The Residence at Salem Woods was beautiful, grand, and formal. I just feel like it was a little bit more for active and a little bit younger people. My father-in-law is ninety-six. The staff weren't all that great. They didn't seem like they really cared if we came or not. The rooms were beautiful and bigger than those of the other place we visited. The dining area was more beautiful. Everything was more beautiful at The Residence at Salem Woods, and the food was probably better too. It's a little fancier, nicer, and more upscale, but the other one was more homey and felt more like a family. I didn't think it was a proper fit for my father-in-law, but it was beautiful.

My parents moved to The Residence at Salem Woods. My father is in independent and my mother is in memory care. Everything's been perfect so far. My father has an apartment and it's very nice, a lot of light from windows, it's just really nice, updated, and it's brandnew. The facility I think is about five years old, and my mother has a room within the memory care area unit. The food is excellent, they have a chef. It's all cooked to order, very nice. When we moved our father in they do let everybody have something to eat. You could order. It's lovely, it's relatively new, so everything is beautiful. I chose it because they could both be in the same place and get the care that each one of them needs; different kinds of things. My mother's in need of memory care and my father needs a safe place, but also so he could be near her. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. They helped a lot 'cause my father was old and nervous about moving, it was a big step, and they really made him feel welcome, important, and happy. And my mother, they were very accommodating to her too. They are excellent. They've just been there. My father is in quarantine. It's a little expensive, but because they have a lot of things.

My in-laws moved to The Residence at Salem Woods. So far, we're thrilled with it. They have a one-bedrooom apartment that's very nicely appointed, nice sized, has great closets, and it's lovely. They have two different rooms that they use for dining, one is the bistro and the other is the dining room, and both are lovely. They have activities. So far, everything has been great. It's not inexpensive, but compared to everybody else in the industry, it's fair.

We found a place for my mother. It's The Residence at Salem Woods. It's wonderful. I visited it last fall, and then when my mother decided she wanted to move this fall, my brother and I went back to visit it again, and we really liked it. It's a beautiful place. They have all sorts of activities. There's also a senior center right across the street that has sorts of activities. Obviously, right now, they're not able to use that, but they will once this COVID thing is all over. They have a nice menu, but I haven't tasted the food.

One of my relatives moved into Salem Woods but had to move out after only three weeks due to very dangerous and chronic mismanagement of medication by their staff. What’s worse is their blatant attempts to cover this up and blame others for it. We’re now filing complaints with numerous state regulatory and oversight agencies to ensure that The Residence at Salem Woods fixes their many problems. We urge anyone who might need assistance with medications to avoid living at Salem Woods until this is resolved. My relative ended up in respiratory failure after Salem Woods personnel failed to give her critical daily medication for over 3 weeks. First they blamed the patient’s primary care doctor for this, then they blamed the patient instead of taking responsibility. Separately, they admitted their staff failed 10 times in just a 3 week period to log the administration of narcotic pain medication, seriously putting her at risk of receiving a lethal overdose. After we audited their logs, we further discovered that a third medication had not been given for at least 5 days in a row. But when we caught this weeks later and brought it to the attention of the director of nursing, she claimed that she spoke to the on duty staff at the time. The staff was then allowed to retroactively log the medication weeks later, claiming that they simply had “forgotten” to log it but “remembered” giving it. Subsequent checking of the medication showed that in fact there remained too much medication in the vial for it to have been administered that many times. My relative complained to the nurse on duty that she was having shortness of breath and wanted to go to the emergency room. Instead of staying with the patient, the nurse went downstairs and called me to ask what to do. This wasted precious minutes as we found out later. I asked what medications had been given that day. She responded that the medication log from the other nurses was too hard to read so she couldn’t tell. I then had to tell her to call 911 and get back to the room to be with the patient. By then the patient had lost consciousness and needed CPR. She spent the next 2 weeks in and out of hospitals, including ICU where she was intubated. I met with the management of the facility about these issues. They admitted they had issues but offered no actions to remediate them and to date have not addressed the issue with staff. I left the meeting totally dumbfounded and told them they had serious legal and safety liabilities. My relative moved out in September 2020. When we requested the return of her security deposit, the executive director sent my relative a release of liability agreement and stated we would only get the money back if we agreed not to pursue legal action against them. This is extortion on top of what was already terrible injustice to a vulnerable senior citizen who almost died while in their care! There is much more to this incredibly heartbreaking story. I feel terribly for the existing residents of Salem Woods, especially given the Covid related restrictions make it difficult for loved ones to see what’s really going on there. I also feel badly for the many staff who truly seem to care but are managed by people who are incapable taking responsibility for making a safe environment. I feel obligated to speak for the people who can’t and make sure Salem Woods is held responsible.

My father moved into the Residence at Salem Woods. It's absolutely gorgeous, he has a beautiful apartment there, he's well cared for, and love the staff. His apartment is very well-cared for, it has ample room to put in table and chairs, a bed, and he has a walk-in shower and TV. He participates only in exercise activities, but they have excursions like lunch out, they go to casinos, and he's adjusting very well. They have smaller portions for food, but for people that are elderly, that's the perfect portion for them.
