"We toured Good Samaritan Society - Grand Island Village. It was a very nice tour. It was great, but it was pretty pricey. The staff who gave me the tour were very good. They were great. It was all great, but the price. They have duplexes, and they were wonderful. They're new and very nice. It's one floor, and it had everything you need. They take care of all the outside maintenance. We would have to pay for the internet, but it had a TV. All of the utilities are covered except for the phone. They also have a scheduled bus, so you could go places on the bus. At the main building, they have some activities such as a church service, cards, games, puzzles, and that sort of thing."

"Matelyn Retirement Community is a beautiful and spacious facility. The staff and residents all are happy and seem very content as though they are "at home". The prices are very reasonable and I was surprised at how large both the assisted living and independent living apartments are. This will be our choice in the near future. "

"I thought the staff could've been better, they seemed to not have enough time to help everyone that needed help, like they were understaffed. The help that we did get was very appropriate as well as respectful. The meals are homemade and very fresh, also snacks are provided and they make those fresh as well. Activities were very enjoying, they offered a live band to come in and play oldies music ,also encouraging the elders to get up and dance for exercise or to clap along. We had a great time there, most of the time and would enjoy if we went back. I do hope that the next time we are there , maybe they will have more staff on hand to not leave patients waiting for the facilities bathroom/shower ect. "

"Brookefield Park is fairly new, maybe only three or four years old. The people we met that work there are wonderful. The quality of the food here looks more real, it looks like something we'd cook at home. It's just really a pleasant place. We just saw the menus and met the chef that works there. The food just looks a lot better than what they're getting where they're at. They were all full when we were there, so we weren't able to go into the rooms. But they have various levels of rooms. Since he'll probably be a Medicaid patient, it would probably be the least decorated or anything. They call it a head-toe room. Two men would share a bathroom, but they'd each have their own room, one to the north and one to the south, and then the bathroom between them. The staff were excellent. They had family dining if you wanted a family, plus they had dining for the memory unit and then they had dining for the rest of the units. It's homemade food instead of pre-cooked or whatever. They have outdoor facilities for them to go out, even memory care there. Since they can't leave a certain area, it's restricted and they made it very nice for them. They have a lot of games and music and things like that. It was very nice, clean, and modern. I just hope they get some openings."

"York General Willow Brook is wonderful. It's a beautiful place. They have all kinds of activities and my mom participates in them. She's made a couple of really good friends already. The rooms are beautiful. They're gorgeous and the staff does a great job cleaning it up. They'll wash her clothes if she wants to, and the food is pretty good. Her room has a little kitchenette with a closet right off when you walk in. It has a refrigerator, sink, and microwave. Then there's a living room with a bay window. It's a pretty good size. Then there are French doors that lead into the bedroom. That is the same size as the living room and off of that is a closet that is 6 feet by 8 feet and the bathroom is adjacent to that. It's also 6 by 8 with a walk-in shower. It's got vaulted ceilings in the living room and it's gorgeous. My mother-in-law had been there in the same type of apartment for six years, so I was already familiar with the area and I had eaten in the cafeteria before. The staff has been awesome. You can ask for rides to go shopping at Walmart. they will do your laundry, they will clean your apartment, fix the food, and provide snacks. They have a little ice cream station with a soft-serve ice cream and a popcorn machine. They have a fairly large room where they have church services over the TV, if need be, or if pastors come and they have Bible studies for them. They have a library, a workout gym area, areas for them to do puzzles or play games like bingo. They have a hair salon and a whirlpool area (that they call the spa). It's like a U-shaped facility and on the one end, there's also a kitchen where they can bake. It's not big or anything. It's just a wonderful place."

"Hearthstone is an overall excellent nursing home in York, Neb. The facilities are well maintained and clean, and there are a lot of activities for the resident who are up to being social and getting out of their rooms. The nursing staff are generally caring and gentle people who seem as though they care about the residents. They will work with the families to carry out their wishes, and generally stick to requests for how family members are cared for. Occasionally, there will be a staffer who will not do as they are asked, or communication issues will mean that staffers, especially the overnight staff, are not aware of requested changes in care. The biggest problem we encountered were the doctors, who would often change medications without consulting the family, resulting in our grandmother's behavior or emotional state changing unexpectedly. My aunt, who spent much of her time there with grandmother (her mother), was the greatest judge of how grandmother was doing on her medications, and the doctors would often ignore her when she would relate how changes in medication affected grandmother. Overall it is an excellent facility, but family needs to be firm with the staff and doctors in making sure that the resident get exactly the best possible care. "

"I attended the Primrose Retirement Community of Grand Island for my great grandmother 96th birthday party and my overall experience was one that consisted of mostly positive things. The facilities were very nice and up-to-date. They allowed us sufficient room for the party and the chairs and table were already set up. We brought in the birthday cake and drinks, they did not provide them. Many people attending and it was a very nice birthday party. My only complaint was that there was a lack of staff involvement during and after the party. For example, they didn't help serve, clean-up or do the little things like show people where the restrooms were. The party lasted well over 4 hours and the staff was not trying to push us out as it got close to dinner time, like most retirement communities would. Great job Primrose I will definitely come back and visit if I get the chance. "

"We ended up getting my grandmother to move into Tiffany Square Care Center. She needed complete skilled care. We were limited on what we needed to do, and we knew that it was more pricey, too, but it was the best thing for her at the time with this COVID. The staff has been great. They're very helpful. The layout is really nice. It's easy access off the road. It looks like it's well taken care of. To me, it's pretty pricey. However, they have very personable people, the place is clean, and they have good staff in their different fields from physical therapy to skilled care. That part, I think, it's just phenomenal. The only part I can complain about right now is just the COVID, so we can't be in there. It's just tough, not just for me and for my grandmother, but for everyone."

"We chose The Heritage at Sagewood because they have rooms available that my parents could be together again. It was a newer community. The facilities were just awesome. The director and the care coordinator were very helpful in getting them situated and helping get this in place very quickly. My parents moved into the assisted living apartment. They love the food. I would describe the facility as very much feeling like a home. The attendants in nursing care there are very good. The facility is very clean and very current with its decorating. All around it has been very satisfactory to my parents."

"Riverside Lodge is wonderful. The apartments are big, the people are friendly, and the staff is marvelous. It is a great place. The food is excellent. They have musical programs and speakers. "

"Edgewood Vista in Grand Island provides excellent care to their residents. Their residents are alzheimer or dementia patients. Caring for someone with dementia takes a lot of heart, kindness, patience, etc. I admire every employee at Edgewood. The care they have given my father for more than two years now has been excellent. They also always treat me very very nicely and have been a help to me emotionally.. Edegewood is an excellent care facility."

"We are choosing Tabitha at Prairie Commons for my mother. I just was impressed with the people that were working there and the care that they could provide. I was also impressed with all of the facilities that she would have. The rooms were very nice. There were several different sizes. I think there are three sizes for each room. They've got a washer/dryer, and all the appliances - stove, refrigerator, microwave, and dishwasher. It was just very convenient. They brought a plate to my mom's home for her to try the food, and she said that it was very good. I'm a little burned out because of the delay in the opening. They haven't got a date yet to open, and it's been kind of tough."
