My brother was a resident for about a month on hospice care at this facility. I was in and out several times a week at different hours between the morning, afternoon, and evening. The staff was friendly, caring, and attentive to the residents needs. The residents seemed happy. They were able to get out of the rooms and socialize. The facility itself is a little older, but they are updating it. The rooms are decent sized. And there was never a smell of urine or any other foul Odor. The food was decent. When it came to my brother’s end of life, they made sure my needs were met as well. They brought me food and drinks, and they checked on me constantly to make sure I was OK while I stayed with my brother until he passed.

"potential residents should be aware of a substantial (house) fly problem in the spring and fall. The flies had an affection for going inside my smoke detector and sprinkler. One morning the staff killed 20 in my side of the room and 10 more a few days later. The therapy staff, out of Kentucky, was good but one day disappeared and were not replaced the rest of my time there. The administrator "sprang" B Wing allowing those who wander to roam freely, so I got a few visitors who came into my room to curse at me. The activities director departed and was not replaced before I left. I was left on a bedpan for 4 hours one night (pressed call light at 7:55 pm, got a response at 12:10 am). Food was OK, personal hygiene was maintained. Phone service is unreliable, phone lines were down for 2 to 3 weeks, so bring your own cell phone. At that time there was a high turnover in staff partly because the administrator, now gone, verbally chewed them out in the hallways where I, and others, could hear. I tried to get some to stay for the sake of the patients. In-facility office staff were not the brightest. The owners wanted it to become a psychiatric facility so many, like me, were relocated to another facility. That may be why they have so many vacancies."

Most of the staff really seemed to genuinely care about the residents at this facility, however, some did not. The facility appeared to be under staffed quite frequently. The residents did appear to be treated kindly and seemed happy at this facility. The staff that was there appeared to put forth extra effort to ensure their residents safety and happiness. The entire nursing staff seemed to work together most of the time I was able to observe their manners. Most of the residents there never seemed to express any discomfort about being there. However, there were a few that did not understand the circumstances they were in and why they were there at all. The staff there made the residents feel at home. The overall upkeep and maintenance of the facility seemed to be in check and working order. The residents with specific requirements were able to maintain all the equipment necessary.

I recently toured Georgian Gardens Nursing Center while looking for a nursing home to place my mother in. It is a good size facility with plenty of staffing, it seemed. There is a good size therapy staff that is contracted in. I was there around meal time and the food looked and smelled delicious. The residents really seemed to be enjoying it. From what I was told the facility has recently come under new ownership and they are remodeling the entire building. The remodeling is only partially done, but what is done looks absolutely beautiful. The owners are really going out of their way to make sure that the facility looks nice and modern. The rooms did seem a bit on the small side, but there are private rooms available. The only concern I had was the fact that quite a few of the nursing staff that I saw looked to be quite scraggly and a little unkempt and unprofessional. I ultimately decided against this nursing home, mainly because it was several hours away from where I live and I want to be close to my mother.
