I am a friend or relative of a current/past resident

My mom has been living here for over a year and loves the staff, activities and house. The house is very inviting and the staff is very focused on safety, cleanliness and fun to ensure each resident have a great daily experience. Thank you to Paul the supervisor and the staff who make each shift nice for our mom.

I visited this facility

I toured Sugarbush House #1. It was like three different houses. The one we went to has a lot of ramps and stuff in it. My mother uses a walker, so that wasn't going to be a good place for her at all. They said they have people that can help them and stuff. It was more like a group home. Each has a small bedroom, and then they would share a bathroom. It's just like an older home that has been modified. The staff who assisted me with the tour was nice.

I visited this facility

Sugarbush House #1 was a much older place, and it was not attractive at all. However, the staff, the young woman I talked to, and the people I saw interacting with the folks, I'd give them a five. Depending upon your lifestyle, your regular lifestyle, it could be very, very nice for some people. It used to be a great, big, white house, it was across the street which used to be in an area which was fabulous 20 or 30 years ago and things changed and the building that it was in. It just kind of overlooked a parking lot. They had a nice little deck out back for people to walk out onto. Aesthetically, it wasn't my type of place. The people appeared to do very, very well, the few residents that I saw there seemed to be happy. The staff seemed to be engaging. So that part of it was pretty good. It's just, it wasn't pretty enough. I saw someone's room and it was crowded with their stuff. They brought their things in and it was clean. It seemed to me they had a half bath in their room and then the shower was down the hall. So they must assist everybody with their showers and things, and I didn't like that.

I visited this facility

Sugarbush House #1 is like a private home back in an older neighborhood. The woman was very knowledgeable, she was kind. It's just not the place for my dad. I found the place dirty, I didn't like that being blind he would have to walk across the hall to find a bathroom that someone else was using also. I want my father to have his own private room and bathroom facilities. The residents were having lunch, it looks like they were having a very nice lunch. The woman who showed me the facility, she did not have any paperwork like I asked her, she just took me on the tour and talked. I took notes, and that was it. The outside had weeds all over that were coming through the cracks of the cement. I thought the room they showed me looked like it was dirty, it hadn't been updated, and I didn't like it at all.

Sugarbush is a wonderful place for your loved one to reside. Cleanliness is very important to me and this place is always very clean on any given day. The staff is very friendly and loving towards all of their residents. I love the personalization sugarbush offers their residents.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I love The Sugarbush House. I think there is five houses altogether. They are in the same neighborhood area. They are big houses, and all the residents have their own rooms. They have common areas like dining rooms and living areas. It is very homey. They are all houses, and there is a small amount of residents in each house. The house where my dad is only has six people. It is adult foster care and assisted living. Dad has his own room. It has a nice bedroom with a closet. There is a chair and a TV. They all have cable TV. They get three nice group meals a day and snacks. They have nurses that visit and check vital signs. It's just a very homey environment and not institutional. It's just very warm. It is literally a house. I just like Sugarbush better than the bigger facility because he doesn't do very well in big, institutional settings. So I prefer the smaller group home. Mostly it is just interacting with the people who work there and the other residents. They don't have any set group activities, but the relatives can come and visit and take the resident out whenever they want to. Most of the people have issues like Alzheimer's or some kind of help situation that requires them to need help, so they don't really go out and do a lot of things like that.

I am a friend or relative of a resident

I was desperate to find a high quality adult foster care/assisted living facility for my dad, from whom I lived 2,500 miles away. I found the Sugarbush House online (http://thesugarbushhouse.com/). It looked too good to be true. I asked some friends of my dad's to check it out for me and they immediately told me that he should move it. One of the homes was built by an associate of Frank Lloyd Wright. It is a Prairie Style home with 6,000 square feet for 6 residents. Some residents have not just a room (and bath) but a suite. The other house, right next door, looks like something out of House Beautiful. Jannine, the owner of the business, has incredible taste and makes sure that the homes are beautifully decorated all the time, but especially festive at holidays. My father moved in in June 2010. He was diabetic and had Alzheimer's. Jannine registered him with the home health agency that provides a visiting physician! Who knew that doctors make house calls these days? The agency also has portable x-ray equipment. This eliminated the need for my dad to run all over town to various doctors. Even the podiatrist came to the house. Meals were wonderful, served home style. Jannine served each resident's favorite meal on their birthday. My dad, whose 91st birthday would have been today, asked for turkey and all the fixings on his 90th birthday and Jannine made it. She invited some of his friends, and they had a birthday party, complete with gifts, a hat, etc. for my dad, his friends, and the other residents. She always made sure that my dad and all the residents were clean, had clean and stylish clothes, and had their hair done. The staff members could not be more gracious, caring, competent, and kind. They have video monitors in each room so that they can watch the residents at all hours. My father tried to get out of bed in the middle of the night, and when he did, he fell. Caregivers monitored his movements and were by his side before he had a chance to fall. During my dad's final days, caregivers took turns staying with him so that he wouldn't die alone. They kept me informed of his decreasing abilities. They made it possible for me to see and talk with him on Skype, which meant the world to me. My dad's memorial service was last week, and Jannine attended. I can't say enough good about her, the facilities, and her staff. They provided wonderful care to my father in his final year of life, much more than I could have done for him. They treated me so well, too! I'll never forget their kindness to my father and to me.
