"I like the private rooms in Brookdale Portage, because they have kitchenettes. It was very nicely appointed and very clean. I spoke to the people living there and they were all very complimentary; I didn't hear one complaint. But they almost didn't have outside areas to go visit when the weather is nice. They have almost nothing by way of gardens or paths to walk in. They do have some very nice lounges, dining areas, and common areas."

"We went to Maple Lake Assisted Living & Memory Care. The best thing was there was no smell, and it was very bright and cheery. They have a hair salon and activities seven days a week, so I was impressed. They also have a courtyard, which is very nice and very convenient. They also have places where you can get on a bus and go places together as an activity and stuff, which I was very impressed with."

"It was a decent place. The rooms and common areas are well cared for, and it's a nice place. It's just farther away than I would've liked. It's just too far away for people from the Kalamazoo, Vicksburg area to go there. The facilities and layout are good. They're organized in a square, and basically nobody can get out but you can go outside in the inner area. It's laid out that way, so they can contain the people inside without being able to get out."

"To me, Bickford of Battle Creek was a better place. They seemed to have more activities like church services, and the price was a lot cheaper. The rooms were set up differently, and the people and the staff were nice. It seemed nice and clean, but it was just kind of hollow, like it wasn't as homey as it should be. "

My mother was very content and actually called Briarwood home after she adjusted to her move. She calls the staff her little angels. "My friend has an excellent experience in Heritage. She's getting a lot of physical therapy, the nurses are good and the people are friendly. There's no smell in the place and it's very clean. Her room has two beds and closets and she's on the side where she can look out of the window. They had caring and courteous staff. "

"I was surprised how accommodating Friendship Village was. The staff was very helpful, warm, friendly and personal. I like their little kitchen. It's convenient. The food was very good. I was surprised how good it was. The dining area was nice. I think they have two, where the residents need assistance with their eating, and the one that I was in was a regular type dining room. There was a place where they could walk in the woods. I thought that was charming. "

"I toured Beacon Pointe Richland for my father-in-law. It's very nice, new, and clean. The room is very nice as well. The staff was all very friendly and pleasant to deal with. We looked at the menu and they had a wide variety of options. It was nice. I know laundry was available and so is the means to hand out medication daily. If people need assistance bathing, they have that facility too. If they're in a wheelchair, they can help them with that."

"Beacon Pointe was very nice, neat, and not confusing. The executive director was available, very accommodating, informative, and been great to work with. They're very flexible. They accommodate different kinds of diet. They have one dining area which is kind of like an everything room, so it's less confusing for people. The people seem well adjusted there. The place was also very clean."
