My favorite part about my stay here is the therapy. They are good and kind. The aides are very friendly and helpful. They are patient, “old ladies don’t move fast.” I’ve been in a lot of rehabs, here you are given the best attention out of all of them!

Now that I have my mother in a better nursing home, I can confidently say just how nasty Maplewood is, and to avoid this place at all costs. The whole place is disgusting. It has a strong smell of urine, and while I realize homes can have a smell, this was overwhelming, there are spills, and trash all over the place. There's nasty gunk on the walls and the furniture is dirty. Residents walk around dirty and as I was just watching interactions between staff and residents, I didn't like what I saw. They were impatient, irritated and at one point seemed to be aggressively moving one resident too quickly. You could see she was struggling to keep up. My mother was left in a soiled diaper for most of a day and was never bathed. When I brought this up to the nurse, she argued with me and gave me attitude whole lying and saying she did get changed. That diaper was old and full. She did not get changed. I asked about a care plan and pain management, and was told each time I asked, that they would call the doctor. She was there 3 days and I never once spoke with a doctor about their plan to care for my mom. Along with the compression fracture of her spine, she has alzheimers with vascular dementia and needs help with eating. They'd just leave her tray and she wouldn't eat on her own. The furniture is old and broken, and the place is just a mess. The whole place is just cold and unwelcoming. I hated having her there and went to tour another facility and I'm so glad I did. It was clean, smelled nice, the staff was so friendly and welcoming, and gave me so much information about the process to get my mom in there. I went to management at Maplewood and told them I wanted my mother moved to this new home and was told I shouldn't do that because that other place was closing, which was a lie. They also tried to tell me it wasn't a good place and they even had some of their employees working for Maplewood now. I told them to get working on my mother's transfer because I didn't want her there any longer than she had to be. They tried to get me to sign my mother out against medical advice, which would have completely messed up her Medicare. Everyone that was nice to us while we were trying to get her a spot here, was cold to me after I told them she's leaving. All the nurses and staff that had been cold to us before this, were now being super nice. It shouldn't take a threat of leaving to get proper care. This place just is sad, and I do NOT recommend anyone send their loved one here. You should also look up their lawsuits and ratings. The info is very telling. I will say the food was decent and the activities person was a sweetheart. Pt was also really friendly. There was one really nice nurse. Everyone else, not so much.

A Family member of mine was a resident at Maplewood rehab we were told he would never walk again he was too inconsistent and unstable it was too dangerous and was discouraged and not taken seriously when he said he would walk again and that most of the issue was due to the prosthetic being poorly made finally took him out of there got a new leg and he got right up and walked. As far as the staff both Tiffany's and Zoey and incredible and go above and beyond with the level of care they provide as well as being sincere and forming a bond with their patients. In the bathroom off his room there was almost never hand soap the portions of food they give them are too small and snacks aren't provided. They repromand the residents by taking away a privilege of some sort I've overheard this on a few occasions and I feel like they were being treated like children I do understand in cases with residents who are mentally below average or have different requirements that a system like that may need to be in place to keep a stable and safe environment but not everyone there needs things like that implemented if not nessarsy and may add to the real threat of depression.

This place I must say is very disappointing. I would NEVER under any circumstances leave my parents/grandparents in a place like this. They will not forgive you. Horrible management, RUDE employees! Horrible place!

had a friend passaway in there. Maplewood gave me and the friends brother a hard time. when we went to get friends belonging back they would not return his money and wallet that had his id"s and other things in wallet . if they do not give it back brother will press charges for larceny under $100.00 and theft of property. would not recommend that place .

My sister-in-law stayed at Maplewood Care in Elgin for almost a year and one-half. It is not the worst care facility but it was not the best either. Cleanliness was adequate and it never seemed overpopulated. On the plus side, the staff is very personal and knowledgeable about the residents. The visiting hours are generous. There are a few restaurants nearby, as well as a Walgreens and a Jewel. Staff was good with returning phone calls and responding to our questions and concerns. There was not a lot of activity for residents, but the ""special activities"" such as holiday parties were usually pretty good. They happened about once a month. They even had an Elvis singing at one party, encouraging residents to have a little fun and enjoy the moment. The bad? My sister-in-law by in large hated the food. She also had to really watch her stuff, as if it was put down unlocked for more than a minute, it often walked away.
