Our impression of Schowalter Villa so far has been very good. There were very few complaints and my mom's stay there is progressive. My mom is totally dependent and the staff transfers her to the walker. They only have private rooms there, there were no shared rooms. It's a very large community, and they have all kinds of activities for people with Parkinsons to dementia and every illness you could mention. They're the best ones in the area. In terms of the place's layout, they have expanded a lot. They're non-profit so I'm sure that they're just charging what they need to charge.

I picked Showalter Villa for my husband because they advertise expertise in memory care. My experience was they did not provide an environment that was good for a severely memory impaired resident. Something in the environment was frightening to my husband and he was frequently upset and afraid. Communication was average at best. Many times my calls were not returned. Staff did not report behavior problems with my husband even after I asked them to do so. Weekends they seem to be understaffed or the staff was inexperienced. I don't know how much of this is COVID related but at a price of about $9500 per month I expected more. The day I picked up my husband’s possessions and saw Showalter Villa in my rear view mirror was a good day.

My grandmother is at Schowalter Villa. It is a nice community. They have many activities for them to do. The staff is very friendly and take care of her needs. My grandmother’s room is small, but she has a bed, a chair, and a television and her own restroom, too. It is a nice room. They have two different kitchens: one is cafeteria-style, and the other one is like a family kitchen where family can come in and cook meals together.

This nursing facility is located in a rural community north of Newton, Kansas. I liked that when I attended the Governor's Conference on Aging, a break-out session was all about how the local college was doing internships and programming at this nursing home. That brings in an intergenerational component that can only be enriching for the residents and the students. The campus, itself, is very pretty and close to Botanical Gardens. It is family friendly and has good, quality food. Staffing is a strength here. There is a larger than average resident population, but care is good.

This is a wonderful facility, being a fairly new building it has all the latest technologies. Everything is kept very clean and nice. There are things to do and look at in the big lobby area which are near the cafeteria and ice cream shop. There is also a beauty salon and a gift shop. This Assisted living facility is unique because it is connected to a day care, each day a different day care class goes and does an activity with the residents. This is a wonderful intergenerational activity. This facility is great for things to do and kind people who take care of those living there.
