"We had an absolutely fantastic experience with Brookdale McPherson. My sister and I went to visit them, and we were just taken back by the facility, the people, and everything. We've got my mom moved in. She's adapting and doing well, and so we're very pleased. She has a small apartment that's got a little microwave, a mini fridge, and a little countertop (so she can have some of her own food and things that we bring for her). She has her little area that has a television and a loveseat. It's not huge (but it doesn't have to be), and what's nice about it, she can keep her door open, so when people go by, they can visit with her. She's getting a lot more interaction with other people than what she had before. She also has a nice walk-in shower in the bathroom, but they also have larger apartments that are for married couples. Their dining room is nice. They always have lemonade, tea, and ice water. People can come and get it. There's an area where people can come together and watch television. They do games, like Wheel of fortune type of games and puzzles. It is sort of like a square, and they have little areas in each of those corners. Then they've got an area in the center of it where you can go outside. They have so many nice people, and they're just so friendly. They are amazing. My mom is not someone who goes out to play some games and stuff, but they have gotten her out to do some different things and encourage her. So, there's plenty to do if she wants to do it."

"I've seen Country Place Senior Living Lyons. It's fine. Right now, it's full, but I've had a father-in-law living there. They're nice and very accommodating trying to get you in, but they're too expensive, and not everyone can afford that kind of a price. My father-in-law was there until he passed about three years ago. It was a good experience. He had a private one-bedroom suite. You bring in your own furniture. It's very nice, beautiful, and well cared for. Back then, the staff was very good and took good care of him. I don't know now, but I don't hear anybody complain. A friend's mother is in there right now, and she's very pleased, so I'm sure that the staff is still just as good now as it was then. They had so many activities. They would do fireworks on the Fourth of July. They would do movie night, and they had a big patio out there. They would have ice-cream socials a lot, they celebrated each individual’s birthday, and they would have holidays like a Thanksgiving dinner. They would make it very nice, and they opened it up for all the families who wanted to come, and it was beautiful. They made it very fancy and very classy. They would have a lot of different schools and programs come in and perform for them. They would host Chamber Coffees, so people would come and do coffee, and they would have ice-cream-and-pie socials. They would open it up to the whole town, so people would come in and sit with the residents and do that. They would have exercise activities, bingo, and all kinds of activities and things going on for the residents in there all the time. My father-in-law had some problems with the food, but most of the time, they seemed to do a pretty good job with cooking."

"My brother moved into Good Samaritan Society – Lyons. They're very good over there and take good care of him. It's a very good place, and my brother has adjusted very well. My brother is in a lockdown unit because he tries to get away from them. Right outside, they have a courtyard where my brother can go out and sit, and he enjoys that. They have church services. The staff is very friendly. The food is very good and they will let me go in and eat with my brother for free once a day."

"My mom is in Drover's Cottage, a part of the Good Samaritan Retirement Village. I chose it because I live in Ellsworth, and it is 15 miles from where she lives. They have good and very friendly staff. They are very caring. Her room is super nice. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and huge walk-in closets in both bedrooms. The food is not too bad. There is always room for improvement. They serve their meals from the nursing home, so that causes it to be a little bit bland for the people that lives at Drover's. They have activities. They have kids come out one night a week. They play bingo, and they have a church group that comes out. They have independent living, assisted living, and duplexes which they call cottages which are little houses that people can live in and all those people come together and have a meal once a month. They have a Christmas dinner. Some of the people play cards or do things out in the main area, but the new director is trying to have more activities for them. They also have bible study in the Church out there too. The nice thing about this place too is that they have laundry service, and they clean the apartment once a month. The laundry service is really nice because my mom uses the laundry service. They have a washer & dryer inside the apartment, but the laundry service for an extra fee is worth it. They have garages too that you can use for storage or park your car. It is also the closest to her home where her friends can visit her, and it is a very nice place. "

"My father was there for about six months before he passed away. His care was outstanding and the food was awesome. They take special requests and made his food the way he wanted. He loved working on his own art projects and woodworking projects while there. I would highly recommend this nursing home and the staff that work there! "

"My father lives at Bethany Home right now. He used to live in Lindsborg, and he would like to stay in that community. They're a little bit more isolated and don't have quite as much interaction, but there is family around there. He still can drive and get out and about. One of the ladies who works there used to be an employee of my brother, so we're all comfortable that she's working there. He's familiar with that area and it's kind of hard to change a leopard's spots. He lives in the cottages, which is independent living next to the nursing home. They built an assisted living place outside of town. It seemed to be really clean. The rooms had the shower that you could get into easily and a little combination bedroom, living room area and adequate closet space. The cottages are a little bit bigger."
