My mom is in Drover's Cottage, a part of the Good Samaritan Retirement Village. I chose it because I live in Ellsworth, and it is 15 miles from where she lives. They have good and very friendly staff. They are very caring. Her room is super nice. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, and huge walk-in closets in both bedrooms. The food is not too bad. There is always room for improvement. They serve their meals from the nursing home, so that causes it to be a little bit bland for the people that lives at Drover's. They have activities. They have kids come out one night a week. They play bingo, and they have a church group that comes out. They have independent living, assisted living, and duplexes which they call cottages which are little houses that people can live in and all those people come together and have a meal once a month. They have a Christmas dinner. Some of the people play cards or do things out in the main area, but the new director is trying to have more activities for them. They also have bible study in the Church out there too. The nice thing about this place too is that they have laundry service, and they clean the apartment once a month. The laundry service is really nice because my mom uses the laundry service. They have a washer & dryer inside the apartment, but the laundry service for an extra fee is worth it. They have garages too that you can use for storage or park your car. It is also the closest to her home where her friends can visit her, and it is a very nice place.

Nice facility but.... Did not provide the assistance my family was paying for. Left my grandma up all night all the time instead of giving her needed assistance getting ready for bed. Did not help her with daily hygiene and skipped her showers. I suspect they were not administering her medications correctly, if at all, as she did a complete downward spiral in a month. Staff spends most of their time working on crafts for themselves or sitting on the internet instead of helping the residents. No activities provided for residents, although staff has more than enough time to do things with the residents, but they chose not to do anything but sit in their office. We are sad that we made the mistake of trusting her care to this place, as it turned out very badly for her and I doubt she will ever get back to any semblance of her level of health prior to entering this facility. They need to hire staff that actually cares and has enough of a conscious to do no harm. Close this place.

We know some of the people working at The Good Samaritan Society that is why we placed my mother-in-law there. They just re-did the place. They have a nice big lobby for socializing. They have like a big cage that has some birds in there. Their rooms have bay windows and they are of good size. They also have a room that family can use, wherein they can come in and you can sit around and talk, order foods and eat in there if you want. Their dining hall is not sectioned so that everybody eats the same thing. You can order what you want from their menu. My wife said the food there is pretty good. The best thing about this facility was their staff, they are all super friendly and they know what they're doing.
