"I toured Park View Villas. I was very impressed, and the cost seemed reasonable for what I was getting. It was close enough that my family could come visit me, and that's the most important thing to me. I like the overall appearance and feel. Everybody seemed to be enjoying themselves. The staff who gave the tour was very polite and informative."

"I visited the Regency on Whidbey. It's essentially like a fancy hotel. My first impression was that it is very nice. It's nicely appointed, it's clean and appeared to be fairly new and had that kind of an expensive aura. The staff was very friendly, very helpful, and showed me everything I needed to see. They were playing bingo in one room, and some people were watching a movie in the theater. The dining area was very nice and they had two chefs. And they had a menu posted that looked very nice."

"We're in the process of moving our mother into Harbor Tower Village. We chose it because it was probably a little bit cheaper. The facility seemed very nice and very clean, and the rooms seemed adequate in size. It was a very nicely laid out central courtyard. It's a circle, so no one can get lost. The rooms were laid out nice. The dining area was very nice and had huge windows, so you could see outside. It was not a closed in feeling. The living atmosphere was very good. The staff seemed very pleasant."

"I will be moving into The Fifth Avenue. The thing I liked most about it was that my apartment was close to the activities at the center, so it would make it convenient for me to be able to join things. The apartments were very clean and very neat. Mine was a little smaller than I would have liked, but the only other one that was available was way down at the end of a long corridor, and I didn't want that. All the staff who assisted me were very, very pleasant, very nice, and very knowledgeable. I had 3 or 4 because I kept going back to look. So far, it's been a delightful experience. They had concerts, card games, a puzzle room, a library, lectures, and social hours."

"Vintage at Sequim was very clean, and it was very nice to walk down the halls there. It's very pleasant and quiet. The paint was nice. Everything's finished. The apartments are all redone pretty much when somebody moves out, so you get probably a new carpet and fresh paint if it's needed. They just go over everything and make sure everything works. The maintenance crew seems to be pretty good, from what I could tell, just walking through. They have some lovely rooms and a lovely dining area, which is for the family to use. If you want your loved ones to eat with you and you don't have room in your apartment, then that's a good way to go. I just was impressed with the building, and the apartments were very nice. I have requested that I get an apartment on the quiet side. It's just a two-sided building. There are apartments down a hallway on either side and one of the streets, Washington Street, is quite busy. Every apartment does have an outdoor space whether it be a patio or a balcony. You can get a washer and dryer and pay a little extra a month for it in your unit. If you don't care to do that, then there are laundry rooms on each floor. I like the fact that the kitchen's a full kitchen. It had a full-size stove and range, a built-in microwave, and a dishwasher. It's a very, very nice kitchen with a little more space than I have right now, which is ideal. There are more two-bedrooms than one- bedrooms. One-bedrooms are very, very hard to come by, so I am going to probably select a two-bedroom when I am able to move in if I end up there. It's very nice and Sequim is a nice town. There are a lot of retired folks there. If you're into duplicate bridge, there is a duplicate bridge game going on at least once a week there. You're kind of in-between Port Angeles and Port Townsend. Port Townsend is a lovely touristy town and Port Angeles is a good town because if you want to take the ferry across to Victoria, that's where you go to do that. It's a decent town, too. There's a lot less rain in Sequim than there is in Seattle, that's why it's popular with retired folks retiring there. It's lovely. The outdoors and the property itself are well-maintained, and there's a code to get in so people just can't walk in off the street. It just seems like a nice place to live. I haven't met any of the residents, but I like the manager quite well. She seems to do a very good job. It's a tough job with 118 units for one person to manage, but she does it. I've been there a couple of times and I've toured the apartments and some of the other amenities there. There's a pool room, a library, and a movie room, and it looked like they were comfortable seats. There are a lot of things that the residents themselves put together because this is an independent living and not a community where they offer activities or any of that stuff. I think that a lot of the residents get together for cards or mahjong or whatever. I've only interacted with the manager and I've seen the maintenance crew. The only problem with the layout is that there's a single elevator and there are three floors. Because it's 118 units, some of those units are a long way from the elevator and it is senior residents. It seems to me they should have probably added another elevator somewhere so that people don't have to walk far to get to the elevator."

"Parkwood is an over fifty-five manufactured home community. The facility has a nice community building where the residents can participate in scheduled activities, they can request the facility for a private gathering also. The landscaping is nice. It is heavily treed and well landscaped. The property is maintained constantly. To reside there you have to fill out an application and be accepted. The rent does go up every year. It goes up the same percentage as social security. Which is really rotten for the residents. The ones with limited incomes can't ever get ahead. Neighbors can be petty though and if they don't like something in a persons yard they can complain to the management and potentially have the person remove or change what was complained about. My mother has been the recipient of this a few times. In addition, If a resident wishes to paint their home the colors they are choosing must be accepted by the management. The rules seem to strict. "
