"It was beautiful. It was a very nice community. They had a very beautiful studio apartment that I was interested in, but I couldn't get my things together in time to get that apartment. The Crossings at Oakbrooke was very friendly, and they seemed to have a lot of activities. I like that they had increased care, especially for memory care. They have a full calendar of options and activities. They go on outings, they have exercise time, and they have church meetings available in the building too. The community is brand new and the location is good. The price is competitive with everybody else. I had a meal there, and the food was good. The administrator took me around. He was knowledgeable and had a good understanding of the place. Everything was nice."

"I visited The Talbot on Granby, and it's a very nice place. It offered two meals a day and had a very strong, caring nursing staff. It was right next door to a hospital. They had a salon but not an indoor pool. They had a good variety of activities."

"I toured Willow Creek Gracious Retirement Living. It was easily accessible. It was a very beautiful environment, and the staff was very accommodating and very pleasant. It was beautifully staged, and the physical facilities were very, very attractive. I saw some of the folks that were there participating in the activities, and they were very welcoming."

"The residents of The Chamberlin were fantastic. One of them showed me around after the tour. She was very nice and talked about herself and stuff. It was just nice that she wanted me to do that. She didn't know I was coming or anything like that. She was going somewhere else. She said, "Are you thinking about coming here?" She asked questions about my grandma. I liked that they have an indoor pool. They have this beautiful terrace that overlooks the water. They have a lot of activities. I saw them playing charades when I came. They were very accommodating. When I walked in, I buzzed in, and they asked me who I was. When I said my name and the point of contact that I had in my phone, someone came down, got me, brought me up, and showed me around."

"We toured Harmony at Harbour View. The staff seemed to be very, very nice. It's a very new facility. It looks about five or six years old. They're less expensive. We didn't eat any food, we just toured the place and the facilities. The staff was good and seemed to be busy and taking care of the patients."

"I decided to go to Silver Hill at Great Neck. The rent seems reasonable. They said they're renovating every apartment and mine is one of them that they're in the process of renovating, and it looks and nice. The manager was awesome. She was very professional but extremely nice. I couldn't say anything negative. There's a refrigerator, a microwave, and a stove oven. There's a nice-sized closet. I'm hoping that will be enough to get everything in there. It seemed like a good choice. Also, there are two sets of washers and dryers on each floor, which I thought was pretty cool. The manager was great. She was very kind. I felt very comfortable even though I was nervous. But it was a good experience. It seemed very clean."

"I toured Atlantic Shores. It's a welcoming experience. I thought the facilities were very well kept. The people that I met seemed very happy and engaged. They were very friendly. It's a very warm place. In the apartment, there's no furniture included. You supply your own furniture, but it's very up-to-date and clean. It looked brand new. The bedroom was carpeted. The dining area was a restaurant type. They have three restaurants, and you choose from a menu. The food was excellent. They prepare your meals for you. You don't just eat what you serve. You select from a menu."

"This is a fabulous faith-based community with a wonderful foundation that helps people come in (if they qualify and can't afford it) and keep the residents here with 5-star healthcare, even if they run out of money at no fault of their own. Everyone is busy and happy. We moved here from out of state and it took us a long time to find it but it was the best decision ever -- and what a gift to our kids who will never have to take us in or put us someplace where we don't want to be. We are ecstatic about living here!!! It is not more expensive than other places, if you consider what you are getting -- including top notch medical care for the rest of your life with few added costs over what you pay in your Independent Living apartment."

"The Muse At Town Center was nice, it was a little more expensive than the others I've seen. The people that we've met were very nice and very helpful. It was clean and the apartments were nice. It was a good community. They had activities, they also do trips to Wal-Mart and they would go out to eat every so often. They had a game room and they had exercise equipment."

"I visit my former neighbor who lives in memory care at Bay Lake. He enjoys the activities. I like to sit with him outside where he can see the baseball park behind the community. The staff seems to know him personally and care about him individually, this was important to his daughter when she was looking for memory care for her dad. "

"Haygood Halls is at a tremendous location. It’s right across the street from the Methodist church, and quarter of a block from the local fire station and ambulance squad. It has a shopping center right across the street that’s a little closer to the other street. There are restaurants, stores and a grocery store. The facility is very attractive from the outside, and I liked what it offers as it pays for everything including your telephone, computer and your cable TV. Right now, that’s a huge savings for me. It has a trash pick-up right from the door, twice a week. They also deliver my meals, so I don’t have to go anywhere to get my meal. The maintenance department will put things up for you if you want them to. There are a lot of handles around the tub and the tub is very low, so it’s easy to step into. They also put handles on the front doors and I can push my walker in the foyer, grab the two handles at either side of the front door, and help myself in. The rooms are large with a washer and dryer hook-up, and have pretty adequate storage, I didn’t expect a lot, so I feel comfortable with what’s there. They have a clubhouse, and they have a couple of big activities a month, like pizza parties. You can also rent a space for your own personal use. They have put in a dog park on their property. They have a beautiful pool, and it’s in the center of the buildings that are build around it and that is very attractive. There is plenty of lounging around the pool. The people in the office that I have met are just as warm and friendly as they can be. I think that the quality of my life is going to be much improved because I’m going to have a lot of people to talk to and to be with, and it’s certainly going to be easier for me to live in a smaller area. I believe there is a fairly long counter and some cabinets above the counters, so I can always put things that I usually keep in my kitchen cabinets and in a closet that is off the laundry. I have a little patio at the back that I can go out to. I feel that everything seems more secure and the price is right. I’m really excited and when I finally was ready to make the decision, it was like somebody switched on a light. They were able to show me one of the apartments that I didn’t see last August when I went, and I was delighted to see what was in the apartments. They also have two poles for help; one is in the bathroom, and there’s another one for intruders. Iif you hear somebody messing with your door, you pull the other and that’s in the bedroom, I believe, and that was a plus. "

"My tour with Lynnhaven Cove went very well. It appears to be very well taken care of. It was the cheapest of all of the places that I toured. There's a maximum income that you can earn to live there, but I just liked it very much. It has a garden where you can plant stuff in. The staff was very helpful and very nice. I've met two different people (one of them was the girl who helped me register). The process was very, very fast and seamless. I tried to apply at a couple of other places, and you had to gather together a lot of paperwork and tax returns and pay stubs and all that kind of stuff. So, it was kind of tedious. The facility was very clean. They have a rec room with a piano and all kinds of amenities."
