"Solista Roseburg (New name for Garden Valley) is an independent living facility that provides housekeeping, meals, and some transportation. It is a four story building with one elevator and is currently undergoing a renovation of the public spaces. The apartments range from a single room to two bedrooms and are unfurnsihed. They are equipped with cable TV service (Optional for an extra fee). Meal times are fixed, with generally good food! Meals are served restaurant style, with usually three courses. Vegetarian meals are offered. The facility has been undergoing a major rennovation for the past several months! Lots of fresh paint in the common areas. and repainting of empty apartments. New flooring and, of course a complete disruption of the activity areas. It is supposed to be "finished" in October! The Solista library is currently somewhere in hiding! The staff is very helpful and well trained. There are staff "on duty" from at least 8 am until 7 pm. There are no night staff on site but there are "on call" staff who can be onsite rapidly. All residents are provided with an "emergency call" button and paramedic response is usually very quick, arrivng in as short as a few minutes. The facility model is "independent living" so activities can appear to be somewhat limited - three or four activities per day. Round trip bus transportation for shopping, doctor visits, etc. is avalable at least 20 hours a week. A new management company has just taken over (August 1. 2024) , but retained most of the old staff. Costs are about average for the area."

"We liked Riverview Terrace. It was very clean, updated, and we felt like Reagan, the gal that we visited with and who took us to show the rooms, was very attentive and had a great personality. We liked her. Their one-bedroom was nice and they had a calendar with all kinds of activities. They had a community kitchen, laundry room, and a lot of nice amenities. We liked that they had guest rooms. So, if dad wanted to have any of his children or grandchildren come visit him, they would have a place to stay. The lobby area was big and open, and they also had a little cocktail lounge area with a piano that the family could come to. We really liked the indoor dining, as well the outdoor dining area that overlooks the river. I was really impressed with that. The hallways were wide, well-lit, and open. There were indoor activity rooms that had a quite extensive schedule, as well as the transportation available to get to and from grocery stores. The parking seemed adequate. We looked at several places in Roseburg and he liked this one the best."

"I toured Bridgewood Rivers Assisted Living. They offer assisted living, but I'm looking for independent living, so I would prefer to be in an area where there are more alert patients instead of confused ones. They were excellent, clean, very cooperative, and had very nice rooms. However, they have several air purifiers in every corridor, so that tells me they're trying to keep the odors down. The air purifiers were donated to them, too, so I wonder why somebody would donate air purifiers if they didn't have an odor."

"Linus Oakes Retirement Village doesn't have any care facility. When somebody moves out of one of the apartment-style or the cottage style units, they renovate it and they do the necessary improvements like if they have to replace carpets or linoleum, they do it. They fill in any kind of holes when people put up pictures on the wall. They go completely through it and paint it, and it's like a brand new apartment when you take it over yourself. The staff were very nice. The two girls that run it are very nice. All of the staff are nice. I was very impressed with the college kids that do the serving at dinner. They talk to people, and they use their names. They've already learned the names of the residents. Very impressive. They have exercise equipment, they have an inhouse lady for hairdressing, they have a workshop for men if they are interested in going out to a woodshop to work, and they have busses that go to town twice a week for prescriptions or groceries or whatever you need. You don't need groceries because they serve three meals a day, but some people choose special things if they want to buy or if they want juice in the morning or something like that. They have cottages that are not in a hotel style. They're right down on the main road. You could park within 10 feet of your door, and you have a back porch, and you feel quite independent. The facility was very nice and very clean. Their rooms are bigger."

"Today I held an activity at forest glen I was very moved with how kind all the staff was especially the kitchen staff. I stayed for lunch and was so impressed with how good the food was!! I can eat a lot but I couldn't finish my meal. There was so much food on my plate. The entire downstairs smelled like fresh bread baking which was coming from the kitchen. The chef was very nice lady and serving staff was very attentive and kind. I visit 5 different states working in retirement community and this was the best lunch I've ever eaten in a retirement community. The activities director was very involved with residents. I was very impressed with my visit/activity today!!! I met some wonderful residents and would definitely place a loved one here!!! "
