"I lived 400 miles from the facility but my brother and sister live local and had full responsibility for the care of our Dad. This was the 3rd place our Dad was at and, after several years, it proved to be the best hands down! The only hard part for me was trying to get through to my Dad on the phone. In the end when he could no longer hold the phone, and I did get through, a care giver was kind enough to hold it to his ear while we talked. The staff were constantly busy keeping to the schedule and I never saw a frown on any face."

"I toured StoryPoint Schererville. They have good activities. Very friendly accommodations. Everything was perfect, except that the rooms were too small. The one-bedroom rooms are very small. The staff is excellent."

"This is a wonderful campus with independent living in one or two bedroom apartments. This community is faith based and my parents have really enjoyed settling in to this place and it felt like home to them immediately. They travelled to Florida recently but could not wait to get back "home". They enjoy the food and the fellowship with other residents and are proud of their apartment and allow it to be showed to prospective clients at any time. My siblings and I have piece of mind that our parents are safe and are well cared for. There are other services on this campus including assisted living and skilled care if their needs change. I would highly recommend Victorian Village!. "

"My grandmother currently lives in Marian Village. She enjoys it. She is in independent living right now. She enjoys the social interaction with the community events and activities and such. She is active with the chapel there, and the services for the community three times a week. She is also on a few planning committee things for the residents there. I found the staff to be friendly."

"The rooms at Victory Centre of South Chicago were very nice, clean, and had a nice view. The heat was ample. They had a ping-pong table, a pool table, games, television, and stretching exercises. The food was ample and scheduled, but you can always have soup or something else, and that was readily available for eight to 10 hours. The staff was excellent in explaining everything."

"Franciscan Village was fine, but they didn’t really seem like they were all on top of trying to get a hole of somebody to get the information, so that was a little difficult. But I think they help us as much as they could. It’s very clean, very bright, and lots of activities going on. That was difficulty a good choice. My aunt said she didn’t like the food, but there were a couple of choices every day. The staff was very patient and caring. "

"Bickford of Bourbonnais was very nice. There’s a garden area where the residents could take a little section to plant things like tomatoes and flowers. The rooms were clean, and the staff was nice. "

"I loved the spacious apartments in StoryPoint Romeoville. I am in a wheelchair. They were very accessible to me, unlike other places. They do not have a swimming pool, but they have current pools (which I think I will be using extensively). I like that they have underground parking. I really liked that place. I didn't like the fact that it didn't have a lot of shade trees. All the trees were young. Aside from that, it met all my criteria. The rooms have appliances. The washer/dryer is in a common area. They did not offer us a meal, but they gifted us a box of cookies. The staff who gave me the tour was very good. She followed up with me and offered me a trial stay for two weeks in December."

"Solstice Senior Living at Joliet was very clean and the people seemed to be genuine and friendly. There seemed to be a lot for the seniors to do there. The dining room was nice and the rooms were very nice, and they feed them three meals a day. The only thing that my mom was a little hesitant about was because there was not a place where she could cook for herself if she wanted to. There seemed to be a lot to do there. They have activities going on quite a bit, and they have things going on in the evenings, which I think if my parents were interested, there was something for them to do the majority of the time. They had a pool table, they had puzzles you could do all the time, they had games, cocktails, and things in the evening. The menu seemed like it was pretty good, but I didn't taste it. The staff was very friendly, they seemed to be very engaged with the people. The facilities were very clean."

"The British Home (Cantata Adult Life Services) is very well-maintained on the interior. It's very well-organized and clean. The staff was exceptional in getting my aunt placed there. The food is acceptable. They have a beauty parlor, interactive sessions, arts and crafts, and outings."

"I toured Timbers of Shorewood for my grandmother. They had a lot of activities, like bingo, puzzles, poker, and movie nights. Food was not included in the price, so you have to buy a separate meal plan. They had studio apartments, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments. The sizes were nice. They had two different sizes for the one-bedroom apartment. I tried the food and it was OK. They had a physical therapy room and a garden."

"We went to American House Cedarlake and if it hadn't been for the price, I would probably have chosen American House. American House is really on the expensive side for Mom because her finances are not that great. It was a little too much, although we liked it. It was actually our favorite, but the money was a big stumbling block. We got to see both independent and assisted living when we went there. We really like the way everything was set up for the residents. We like the way their meals were done. They had a structured menu, and they had a more lenient time schedule for their meals. Say that you had somebody in assisted living that had therapy or whatever and they can't come to lunch until whatever time, you could go down and eat at that time. They have longer periods for breakfast and longer periods for lunch and dinner. It was just really nice with that stuff. Their apartments were well appointed. We really like the way they had things set up and the people there seemed really nice. The only drawback for them was their pricing was a little too steep for Mom at this time. They seemed outstanding when we were there. We really liked that place. The staff are all very nice and welcoming. Covid still screwed things up, but they really went out of their way to try and show us the best they could. They showed us the facility as much in its entirety as they were allowed, since they don't want you coming in contact with the residents. It was a restricted tour still but a very good one at the same time. We didn't have any food. We weren't allowed to eat there, but they gave us an apple pie to bring home and the apple pie was very, very good. One thing that I like is that if the person is capable, they have some rooms that have washers and dryers in them. They could do their own laundry if they wanted and they didn't have to go out into the general hallway and share a washer and dryer. That was really nice. Some of the apartments came with that if you're capable of doing it and wanted to do it yourself. I like that. Also they seemed to have a little bit better access for tubs and toilets and stuff. We thought their access to those was really good for seniors."
