Independent Living Communities in Orange, CA

"We haven't actually started having mom go there, but it is very reasonably priced, and it did have a lot of different services to offer. They have everything from independent living to skilled nursing, they have a clinic on site, and there are just a lot of nice options and activities and things. It was transitioned recently; it was Quaker Gardens before, and now it's Rowntree Gardens. They were making a lot of remodeling and are just finishing up the remodeling that they were doing, but I would say it is very attractive and has a lot of open space. They do have a bus that goes around to different places like the grocery store and drug store, and they have some outings, but then they have activities on the campus too. I know they have a big Fourth of July celebration and others, but I can't remember exactly. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. I was primarily looking for memory care and -- as I have seen in other places -- the people in the memory care were just further down the road than my mother was and mostly were not able to do anything. The main thing that stood out was this place has a lot of people that are up and having conversations, so there are a lot more different levels. I hope it will work. "

"I am fairly new here, and I just want to say how much I love being here and appreciate everything they do. Especially, the servers in the dining room. It has been so hard during this time of Covid, but it's nice to have everyone here to care about me and be here for me."

"They seem OK. The people seem pretty helpful. My dad is still settling in but the experience so far has been very positive. There are a lot of helpful people and the community itself is fairly vibrant. There seems to have a lot of activities and things going on for the residents. His room is fairly spacious, clean, well-lit, and easy to get to. So, it is very nice. They have a large central area, a library, a gym, an outdoor patio, game rooms, and a lot of different areas that people can gather."

"We went to Westmont of Cypress. It was gorgeous. It's a brand-new community. One thing that I would have liked better is even though it was a shared room, it would have more of an individual bedroom, but it was way more expensive. What I didn't like also was the staff didn't seem as engaged. This was in the memory care section, and they didn't have a lot of room for Mom to walk around. She loves to go for walks and there was just a patio, so I didn't think that was appropriate, and there was a waiting list to get into the shared room. The person who took us on the tour was nice, but I was able to witness their activities director and she just seemed bored. They were doing a history lesson where they were talking about this day in history. She didn't seem all that engaging, like when I compared her to the activities director at the other place who's very excited to be with the residents. This person, it just seems like it's a job. She didn't care that much. They said they took them on walks but it's all street parking lot, so I don't know where they take them on walks."

"It is a very good place. The staff is very helpful and caring, and there are many activities to participate in during the day. The place is very clean, and I'm glad that I've found a place for my mother. Mom's room is spacious. "

"I moved to Carmel Village Retirement Community. It appealed to me that the people were very nice. The facility is nice. Everything seemed okay. My apartment is spacious, it's clean, it's well cared for, and I have a nice view of trees. The food is palatable, it's fine, and there are no problems with it."

"It has been a positive experience with Artesia Christian Home for the most part. My mom's room is pretty nice. It's a 1-bedroom with a full bath and kitchenette. The facility is also pretty nice and above average. They have a lot of activities for the residents, and the food is pretty good. The place is really clean and it's been kept up really well. They have nice furniture in the lounging areas."

"My mother was in here for about two months, and we were very pleased. It was a beautiful facility, and the staff was very caring. She had escort everywhere she went; all she had to do was push a button, and she had help. They had a lot of fine activities that she enjoyed, and the food was outstanding. I can't say anything bad about it. The food was outstanding every time I ate there, and my mother loved it. There was more than enough, and she had many choices. The dining room was beautifully laid out, and the building itself was nicely laid out. Her apartment was just across the hall from an elevator. My mom was 98 years and moved very slow with a walker, so it was very convenient. "

"We have trusted the care of the Oakmont staff in Memory care with our Mom since they opened in the summer of 2019. I can't speak highly enough about the loving care of the staff members. Handing our Mom over to the care of "strangers" was a very scary thing...and since day one, I continue to feel they are not strangers, but Angels for all they do. Communication with team members, has continued to give me peace of mind, that Mom is loved and cared for."

"I thought the moving my dad in was going to be hard just because its a new environment but my dad adapted very well and that was because the staff welcomed him with open arms as if they had already met him before. I've gone everyday since then to visit him and he just seems so happy being there. I'm glad i made this move where not only is my dad happy but i'm happy and comfortable with him being there."

"Seems to be a lovely facility. Nice rooms, plenty of planned activities and events, and additional "common rooms" on the various floors with puzzles, games, computers, etc. Dining hall is very nice and the food is quite good. Nice little cafe and outdoor sitting area. Staff is very kind and helpful. "

"I toured and they had the most amenities out of the places I visited. They had the option of having care coming in versus having to take somebody out. They had little trips going to different places, and they have a facility there for parking your car if you wanted to -- if you're still in that mode. It just seemed like they had different things that would have been going on were it not for COVID; those kinds of things are very important for older people. The staff were very nice. You can make the apartments your own, and if you really needed, you could borrow from them if you didn't have the right size -- like my couch would not fit in there. They don't seem to provide any kind of cooking facility inside the room. They had a small refrigerator. I could see the people interacting with each other in a really nice manner. One staff member was able to kind of tease back and forth while talking about what they were doing that day. It was just kind of nice watching the interaction between the staff and the clientele there. I rate them highly because of the overall appearance, the camaraderie between the staff and the clientele, and the amenities that were offered there. It was a country-living kind of place. There were places out there where you could walk along the sidewalks or on small trails. It wasn't in woods or anything; it just had more of a country feel to it, and that appealed to me."

"I went to Park View Place. The apartment has huge, huge doors. They had stoves. It was an inductive stove. They had a bedroom and a living room. There was a nice bathroom. All of them have walk-in showers. It had a shower seat, one of the teakwood or whatever it is, shower seats. They had a restaurant. We ate there. They had tablecloths and silver service. It was upscale and elegant. The dining room chairs are like what you would have in your house. The furnishings were a little more upscale. The decor that they decided on at Parkview was different but still new."
