Brookdale Urbana was fantastic. I would have gone there in a heartbeat. It was great. It's just they didn't think my husband was ready for what they've got going. They thought he was farther along in his Alzheimer's and what their patients were. But they were very nice and I don't have any complaints. I would give them a great rating because their place is beautiful. The community was beautiful. It looked like a nice quiet updated community. The building itself was beautiful. Even on the inside, there are different places for different people. There are places where they eat. And outside their door, they have a place where if you were in the Army, you could have a few things in there with your picture to show that you were an Army vet. A lot of the patients I saw walked around with a walker, but they seemed to talk more than my husband did. I was impressed with their cleanliness and the kind of people that were there. They were dressed the same as we are, so that's normal. I was kind of disappointed, but it is a little pricey for my range anyway so that just made me not be so mad about not getting in there. It is a huge place, so I'm not sure that would have been such a good idea anyway, because my husband is used to more homelike things. It was pretty and everything looked well taken care of. The carpets were clean, and the windows were clean, you could see out of them. I was just impressed with the cleanliness and the friendliness of the other patients as I was walking through. The girl that I talked to was great. She was very informative and very gentle. The people were very kind and considerate. They were excellent, too, and it showed that they liked their job.

Brookdale Urbana was depressing. The residents had just such a poor quality of life. They're like sitting in their wheelchairs, waiting for the dining room. It's just depressing. The staff who accommodated us were very nice, very accommodating, and happy to show me around and tell me all about the facility. They showed us the dining room and they showed us the room where my parents would stay. They also showed us the courtyard and the beauty salon. The room was like a room, a closet, and a bathroom. The place was very nice and very beautiful. They had a place where they could go outside. I didn't see anyone out there, but it was a very hot day. It was a very nice place.

I visited Brookdale Urbana. The staff was great. The rooms were small, smaller than I had anticipated. I really like the staff. I just didn't feel it was appropriate for my mother at this point. Overall, we did not feel that it was appropriate for my mother at this time. The assisted living, that might be fine, but the memory care, I didn't think it was what we wanted at this time.

Brookdale Urbana was average. It's an older facility. We didn't interact with anybody there. It looked like they had the basics. I wasn't real impressed with the outside space because I think that my relative would enjoy going for walks and there wasn't an option there. They have a porch to sit on and they have a really small garden area, but it's not conducive for walking around and getting a nice 15 to 20-minute walk. That wasn't too great. They had a dining room. The staff that we met was very cordial and the woman that we interviewed was very informative. I don't know if my relative felt comfortable with the living conditions there or not.

The staff at Brookdale Urbana was very friendly. The outside was really nice and newer. The main lobby area was really nice. However, when we went into the memory care area, it was more nursing home looking. It was just stark and not very homey. The main common area where they watch TV wasn't very big. I didn't like that the advanced patients were with the less advanced patients that are more social. The staff was very nice and answered all of our questions. The lobby was very nice, and I was impressed. Then when you go in the doors where the patients are, I would say it's a 2. I suggest that the common area in the memory care (where all of the patients come out and visit with each other) have a more warm and homey feeling. It also needs to be a little bigger.

I visited Brookdale Urbana and had seen many of their stuff. It was a nice place, but at this time my mom is not able to stand, and that was the biggest thing. The community was nice. The people were caring and everything. The place was clean. I myself had gone there looking for a job, so I knew what it looked like before I even went there for a tour. It's a nice place. At that time, when I went there, I didn't really know about their activities because it was in the early part of the day, around breakfast hour, where they were getting them up and getting them ready to go in for breakfast. I didn't see the activity part. Pretty much, I didn't get to see all of the place. I just got to see where their receptionist was and how some of the rooms were in different halls. I had seen some residents walking around, and they were clean and dressed for breakfast. It was nice, but I didn't get to see everything. The place was nice. The staff explained everything. They were in uniform and they were doing their jobs.

Brookdale Urbana's accommodations and size of the rooms were adequate. The layouts were looking south with sunshine in the windows or, in the memory section, north with a view of the parking lot. The building's construction and cleanliness were good. The person who showed us around was efficient but I got the feeling that the person was not quite as personally responsive to the patients but more business-like than a person would like to have for their family members. They had a small luncheon area and a receptive type area. The feeling wasn't quite there and the atmosphere was a little bit lacking.

Sandy was SO helpful. So was the nursing and PT staff who assessed my dad. They were all caring and friendly. Even after we realized my dad couldn’t do assisted at this point, Sandy remained open and willing to help us through our next steps.

I have been in assisted living at Brookdale Urbana for two years now. They have adequate bathroom facilities. I had a stroke and am in a wheelchair and most of the other places did not have adequate bathroom facilities. Most of the staff people are pretty friendly and some of them are quite good while some leave much to be desired. The food is average; sometimes they have really great meals, but that is not the routine. They are trying to improve, and I think it is improving.

This facility has dropped in preformance in my opinion to a very negative level. The first years my mother was at Brookdale (then Canterberry Ridge) 2014-2015 was extremely good and positive. Now Sept 2016 the kitchen is in chaos, if you need to talk to administration at that facility, Forget it. They do not call you back. Rumor has it that corp. is completely changing the way thaings are run. Staff is quitting, There is no administrator at Urbana now. She was fired!!! The new aids and nurses do not have enough time to care for the residents as they should. Staff has been cut back so badly no one has time to do a decent job. It took staff 3 weeks before they could actually do their job and help my Mother with a shower. She went three weeks without a shower or any extra help after she broke her ankle at this facility. Another thing. No one was at the front desk when my Mother fell at their front door. She walked to her room as no one was around except residents and further damaged her broken ankle. Now she has a horrible wound on her good leg/ shin bone and deep cuts on her calf area. No one called me about an accident. She does not remember what happened. (week of 9/20/16) To this day no one has any idea that my Mom has a terrible wound on her leg, or they just don't care.. That is real good personal service.....right...not!!!! In conclusion...I am looking for a much better assited living with better care and not such outragous raises in basic care & apartment rental & staff that knows what they are doing and that actually care. Can not wait to get my Mother out of there!!!!! At least right now, do not take your loved ones there.!!!!!!!!

My impression of Brookdale Urbana was unfortunately negative, which was why we moved my mother out of there. The level of care had dropped considerably over the last few years, and it got to the point where it just wasn’t a safe or healthy place for my mother anymore. There were a couple of staff members that I would praise very highly, but the majority of them couldn’t care less. It wasn’t a good work situation for them either. They had a backyard, homey lounges, a TV room, and a small salon, though not particularly good amenities. The rooms were on the smaller side.

Called here today between 1pm-3pm and the secretary on duty was very snappy and rude. Will be contacting Brookdale Corporate regarding this. We have been looking to find a place for our grandmother but the ladies attitude we encountered just doesn't go hand and hand with any profession, especially a caretaking facility and someone needs to be aware of this.

We chose Brookdale Urbana for my mom because it's a small facility, and the people working in their memory care unit have been there for a long time. They keep all of their residents busy all the time. The staff is wonderful and very passionate. My mother has an L-shaped room where she has a little living room and a bedroom area, a refrigerator, sink, and a small table, so it's more like home to her.

Brookdale Urbana was a little noisier and busier the day we were there, but otherwise, it seemed to meet most of the things that we were looking.

It is a large facility. They showed us around, and it looked like a nice facility. This is so much closer to our house. The dining room at Emeritus is very nice. They have adequate sized rooms. I was pretty satisfied with what I saw.

My mother is now living in here. We chose this facility among others because it is closer to my sister. The staff working there is absolutely wonderful. They really get to know all of the residents. They truly care about them. They have an exercise group, movie nights, and trivia nights. They just have a variety of things that my mom can participate in if she wants to. Their food is pretty good. It is better than some places that we have tried, but of course it is not home cooking. The rooms they have there are very nice. In fact, my mother loves her room. She is happy being there. I don't worry about my mother for a minute. The best thing I can say aboout the place is my mom calls it a home now.

I chose Emeritus at Canterbury Ridge for my mother because of the location and its amenities. It was the place that my mom -- out of all the places we've visited -- seemed to be most comfortable. The staff has been fantastic. They know all the residents and all the family members by name; they greet you every time they see you in the hallway. The facility itself is modern and clean. The rooms are well laid out. They do things like refinish the room when a new resident moves in. They have a lot of activities although my mom doesn't participate in them. I know that she does their exercise program in the morning. Food is excellent. They have a new chef that started earlier this summer and she is really good. It just seems that my mom is happy with the community, the staff, as well as the other residents that are there.

Emeritus was pretty basic; there weren’t a lot of bells and whistles to it, but he staff was friendly and cared about the needs of the residents. Their rooms seem very sterile, hard, and cold. They could add a warmer touch to them. They followed up with me this weekend, and they were talking about expanding the memory care facilities, so that was encouraging. They have exercises through the rehab group. They have things in the garden area in the warmer weather. They have shuttle service and bus tours.

It seemed nice. Its environment was homey. They did have activities for their residents. Their residents seemed happy and they were doing activities during my visit. Location-wise, it is farther away from the mall, but it is close to the hospital. Also there is a Wal-Mart near it and they provide transportation for their residents. However, the biggest reasons why we chose another facility were the cost and the location. It was on the other side of town.
