"My sister will be moving into Holiday Blair House. It was very clean, the people were friendly, and the food on the menu sounded wonderful. The room size was fine, but not as big as I would like."

"My mom is at Evergreen Place Assisted Living. They're very caring and easy to communicate with, and they provide lots of activities and opportunities for my mom. The staff is very informative and always contacts me right away if anything happens. And if I need them to do anything for my mom, they're very eager and willing to do that too, so it's a good place. She doesn't complain about the food, they bring it to her room when she needs it, or they'll help get her down if they need to. I think they're very expensive, but compared to other places, they're all way overpriced and that's just how it is. My mom doesn't go to many of the activities, but they offer good things for them. Like for Easter, the families can come in and eat for $5 per person, up to three people. They have live bunnies come in that residents could hold, they have music provided by Illinois State students come in, they play bingo, they have movie weekends and popcorn, and they have donuts every Friday. They also have meetings with the residents where they take their input and change things. Like when the residents asked for the doors to stay open longer, and so they changed that, and they also talked about the menus being placed in different places. After they have their meetings, they then type up letters and send that to all the residents. They're listening to their residents' needs and then taking their input and making things better."

"My mother will be moving into Village at Mercy Creek. It's beautiful, and the staff is wonderful. The dining room and the menus are fantastic. There's a beauty parlor and a beautiful courtyard. It's just well kept and clean. It's a little smaller atmosphere than the other ones I toured, which fits well for my mother. My mother made the final decision, but I think the Franciscan affiliation was a big part of it. My mother's Catholic, so that might have had something to do with it, but I think the smaller atmosphere was very appealing to her and us. The other facilities I looked at were larger. It's wonderful. The staff is very educated in geriatrics; that is their field."

"I visited The Glenwood Assisted Living of Mahomet, and it wasn't what I was looking for. I was helping find a place for a relative who needed total care, not just an apartment of her own, so that didn't work. It was a very nice and clean place, though. It was more like an apartment with its own kitchen. I think they also had outdoor spaces that you could go out to. The staff who gave the tour was great, too."

"My mom was at The Glenwood Supportive Living of Mt. Zion for a while, and now she is back home. It was a very nice place. All the residents were very nice and welcoming. The staff was very accommodating. She had a respite room. It was furnished and ready to go, so that's what we used. The food was very good. They had activities. They had church on Sunday, a stretch and flex every morning, and different rooms where the residents could gather and do puzzles or crafts."

"I am very pleased with Manor Court of Clinton. They are very good about trying to keep her upright, so she doesn't get congested, and rotating her and moving her on the bed. They still try to do physical therapy with her. They're very kind to her. "

"I am going to Hickory Point Christian Village. Assisted living is the level of care I'm going into. I like the location. It's in a good part of the Decatur area and it's on a dead-end road, so there won't be people driving through a lot unless they work there or live there. I like that because I use a motorized wheelchair and I'm going to enjoy riding all around those sidewalks. The aesthetics of it were very nice. They're redoing some remodeling right now. It just seemed like a very homey and nice place. The admissions person has been wonderful to work with, Allison. She's been very, very kind the two times that I've been there. I'm going with a studio apartment and it was larger than the one facility I looked at. There's Christian persuasion, meaning that they have a chaplain that does services and devotions, and I like that. There are lots of good plusses. I haven't tried the food yet, but that's not too critical for me because I'm only going to eat a small portion of it anyway. I'm on a special eating plan and I'll be eating some of theirs and some of mine. Whatever they do will be great with me. It's a very beautiful facility, and they had nice landscaping. Every time I mention to someone that I'm going there, they speak very highly of it. They get a good reputation in the community."

"I'm moving into Primrose Retirement Community of Decatur. I've got my own villa, a two-bedroom, two-bath, and it was big. I wanted that more than I did an apartment. I was thoroughly impressed. The staff was wonderful, friendly, and nice, and they made me feel welcome. I'm impressed with the food. I've eaten over there quite a few times, and the food is delicious."

"We have already placed mother at Monticello Villas of Holly Brook. They're phenomenal. They provide meals and help with medicine, bathing, clothing, and laundry. Everything's wonderful. They're very attentive. The food is very good and homemade, and they have a kitchen staff that makes it onsite."

"Piatt County Nursing Home is located in the heart of a lovely well groomed neighborhood in Monticello, Illinois. It has an excellent, caring, patient, attentive staff who all seem to enjoy their jobs. You can choose from a private room, a semi private room with two beds, or a three bed room. All these types of rooms are very nice and very clean with their own bathrooms and large windows that look out onto beautiful, well maintained gardens and grounds. The nursing, dietary, social activity, business office, janitorial, and maintenance staff are all very kind, diligent and helpful. The nursing staff especially are very patient even with the most difficult resident. They all get to know every resident on a very personal level and genuinely care about every one of them. They work very hard to help the residents feel at home. The rooms and hallways are very clean, well decorated, and festive for every holiday. The food choices are nutritious and special needs are accommodated. Residents are gently encouraged to socialize in a variety of daily activities, but are respected when they choose not to. They have several wheel chair swings in shaded areas outside as well as garden areas designed for patients to be able to enjoy the outdoors. This nursing home has successfully avoided the cold, institutional look and feel of most nursing homes by hiring such caring, warm, patient, attentive employees."

"I went to Luther Oaks. It's a lovely, premium-type place that was just too expensive for us. We saw the room and saw where they ate and so forth, and it was beautiful. They do have a workout area for exercise. They have outdoor park areas. It's very open, very clean, extremely clean. The staff was very pleasant."

"This community is clean and workers are friendly. The community is well laid out with ample parking and even small yards. The designs inside the community building are clean and inviting. The hallways are wonderfully decorated with flowers and there is ample space to move around with walkers or wheelchairs. When there are any problems that arise the staff takes care of it quickly and efficiently. Overall a very friendly and welcoming environment for elderly with many accommodations for their various needs. "

"I toured Bloomington Fox Creek Villas and Reflections. It was very impressive on how they have it designed to look like a little town. The people there feel like they're walking through a little town, and they are not stuck inside somewhere. So that was kind of cool. The staff seemed very inviting. They expressed to me how the people in their community would welcome new people with open arms and how they would help them feel part of the community. The hallways were a little dark with the lighting, but other than that, it was very impressive. The rooms were clean and very big. The dining room was very clean and very nice, the way they had it set up. They have a movie theater and all the different activity rooms."

"I liked Westminster Village a lot, but it was so big and so far to walk to everything. The staff was very nice, and everybody that we met said hello. It was nice. It was just too expensive and too far apart from everything. It was very spread out."
