Covington is a small town located east of Atlanta with a population of about 13,000 people, of which 13.9% are seniors over the age of 65. Covington has many beautiful and historic antebellum homes, making it a popular spot for television and movie filming. For locals, however, annual festivals, such as the Stars and Stripes Fest and Christmas in Covington, help foster a sense of community. Summers in Georgia are hot, but senior residents appreciate the mild winters. Covington residents age 55 and older are eligible to join the Newton County Senior Center, and for a small annual membership fee, members can enjoy opportunities to fellowship amongst its many classes, activities and hot meals.
To help seniors discover the most senior-friendly locations around the country, Caring.com conducted a new study, “The Best and Worst Places for Senior Living.” The Caring Senior Living Report analyzes and ranks 300 cities and 50 states on the quality of senior living in that area. The cities were graded using 46 metrics across five categories: Health Care, Senior Living & Housing, Affordability, Quality of life, and Transportation.
