"Oakmont of Segovia was very, very expensive. You have to give in, depending on the size of your apartment, between three hundred and fifty thousand to seven hundred thousand dollars cash up front. That's a lot of money for me to lose interest on. They return it to you or your state when you leave one way or another, with less than a ten percent service fee. The monthly rent also ranges between $3,500 and $7,000 a month, depending upon the size of the apartment you have. They have huge apartments, they have a three bedroom with den, fireplace, and double terraces. It's like people don't want to get rid of one piece of furniture, so you're paying a lot of money each month. You can double that because of the interest you're losing on the money you have to give them. Now, I understand this is not an unusual practice, but it's an expensive and damaging practice as far as I'm concerned, and I told them, I think I wrote a note to them, I said that you're a little too pricey for me. The amenities were quite sumptuous. They mix independent living with assisted living, with people who need care. The folks I saw while walking around, it was just depressing. I mean, when you become a senior citizen, you don't want to be reminded that for the grace of God there go I, that you see no young people, that you see and all you hear all day long are complaints. I can't get up, I can't sit down, I can't do this, I can't do that. So I think companies that are offering independent living should really consider what independent living means. It was immaculate, they have extensive grounds, they have a swimming pool, they have a gym. In addition to the arts and crafts room, they have a music room, a small auditorium, a beauty salon for the ladies, and a magnificent dining room. It was just breathtaking. "
