"We visited the Skywest Retirement and Living Center while taking a look at assisted living facilities in Texas for my brother's friend. We thought it was a really nicely designed living environment for seniors. The outer grounds were nicely maintained. The facility had a homey atmosphere with a good color scheme, and comfortable furnishings. All of the rooms were fresh and bright with very good light. The communal rooms were nice, with comfortable and easy access furnishings. The facility seemed to be able to accommodate various levels of ambulation easily. We could see that the seniors could easily participate in a variety of interesting activities. The residents go on many day trips to visit the art galleries and museums, eateries and cultural events, such as festivals an fairs offered in the region. The staff really tries to make physical activity interesting to encourage participation. Residents can use the exercise room at any time and also go on daily walks. Aerobics and yoga classes are offered, and many of the residents choose to get their exercise outdoors by walking the grounds. The food we saw smelled and looked delicious - like from an upscale restaurant. T Snacks were offered regularly and whenever requested. The menus all had healthy, but interesting food options for all kinds of diets. This is a very nice living environment for seniors and they all looked very content. "

"We toured The Legacy at Town Square. The whole place was the nicest one we have seen. It was beautiful inside. You smell cookies the minute you walk in, because they're baking cookies. Everyone was extremely friendly. The woman who gave me the tour was nice. Everybody was very, very nice. It was one of my top choices, but I asked them what would happen if my mom ran out of money, and they said that she would have to move because they don't help you with Medicaid if you have to go on Medicaid. So, that was the only bad point about that place, but everything else was just beautiful. I loved it. I really like the facility, and my mom really enjoyed it too."

"My husband is in Hillside Haven Care Home. There are just four residents there. It's more of a home. It's been there for a long time. It is wonderful. He loves it and that's saying a lot out there that he loves it. I would recommend it to anyone. I like the attention that they give their residents there. They're so caring and they're right there when they need help. The staff is perfect. They love their residents and they're out there taking care of them and making sure they have their needs. He loves the food and it's always a healthy meal with your meat and veggies. They can go and they can sit on the front porch. It's gated where they can't get out. All three of them can come to the table, but my husband can't. He's basically either in the recliner or in his bed because he really can't sit and stay in a wheelchair. I've seen some puzzles in there and they've got some games there. It's just like a home in the neighborhood."

"We went to check out the Dr Winfred And Elizabeth Moore Assisted Living Center on the advice of a friend, while in the area looking for places for our uncle to live. The buildings resemble a modern apartment structure. The furnishings in the formal communal areas were nice, if a bit stiff, but there was much more comfortable furniture in the resident focused rooms, where it really counts. For example, the living area had a nice, big sofa. There were also a number of easy chairs. The living quarters offer two different designs for studios -- one that has the living space divided, and the other in an open floor plan. We hadn't seen a choice for this size apartment before, so it is nice to have an option. We liked that there was an on-site wellness center, spa and pharmacy. They also offer pastoral care for residents. The staff is what is really exceptional at this facility. There is plenty to do -- and nothing is missing. But it is the care that the residents receive that is most important to us. Without that, we wouldn't care what else they had. We could see that they treat everyone with respect and dignity -- they develop meaningful relationships with their residents and families. That, to us, means more than anything. Because of that, we would strongly consider placing our uncle here to live, knowing that he will be well cared for in every way possible. "

"My mother is going to Park Central Community. We've gone up there to get an idea of her room and get some measurements. They gave us the tour and it was nice. They have so many activities to do. They have a five-star restaurant. They had a lot of outings, so they can get out and do things, just more than I think anyone can imagine. There are different buildings and she'll be in the independent one right now. Later on, she might need to move over to the assisted if she needs more nursing care. They have an Alzheimer's unit as well. The residents we saw were about to play bunco. There were several elderly people and you have to be 62 to move in. They also have apartments. I'm 60, and I may think about moving into those apartments and you can continue to work. There were people eating. They have a certain time for everybody to come and eat in the dining room. If it's past that time, they can order room service. They have a hamburger sandwich shop. They have a convenience store that has cooked food also. There was an exercise place. There were women and men in there exercising, and they had someone there to watch and make sure that they were exercising properly. They had a washing machine and dryer on their floor. They had different seating areas. They tell my mom that she can sit anywhere, that that was her home, not just the apartment above, but downstairs as well. They had a library. They had a place where she could get her hair done, her nails, and her feet. She could make appointments. There's just a whole bunch. It'll help mom be more active. She's on a walker, so we're hoping that helps the circulation of her legs a little bit. They have a separate dining room that sits about ten maybe. If we have family coming in, we can make reservations. A waiter or waitress comes to us and gets our order. I just talked to our custodian the other day and she says she goes maybe two or three times a week and eats over at the dining room because it's open to the public at certain times. The staff was awesome and very friendly. Even the residents that live there kept introducing themselves to my mom. I think the challenge will be for her to remember everybody. The facility was very clean. They were actually in there cleaning her apartment at the time, so they do a thorough cleaning. My mom was excited when she saw the place."

"We looked at The Craig Senior Living. One thing they do is if you don't want to go to their cafeteria to eat, you can have the food brought to you. They have a cafeteria and several different areas of their different buildings because there's more than one, and you can go in any of them if you want to, so you can have a variety of menus depending on which one you go to. They have a grocery store, a pharmacy, and a doctor's office. On their premises, they have a doctor's office. They have eight buildings, and they are all connected by covered walkways. The facility was very nice. It felt homey."

"We moved to Harrington 3 weeks ago. We have a 2-bedroom apartment with 2 baths. We liked it. The staff treat us really well. The food is excellent, and we have a different menu at different times every day. We have all kinds of activities. We have movies and bible studies. It has really been nice for us. "
