"I toured Randolph Manor. Catherine did a good job of explaining everything. We have a concern that the facility doesn't have air conditioning. It just has portable window units, and we were looking at more of the private versus the semi. We weren't sure if they could even put a window unit in it because of the style of the windows. My aunt does have COPD, so that could cause a problem for us there. I did like the availability of all the rooms that they had available for everybody to get together and watch TV. I liked the fact that they had a puzzle room where everybody could sit and a little concern that there's access to go outside without being monitored. My aunt does have a walker, and two out of the three of these avenues to go outside had stepped down. So, my concern is that it could be a problem for her with the walker to get out. It's a clean facility."

"At the Rouse Home, it was always a little depressing to be there because so many people were in poor condition, but I think it's like that at most nursing homes. I thought the staff was very friendly, but maybe not as responsive as they should have been. Nan, my fiance's grandma, actually had muliple injuries while living there. She needed assistance to use the bathroom, and she always tripped and fell when she tried to go by herself. The worse injury she faced was a broken hip. I wasn't there, so I can't tell you for sure what happened, but she said that they didn't come quick enough when she pressed the button to have someone help her, so she got out of bed herself and tried to walk to the bathroom. If someone had been there sooner she wouldn't have fallen, but, at the same time, she should have waited. They always had activities for the residents who wanted to participate, so that was nice. Nan never participated, as she was basically bed ridden. With assistance she could get in a wheel chair and move around. Her nurse used to take her for a walk around the grounds on nice days, which I thought was really nice. When we came to visit each week, we also wheeled her around the grounds. That's another thing that I liked, was that the grounds were very nice, and if she was in better condition, she could have lived in one of their assisted living apartments that is located on site. She passed away a few months ago, and I think they did a pretty good job with her toward the end of her life. They took care of her with an IV and allowed all of her family to come say goodbye in the last couple weeks. Her memory was gone and she was basically unresposive, so they had to do everything for her that last two weeks. Overall, I think they did fine. No one was really happy about the injuries, but again, she probably should have just waited for help. No one really likes to see their loved ones in a nursing home because you know it's the last step before death, but I think the care they gave her helped her stay with us for an extra two years. "

The Director, Karen L., was terrific with communication - because of the virus, I was not allowed in (we had toured earlier) and so Karen sent me a picture of the room and responded immediately if I had any questions. The staff that I met seemed caring and capable. Unless you've dealt with Alzheimers directly, you cannot fathom how difficult it is - Cambridge was a life saver for me and I intend to use them again. They understand this disease and know how to handle it."

"I really liked Fredonia Place. It had just about anything a person could want. It had very nice accommodations. They had exercise rooms, movie rooms, exercise classes, day trips, games, and all sorts of things to participate in. The rooms were absolutely clean and well-maintained. The staff was very accommodating, very pleasant, and very interactive. It was a very well-manicured property and everything was very nice and very safe. I was really impressed. If I was of the age, I would go myself there. I did see a menu and I was impressed with it and the choices, but I did not eat there."

"This all-women facility is a beautiful Victorian Home near the center of the village of Fredonia. The administration and employees are absolutely the best. It is very obvious how much they love their residents. There are many activities throughout the year for the residents to participate in. The college is just down the road and some of the students come to the Home to visit, perform, and help out. "
