"The staff was very friendly and willing to help. You could tell that they were concerned with the comfort of their guests. The facility was very clean and had a peaceful atmosphere. There was a very nice, paved walking path outside that gave residents a safe and relaxing way to get outside and enjoy the fresh air. There was even a propane campfire for the guests to sit around. My grandpa was not thrilled about living in an assisted living center but I think he made the best of it and Aicota made that possible. He took part in Bingo, watched tv, and met new people. His room was not huge, but it was spacious enough for him to be comfortable and the nurses were there to help with any physical needs that he had. I would give Aicota Assisted Living an A for the way that they care for their residents. Everyone there was involved in making the lives of their guest more enjoyable. "

"My mother has been at the Hallett Cottages for a year and four months. It's a small place with 16 rooms. Right now, it's just ladies that live there. The care is wonderful. If anything, they are a little understaffed but manage to do the job. They prepare breakfast for the ladies every morning, then do all the clean up, the laundry, and the dishes. It's like living at home, but these ladies have somebody taking care of them. Meals are brought in for lunch and supper from Heartwood where my father lives because it's only four blocks away. They take very good care of them. She is in the last stage of Alzheimer's, so she is in a Broda chair. All of her care is taken care of, like getting her in and out of bed using a lift system. They bathe her, take her to the toilet, and have made it possible for her to end her life at that facility, which is unusual for a memory care unit. Usually, they would transfer them to a nursing home by this point, but they are doing the care there for her. They take very good care of her, and the nursing staff is good. We've done some rearranging of her medication, and they've been very easy to work with. Also, because it's all ladies, she feels comfortable. "

"Heartwood is a fabulous facility. Right now, my father is in independent living. Before my mom went into a memory care unit, they were in assisted living. I am happy with all of the service we've gotten there. It's a wonderful, comfortable, and very classy-looking place. The people are friendly. I would highly recommend it. He is involved in a men's Bible study and goes down and has dinner every evening with a community of people. He sits with various different people and really enjoys that. They have monthly birthday parties with special music that he loves, and have movie nights. Because he's in independent living, he's not involved in a lot of the activities because he's out and about. He has a car and drives. They have a wonderful exercise gym that he takes advantage of and has friends that he goes out and walks the hallways with to get exercise. One of the things he really likes is that he is a hall monitor. They have these tags that they put out in their doorway at 9:00 in the evening and 9:00 in the morning and one of them volunteers to walk up and down and make sure that everybody had put out their little tag and that everybody's OK. He likes being able to do that and help out. "

"I toured. This is about a mile out of McGregor on Highway 65. At the back of the building, the scenery goes on and on. There's the woods back there, and there's a large field where you can see the animals like the deer, the bear, and whatever, and I like to be in the country. It was quiet and clean. The staff was very nice. It was nicely decorated."

"We chose Whitefish at the Lakes for Mom, because it has more residents. It's a newer facility and my mom has her own washer-dryer. She really likes the food, too. The place is very neat and tidy. The staff is very helpful and has bent over backwards to assist. They have chair exercises, coffee in the mornings, singing, a walking club, and a beauty salon onsite. The cost is comparable to the area."

"I only visited Golden Horizons of Crosslake. It's close to home and I'm satisfied with it. They have bingo, they do exercises with the residents every day, they have a social hour with entertainment, and the meals are satisfactory. I haven't found any problems with it. I think the care is pretty good. They're understaffed a little bit. I they could use more employees because sometimes the residents have to wait a little while before their call buttons are answered. My husband's room is a studio type apartment with a bedroom and living room together, a separate little kitchen, and a separate bathroom."

"It was comfortable. My mom enjoyed it. She liked the people. She liked the feel of the place, but the staff didn't know we were coming. We thought we had an appointment, but they hadn't been notified. They were still very gracious. I think it was a nurse who showed us around, and she was very warm, kind, and very thorough. The rooms were all studios, but they looked very clean and comfortable. They have quite a few different activities. Three meals a day, laundry, cleaning and so forth were all included. The residents were out in their yards. They had kind of an outside area, a gathering place that they could be outside."

"Almond House was a god-send for our mother. She left the nursing home where she was tied to a chair in the day room and made a fairly seamless transition to Almond House.(half the price of the nursing home, too) The professional nursing care was excellent. Daily care givers in the facility were kind and interacted with our mother. She actually improved her outlook in life over the course of time even though her dementia continued its deadly march. This is a great place."

"The staff at the Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd Minnesota is very welcoming and kind. They have been a great help for my father and my family as we moved him to the facility. The setting is very nice with a courtyard and individual rooms for all of the residents. The residents have access to the courtyard for family events and dinner is served in a familial setting. The formal areas feel more like a home than a care facility, and all of the other residents are supportive and helpful. There are several other related care facilities on the Good Samaritan campus and this offers opportunities for advanced care for later life stages. The medical personnel that work on campus are competent and well respected. Their concern seems to truly be for the residents. All in all, I would definitely recommend this assisted living location. I have been pleased with the results and all of the great resources. My family and I were new to this type of arrangement, but the staff at the Good Samaritan Village were helpful and made the entire process seem easy. "

"Good Samaritan Society-Woodland seems like a nice setting. There are lots of staff, and they all seem to care. My mom has a nice room that looks out to the trees in the yard. There's also a park across the street, where she can look out and see people walking. They have different activities every day. They take her down there, and she sometimes participates."

"I had an in-person tour of Northern Lakes. The entrance and the sitting room area are big. The dining area, community room, mailboxes, gym, and library are all very good. The apartments are very nice. The staff members are very friendly and answer all our questions. The view to the woods and the Paul Bunyan Trail impresses us the most. Some of the apartments that are not facing the Paul Bunyan Trail are very noisy because of rail rides."

"My mother's been in Senior Class Center for about a week. It's a beautiful place. The staff is very good with her. She's got Alzheimer's so she doesn't quite understand why she's there, but they've been very good in this hard transition. Unfortunately, it's not close to where I live, but people who run the place knew her before, so they really went out of their way to make sure she is comfortable. She's got her own room. The only problem was there was a miscommunication about the paperwork that needed to be done, but once it got settled everything was fine. "

"My dad and stepmom are residents of Edgewood Baxter. It is very convenient because it's not a big area. They don't have far to go, like the elevator, the activity room, and the dining room. It's all in the center. All the staff are very nice and very helpful except for the head of the nursing staff. They have a variety of things like they had baby back ribs, and they said they were very good. They had shrimp, and the soups were very good, and if they didn't like some kind of meal, they had a choice to have something else made, and that's nice. The facility is very clean. It's very nice. I don't know how old of a building it is, but it's kept up. It's not like you see dirty areas or anything like that. It's like the carpets and everything is always clean. They have bingo. They have crafts. They have music come in, and just like a social gathering if they want to play cards or something. They have a salon there. The rooms are nice. The one they got, because those two lived together, had a little bit bigger room, like there were two bedrooms, and it was perfect for them. It's a large room, but if it's one person, they have a one-bedroom, and there's plenty of space in those apartments. That's what's nice."
