Beware hospice nurse from At Home Care Hospice. Our fatally ill loved one was assigned a bitter woman as hospice nurse. Our loved one absolutely needed particular medication to keep from suffering terribly from specific disease per medical specialist and all staff who worked with him at nursing facility. This bitter hospice nurse insisted that our family member would not even know he was suffering and thus did not need this medication. This was blatantly false. I tried conversing with this to nurse as part of the family team, but she was not open to any discussion and actually threatened to remove family member from hospice if my family and I did not go along with her dictatorial decree. I said nothing further to her that day. Dir of nursing of facility said she heard from nurse that she had made a mistake in her threat to me, but nurse did not apologize or agree to talk things over. On the next day, this bitter nurse promptly acted on her threat and simply kicked our loved one out of the hospice program with the blessing of the medical director whom she said would automatically (blindly) go along with whatever she said. Her refusal to talk over the matter with us for the sake of critically ill loved one, to show Zero compassion, and to behave inhumanely says everything you, the reader, should know about AT Home Care Hospice of Central VA. What was on display was the absolute opposite of everything that the hospice way should be when treating dying patients and attending to their family who also suffers. Such lack of proper medical treatment and then abandonment is simply outrageous. Please, stay away from At Home Care. There are many other hospice agencies to choose from who do their jobs in the true spirit of the hospice movement and do not give the most egregious medical mismanagement possible to dying patients and their family.

My mother-in-law is in AT Home Care Hospice. I have mixed feelings because I don’t know that much about hospice and what they’re supposed to do. The nursing home is supplying the 24-hour care, and the hospice is taking care of her medication. The nurse comes by about twice a week. If I have any questions, we give them a call. Each time that I had to talk to them, I was able to get somebody. They are very attentive and have been very good to work with.
