"The care givers were very responsive to the needs of my mother in a kind and helpful way. If there were any questions from them or from me they were asked and answered fast and professional. They helped with cleaning and with packing of the house for my mother. They got her safely to and from her zumba classes. They were helpful with helping her get to her doctors appointments that were on the helpers scheduled days."

"They provided excellent in home care for my dad, I am so thankful to have them. Caring, dependable, knowlegeable and trustworthy. My dad was able to be independent a lot longer thanks to the CNAs from Right at Home. I would use them again and would happily refer them to anyone needing home assistance. They cared for my dad, did light housekeeping, cleaning bathroom, laundry, taking out trash, giving meds and making sure he had the groceries and supplies he needed. Absolute God send!!"

"I am using Interim Healthcare of Peoria for my mom. She needs pretty much everything because she can't walk. She had a stroke. They are doing everything for her, like helping her get on the toilet, go to the bathroom, get her into bed, cook, clean, and help her bathe. They've been wonderful."

"It's been about a 2-month period. So far Helping Hands has been good. They assigned us a young man and he gets along with my father well. He's there three days a week from noon till about 4:00. He does different things around the house and he also drives, so they're getting along quite well. They seem to hit it off right away. "

"Right now, Help at Home is providing a person to come over and help my dad with his medication, making sure that he takes his medications. That person also fixes breakfast and light lunch for my dad. We also have someone coming in in the evening to help with dinner and make sure my dad takes his evening meds. They also have a person that has a vehicle that can take him to appointments when we can't go with him. So they also take him to doctor's appointments. They also help with assistance in bathing him, getting him dressed, and helping him clean up the house. They do the chores that he can't do like washing dishes, laundry, mopping the floor, keeping the bathroom and kitchen, and everything is clean. Their coordinator who makes sure that they send the right people out and match them up to the person is pretty accurate and very helpful. We've been fortunate because we haven't had too many staffing issues. There's one person that I wouldn't recommend, and I spoke to the coordinator about her because she called off too many times when my dad needed assistance. So the coordinator agreed with me that that person wasn't a good fit because she wasn't reliable, and we needed that reliable person. So, she took care of the situation and got a replacement."

"I have been able to find and secure in-home care from Comfort Keepers, so nurses have been coming in 24 hours 7 days a week. I've been using them for about a month now. I'm satisfied with them. The nursing staff have been very nice and very caring to my mother. They help her around the house. The agency itself has been doing the best that they can in filling in people like when certain folks call off or are unable to make it. They do a pretty good job of letting me know what goes on in case there aren't any folks to cover certain shifts. They offer general custodial care like feeding and helping with some activities around the house. I saw different folks that come in but they're all generally helpful. They're all very nice people."

"We have been using Visiting Angels. They're providing experienced caregivers, some of whom are CNAs, and others are not. The management has struggled to get us consistent people to staff the shift, but after three months they've gotten it done. So, I applaud their efforts to do that. It probably took all of two months to get consistent staffing. What we're using them for is help with mobility, supporting my father when he has to walk to the bathroom, helping him get up in the morning, helping him get ready for bed at night, helping my stepmother, and also helping with occasional snacks for him; no real medical care. I think it's $28.50 an hour. It is expensive, so there's no question about it. If we didn't have the VA, we would have to find some caregivers. I have found caregivers for $10 an hour, CNAs that would be happy to come in, but I've left it with Visiting Angels because the VA is covering it. And having it with Visiting Angels, their people manage schedules, they handle all the invoicing to the VA, and they handle all the details."

"My social worker told me about Circle of Life in Peoria. Their care is very good. I have not been with them very long so we're still getting acquainted. You have to look at them for their vantage point for the patient and they are patient oriented. And I know the one taking care of me now will fall through if the need comes up. The manager is wonderful and that's very important, that they listen to your needs. If a change needs to be made, they don't drill you or give you a hard time. They accept you with a lot of respect and they're very kind. That's my experience with them so far and I've only been with them a couple of months. I would recommend this to everyone. "

"The caregivers that Snyder Village Home Care sent to our home were just great. We were happy with them. They would fix my father-in-law's breakfast and lunch, they would bathe him twice a week, and just kept him company. I didn't have them do housework or anything, but I think that when you hire them, they're available to do that for someone, we didn't need that in our situation though. We had three different caregivers and they were very prompt. They would leave a note each day and let us know what had happened throughout the day. They were actually in our home three days a week. The money we paid was all worth it for someone to come in and care for him. We didn't even use them to the full extent, but they did some housework and laundry and kept asking if there was anything else that they could do. So, I would recommend them."

"I have multiple experiences with six local agencies (3 hospitals and 3 independents) over the course of eight years. Spoon River was the one who listened the best. None are perfect, but listening to the client, being receptive rather than defensive and an attitude of seeking solutions rather than explaining or blaming go a lot farther than lip service. In home care is largely dependent on accurate assessment, diagnosis, and appropriate personalities and skills to handle the task at hand. Spoon River brought all these into our house consistently, and whenever there was a concern, they were quick to resolve it, learn from it and stay the course. I'd have them back in a minute, and know I could depend on them listening, hearing and performing accordingly. It is so very important to communicate your thoughts, fears, concerns and needs. They listen! They performed services over a course of 9 months, everything from wound management, blood draws, smile deliveries, and prescription management/advice. "
