Our elderly relative had a great experience with his nurse at Devoted Guardians for over a year. We were sad to part ways with her. On the other hand, our experience with the non-skilled care team was negative from day one when we first met with a sales representative who was an hour late to the initial appointment and who offered a sales pitch about the firm’s staffing levels and experience levels that was not met in our case. In other words, we had a night and day different experience between the skilled and non-skilled teams. In hindsight, I wish we had just stayed with the skilled team and kept our wonderful nurse for another year or more and avoided some major hassles and headaches.

I am a 95-year old client who has been using PrimeCare for over a year. I prefer to stay in my own home as long as I can, and with the excellent care I receive from my care-givers, I am happy to still be here. On the two days a week that I have help my "angel" arrives to help with my shower, and then she is busy doing my little housekeeping duties. (changing sheets, doing laundry, removing trash, etc.). She drives me in my car to doctor appointments, the library and the grocery store. We have become beyond client/helper – I have two loving and caring aides, for whom I am grateful. Oh, yes! Bill and Gina are always there to answer questions and work out solutions. Thank to you all!

We used Right at Home in Goodyear for caregivers for my aunt. Dee visited my aunt every weekday for 3 years. She was an exceptional caregiver. She was so caring, helpful, knowledgable and even as my aunt’s Dementia progressed she remained that way. I really don’t know what we would have done without her. I worked with Daryl in the office to coordinate services and believe me when I say I went to her with any and all questions. She answered them all very professionally AND with kindness. I had heard horror stories about finding responsible caregivers and reputable organizations to work with and was delighted to find Right at Home. They were a dream to work with and made my tasks so much easier.

My mom was adamantly opposed to having people in her house when she got home from the hospital, and it took quite a bit of convincing to get her on board. Now she doesn’t want them to leave!
Not only did they provide immediate (same day) care under stressful circumstances, they have far exceeded all of our expectations with regards to her personal care, keeping us aprised of day-to-day events (we all live out of state), recommendations for additional and alternative solutions and making my Mom feel safe and well cared for. We will always be grateful to the people at Griswold.

My caregiver, Gabby, from Kindred at Home is absolutely perfect. She has exceeded my expectations in every way. She has been the single most best person that I have had helping me. She’s extremely professional and extremely well trained in her procedures (since I am in a wheelchair), with bathing, showering, shampooing, skincare, everything. She goes the extra mile and does a fabulous job of cleaning out everything in the house.
I’m quite pleased with her and I wish I could have her with me 24/7. I had one evening with another person that was not of a size that could help me very well, but Gabby has been great. Since she won’t be working in the next two days, I’m hoping I will have equal quality care with the next providers from their caregivers. Gabby will come back Friday and start with her new schedule of 6:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
We were able to get the care started two days after I was released from the hospital. Everything has been smooth (thanks to Kindred at Home), when it comes to procedures and arrangements in getting someone quickly. We have a service dog, so the person needs to love dogs. My dog has taken to Gabby and they play and have a good time and she gets to go out regularly to go to the bathroom. Since we were in a condo, you have to go across the parking lot and up the hill for the area for the pets, so it’s not an easy job, and she could not be better at it.

I have been using Home Instead for nearly a year and a half and could not be happier with the level of care, compassion and service. My spouse has cognitive issues. Our caregiver has bonded with my wife to a level I never expected. She helps her not only with basic care but goes well beyond by doing her hair, skin care, makeup and nails. Those touches are what I think helped my wife get comfortable and trust the caregiver. She also helps out with household chores such as cleaning and laundry which is a great benefit to me. I am able to get some time for stress relieving activity and run errands with complete confidence that my spouse is safe, comfortable and engaged in activity. Home Instead office is easy to work with to adjust schedules 24/7. I highly recommend Home Instead.

I’m using HomeCare.com. It’s fine. They’re very good and very responsive to any concerns I have, and they’ve provided me with a good health care aide, not great necessarily, but good. They also provide light housekeeping, they help me clean myself up, and they take me to my appointment. They get here within a certain time window between 7 and 7:30, and that’s when I need them here. A lot of times my communication is directly with the aides. If she can’t come on a certain day, the agency would contact me to see whether I need some assistance or need somebody to fill me in on a given day. I think I’m paying more than I probably should because they have a mandatory number of days that I can contract for, and that’s probably more than I usually need. To maintain the contract, I have to keep them on a certain number of days.

Cindy is a joy. She is loving and caring. When I met her, I had just separated from my previous caretaker, and I was worried that it would be difficult for me to bond with someone else. I had spent the day interviewing several Care providers, but no one had fit the bill for me. As soon as I met her, "we clicked," and everything just installed after that. Since then, she has become a part of my life. She helps me with daily activities, keeps my calendar, takes me to doctor appointments, etc.
What makes Cindy unique is that she is an integral, part of my life. She is full of life and energy and she fills me with hope for my future. She makes me feel alive. To me, that is more important than just doing her normal caregiving functions.

Financial Assistance for Home Care in Surprise, AZ
Given the high cost of in-home care, many people use one or more forms of financial assistance to cover the expenses. Below, we explain some of the most common sources of financial help for paying for in-home care. If none of these options are available to you, you can reach out to your Area Agency on Aging or Aging and Disability Resource Center to learn about local resources.
- Long-Term Care Insurance: Long-term care insurance covers expenses related to senior care, including in-home care. Depending on the policy type, beneficiaries may receive a cash payment to use towards long-term care or reimbursement for qualifying long-term care expenses. Note that there are limitations- typically a maximum benefit of $150 per day- and exact coverage terms vary depending on the exact policy, so always check the details.
- Medicare: Medicare does not cover in-home care because it is classified as custodial, or non-medical, care. However, some Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans, which offer expanded benefits, may cover in-home custodial care.
- Medicaid: Medicaid coverage of in-home care varies between different states because it is not a federally mandated benefit. Currently, all states cover some in-home care either through their standard Medicaid or a waiver program. The specific coverage rules are set individually by each state.
- Veterans’ Benefits: The Aid and Attendance benefit is a monthly cash payment that beneficiaries can use to pay for senior care, including in-home care services. To qualify for A&A, Veterans must already receive the VA pension and meet several additional requirements, including needing assistance with the activities of daily living. Contact the Department of Veterans Affairs to learn more.
- Reverse Mortgages: Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (HECMs) are federally insured loans that are available to homeowners age 62 and over. Reverse mortgages allow you to access a portion of your home’s equity in cash, tax free. Many seniors use reverse mortgages to finance their care expenses, including in-home care. Note that although there are no monthly payments due on reverse mortgage loans, borrowers do have to repay the loan once the last surviving homeowner passes away, moves, or sells the home.

Frequently Asked Questions
What types of services can a home care agency in Surprise provide?
Surprise home care agencies offer services to help seniors remain independent. These services can be scheduled on a regular basis or on an occasional basis to provide respite to family caregivers. Home care agency services may include companionship, pet care, minor home repairs, housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal preparation and assistance with personal care.
How do you pay for senior care at home?
Many seniors and their families pay for senior care at home on a private-pay basis, using savings, pension earnings or other resources. Seniors who qualify for a VA pension can apply for Aid and Attendance or Housebound benefits, two enhanced pension programs that provide cash for in-home care services. Home care is also covered by many insurance plans, and some counties offer home care programs for low and moderate-income seniors.
What is the difference between in-home care and home health care?
In-home care is non-medical care that is customized to the needs of each senior and delivered on a one-on-one basis in the senior’s home. Home health care includes many of the same services offered through home care, but also adds some limited medical care delivered by a licensed medical professional. In general, home care is designed for those who need help with day-to-day activities, while home health care is geared towards those who need help with chronic medical conditions as well as activities of daily living.

Assisted living homes vs. home care: how to decide?
Assisted living homes provide seniors with room and board along with nonmedical personal care services that are similar to what is offered by home care providers. In general, assisted living can be a good option for seniors who like the idea of joining a structured residential care community with set meal times and daily group activities. Home care may be the best option for elders who enjoy living independently and can safely do so with support from home care providers, family members and community-based programs and services.
What are some popular services in home care?
Some of the most popular services in home care include assistance with bathing and grooming, given that seniors are at an increased risk of slip-and-fall injuries while bathing or showering. Many home care clients also request help with light housekeeping and meal preparation, running errands and transportation to nonurgent medical appointments.
