We contacted vitas while my mother was still in the hospital. We initially thought she would be with palliative services but unfortunately that was not the case. She declined rapidly and needed end of life comfort hospice. She remained in the hospital during this time until she passed away. From the initial meeting with Vitas registration, to the aide who came in daily to bath and groom my mother, to the chaplains, and finally the nurse, we could not have been any more pleased with their compassion and care. I would recommend the Vitas Healthcare of Lombard to anyone who finds themselves in this emotional situation.

We used Vitas Healthcare, but my sister passed, so that is all over with. My biggest complaint is tha they didn't try to care for anything. For instance, she got a wound when she came home from the hospital, and the nurses from Vitas were not focused on trying to take care of that wound at all. I was constantly asking them, "What about the wound? Are you going to use anything on it?" And the only thing they did was put a bandage over it, so it ended up getting worse. They just kept saying that it is not going to help. How do you know that something is not going to work if you didn't try it? I told them that if I was caring for you, I would try to keep you comfortable ,and I am going to do everything that I possibly can to keep you away from all the pains and aches. This wasn't their focus until I talked about changing companies. Then they were willing to do something.

I was very impressed with the marketing people who came out and present Vitas Hospice to us. The nurse was fine, but then when we got down where we had to have round-the-clock, there were some bumps on the road. Some of the people did not do as expected. I was a little disappointed with at least three of the attendants. The company needs to check the people that they are having for round-the-clock care more deeply. There was one case they knew of a problematic employee who was kind of a trouble maker and yet they still sent him out to my house and I felt that was a very poor judgment on their part.

I'd like to thank the entire Vitas Hospice team who cared for my Grandmother who was 97 years young. She had a zest for life and loved to be social. Vitas was able to control her congestive heart failure symptoms and allowed her to keep active with our family and her friends at Lexington Nursing Home in Schaumburg. Everyone was so caring and helpful and always available. I can honestly say that Vitas helped us enjoy the time we had left without worry or concern. I feel it was because of their staff that she lived longer than what our doctors told us. Thank you Vitas Hospice for your compassion and dedication to lovingly care for my grandmother. I wish I could have convinced my other family members to research hospice care and Vitas sooner!!!
