We are using Home Instead for my dad. They come in, and they take him out shopping. They'll take him to his doctor's appointments if necessary. They help him with housework, like cleaning. They help him prepare meals and do his laundry. They do stretches to keep him flexible. My dad has been happy with them. He sounds a lot better than he's sounded in a long time. So I think having somebody at the house has improved his mental alertness too. They did a really thorough presentation when we met up with them and got my dad's information as far as things that he likes to do and who he is as a person. They're trying to get a really good personality assessment, and I think that helped today. My dad's 89, and they paired him with a guy who's 63, so they have similar interests. I think he kind of feels like he's also got a friend there with him.

Do not use this home care agency! We recently hired Home Instead in the the North San Diego County area to assist my elderly father with personal care while he was recovering from a hospital stay. The office staff was helpful and assured us their employees were well-trained and up to the task. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. Home Instead worker #1 was quite young and inexperienced. He spent a great deal of time playing on his phone. Two out of three shifts he left 15-20 minutes early. Home Instead worker #2 only came once and he made my father's bed all wrong. (I would think making beds would be a basic skill requirement). Home Instead worker #3 was actually pretty competent but we were informed he would be available only sporadically. We were also told that workers #1 and #2 were "uncomfortable" returning because my father was grumpy. A family member was always home with my father and the caretaker, and my dad was neither verbally nor physically abusive, just a little resistant. I feel that a home care agency should prepare their employees to handle grumpy elderly people as this is a common side effect of aging. We terminated Home Instead's services and are looking for a better agency.

My caregivers are working out just fine. They all watch over me. They are doing an excellent job. They drive conservatively and safely. They don't scare me. They are all good drivers. I have no complaints. My family is happy with Home Instead too.

We chose Home Instead because they're nationwide and have a good reputation. I interviewed several agencies and I considered them the best. We've been using them for three to four months. I think the caregiver is excellent and she helps us a lot.

We've had Home Instead for several months now. They came to the house and talked to my dad and my siblings to make sure that we got what we wanted. Basically, they provide companionship and cooking. But I wish the caregivers were a little older. Both of the girls that I've met are in their 20s. I think I'd like somebody a little bit older.
