Overview of Blue Jay Springs
Average age is 83 years young. We serve a diverse population of mature adults in need of assistance with daily tasks. We completed an individualized activity assessment for each resident and incorporate their preferences into our activity programming. We encourage residents to let us know about special hobbies such as painting, stamping, baking, singing and allow them to lead an activity related to their own hobbies.
Our goal is to have as much fun as possible for as long as we can regardless of chronic illnesses or physical limitations. We have exercise and walking groups, crafts, musical entertainment, games including bingo, card groups, outdoor activities (weather permitting) our weekly happy hour to gather with their friends prior to our Friday Fish Fry just as most Wisconsinites have done for generations, we hold Packer Tailgate parties, Independence Day BBQ's for the resident and their families, Home Harvest Festival in the fall, Christmas Teas and many other fun gatherings. We have a library where residents can find a book of interest. We have common area televisions, where some of our residents watch the Bucks, Brewers, Packers or the Hallmark Channel with friends.
All our food is made right on sight by dedicated staff. Fresh fruit, snacks, fresh water and coffee are available at all times. Residents can expect the type of food Mom made such as: Baked Chicken, baby red potatoes and green beans. There are alternatives available if a resident is not interested in the main meal offering. All meals are balanced to ensure we meet the USDA dietary guidelines. Of course, we do have desserts, ice cream, cookies, cakes, torts, etc.
At the time of admission, we obtain email addresses, phone numbers and addresses of family members and legal representatives. Anytime your loved one becomes ill or has a change in condition, the designated legal representative is notified via phone. Event notifications are sent by email at the address provided at the time of move in.
Daytime and Evening: 1 staff member to every 10 residents
Overnight Staff: 1 staff member to every 20 residents.
Staffing is determined by resident need and level of care.
In addition to care staff Marla Vista Assisted Living employs:
2 full time cooks
Activities Director
Housekeeper
Resident Care Coordinator
Maintenance Staff
Administrator
RN (She visits the facility weekly and is on-call as needed to address resident needs and concerns related to healthcare)
We do accept dogs/cats. All pets must be spayed/neutered and be up to date on their rabies and other vaccinations. Dogs less than 30 lbs (not puppies) and Cats are allowed. Pets are not able to roam freely in the community, as this may disrupt the comfort of other residents. We have ample outdoor areas for pets to be walked and "do their business" Residents or their families are responsible to either clean up after their pet or hire a service to do so. Speak with our Community Relations Coordinator for more details.
Prior to beginning work with our residents all staff must complete: Standard Precautions training. 16 hour of training related to resident rights, fire safety, client group specific needs. Monthly staff are trained at the monthly all staff meeting in an area of concern or when a new task is being introduced to ensure full comprehension. Medication Aides must complete the State of WI 2- day course in Medication Administration. Following this initial training, staff are delegated (trained) in tasks such as inhalers, nebulizers, injections, suppositories as required by the Nurse Delegation Act. Within 90 days or hire all staff must complete the state of Wisconsin required Fire Safety Training, First Aide and Alleviation of Conscious Choking training. Staff also receive transfer training and after 1year of employment and annually thereafter complete 16 hours of continuing education training.

My husband and I have moved to Blue Jay Springs in Green Bay. We are in memory care. There's nothing bad I can say about it. I think we'll be very happy here. It has good food, and it's presented nicely, but everybody's got different tastes, and I think it's on the bland side, but nobody else seems to care. One of the reasons that we chose the place was because it was so clean. They have beautiful patios and gardens, with some of them fenced in and some not. They have activities every day. They keep the residents busy, and they take them outside. I'd like to say there are activities every morning. I don't know about the afternoon because we've only been here a couple of days. I can see one of the gardens from my husband's room, and yesterday I saw they had big bowling pins and a big-sized beach ball, which is a little bigger than a basketball but soft. They would go around and give it to each one that was sitting there, and they'd try to hit the pins. There was an activity director there, and he did this with them. I think they also play bingo.
About Blue Jay Springs in Green Bay, Wisconsin
Marla Vista Memory Care is a secure community compassionately caring for individuals with late-stage dementias and Alzheimer's Disease. The building structure is designed to assist with behaviors associated with memory impairment. Such as a fear of sleeping alone. Every two apartments have an adjoining bathroom between them so residents who sleep better with others can leave the doors open and not feel alone. Other apartments offer private bathrooms for those with special needs or who are not as advanced in their dementia.
The use of the color "green" is found throughout the community. Green is associated with a feeling of peace and serenity and promotes memory and appetite (ever wonder why chalkboards were always green?).
The community is circular so residents can walk, and walk and walk!! The circular structure will enclose a large, central yard and patio....allowing residents to go outside unaccompanied whenever they wish (weather permitting!).
The emphasis at Marla Vista Memory Care is on routine and familiarity. Those with memory deficit function best with a set routine that never changes. The staff at Marla Vista Memory Care strives to provide this. The community Activity Director is an experienced professional with many years of experience working with this patient group. Families are encouraged to bring furnishings, decor and pictures from home to surround residents with familiar items to make them feel safe.
