Upon discharge from the hospital and fighting a serious infection, facility did not provide pain meds or antibiotics for over 24 hours! Nursing staff and aides aren't friendly or expedient. Consistently trying to give incorrect pain meds. Beware! Nurses/aides are supposed to change dressing twice a day because their wound vaccine is broken. Need to wait four days for a new one. Wound dressing not changed in 27 hours! There is no one to call. Family must come to track down help. Lack of communication. Food is horrible. Front desk doesn't greet you upon arrival. There is literally nothing good to say about this facility. Do your loved ones a favor and place them elsewhere.

This place is NOT what they proclaim. The "care" is practically nonexistent. The conditions are deplorable. The family member who was there was only allowed to shower once a week and never given enough to eat. When my cousin tried to contact a nurse, she was put through to voicemail, only to hear that voicemail box was full. And every time she called, it was full. And what's worse, our family member deteriorated while there. We found her a great place elsewhere and had her transported. As soon as she left Vierra, she became lucid again. While our family is now in a good place, we're writing this review to warn others and suggest you NOT send a loved one to this facility.

A few days into my loved one's stay at Vierra, Vierra administered 10 times the dosage of medication into her IV bag. That caused her to go into convulsions, unconscious and moaning, and she died at the hospital five days later. This was not just a random mistake. Vierra was already under a corrective action plan with CMMS For a 25% error rate in their administration of medication. Nobody should choose Vierra when look for rehab services.

Their motto is "caring makes a difference" and they make you feel that way when you sign up for them to take care of your loved ones. I was even told by the head of the facility that "any day that your husband is not in our facility we will fully reimburse you". This did not happen. My husband was in there for 12 days and when I asked for my refund I was told that they were holding $1,000, for bed hold. They wanted 5 days advance notice that he was leaving. Well he died so I could not inform them of the 5 day notice. I also did not sign any documentation that said that was the case. Anyway they are not going to reimburse me for the 5 days that my husband wasn't even there. They take advantage of the people who are left behind and it's just not right. Please shop around for another facility.

Powhatan Nursing Home was excellent; hospice also took part in my husband's care. They arranged for hospice to come in and the staff was very friendly and they kept me informed. They were able to give him a bath and kept him clean. He never asked for food at the hospital, but he expressed interest in eating there at the community. The care at the nursing home was more than good. My husband seemed to be comfortable as much as he could be. The place is older, but it was clean and they have activities like music. They also gave me a good meal. It was expensive, but it was worth it.

He was at Powhatan Nursing Home. It was a smaller facility that seemed to be well-managed. The staff was friendly and helpful, and we thought the care was good, so we were happy with it.

The people at Powhatan Nursing Home seemed to be nice and the layout even though it’s old, it’s nice. I’ve eaten there. To me, the food is bland somewhat but that’s standard fare because everybody can eat it. My father just keeps seasoning with him and puts it on his food himself. They have several activities. There are a variety of games, and there are movies, and other things of that nature. If you were getting therapy, therapy would come in. I like the convenience of it by being right here and not being outrageously priced for where it’s located. It was easy enough to get in and get out. There wasn’t a big registration. They allow him to leave without any particular notice. The rooms are connected by a bathroom. They are bigger and they allow the people to decorate them and bring things in. They’ve had them painted and they do all kinds of other things that are very accommodating so people can bring in a little bit of home with them and still be comfortable. I would strongly suggest checking out Powhatan.
