My mom has moved into The Peaks at South Jordan. She is doing great there. They're providing much more care to her than the other facility. I worked with the marketing person, the executive director, and a couple of the nurses, and all of them have been great. The executive director was very good at explaining their care system and how they go about taking care of particularly demented patients, and so it was very, very helpful to work with her. She gave me great advice about using the house doctor and how that would be good for my mom. My mom's room is a very nice private room. They furnished a bed and a nightstand, so I didn't have to do that. We just had to furnish a dresser and her personal effects. She has her own bathroom and shower with safety chairs and rails that she's been using successfully with help from the staff. They also provide a large shower room if they have to work with the patients more. They have two options that way. They offer an incontinence care package, which is very helpful for Mom. That's an additional fee, but it's very nice. The nice thing about their common areas is that it's more open and the patients aren't all just crammed into one small spot. The common dining area is central. It's enclosed in kind of an atrium-type style, so you can see all around it. It's more like a restaurant. My brother and sister-in-law had a snack there with them. They had some pumpkin pie, and they said it was really good. My mom doesn't vocalize very well, but she seems to be eating better than in the previous facility. They have many activities. On my mom's move-in day, she baked brownies, they played some sort of game with balloons, and they had puzzles. She has participated, which is far better than in the other facility. The grounds are very pretty with manicured grass. There's always a caregiver out there with the residents, but they can go out and wander and be secure on the grounds. Besides the incontinence package, they also have a salon, which is great. You work directly with the salon like you would an outside salon. They also have a van that goes on rides and little shopping trips. Mom hasn't gotten to do those yet. She has only been there about five days. It's a little bit on the pricey side though.
