Questions about Brookdale Richland Hills
What ongoing training does the staff receive in dementia care?
Upon hire we train our associates using a curriculum created by Brookdale specific to dementia care for a total of 24 hours. After hire, associates shadow current associates for 3 days. Annually, we require and provide an additional 12-24 hours of training.
How many staffers are on duty in the daytime and overnight?
We staff our community based on the varying needs of our residents. Brookdale uses a unique staffing formula that takes into account the unique needs of our residents in order to provide adequate staffing at any time of day. This means that we often staff at a ratio higher than the state requirements.
What programs or activities does Brookdale Richland Hills offer to keep residents engaged? How does the staff engage residents' long-term memories?
Our Daily Path includes a structured routine to keep our residents active and engaged throughout the day. Activities are scheduled every 2-3 hours and vary based on the cognitive ability of each resident to ensure optimal engagement. We also use technology in our daily interaction to enhance our resident programs. The staff are trained in person centered care and participate in resident programming as part of our daily path.
Who assesses residents' health and cognitive functioning? How often is that assessment repeated?
Our team of nurses provide personal service assessments to determine care needs. These assessments are provided prior to move in, 30 days after move in, every 6 months and upon significant change in condition. We also work with a regional team of nurses that are local and offer support to our community nurses.
What techniques does Brookdale Richland Hills use to support memory care residents during mealtimes?
To enhance our dining experience, we play soft music, the Brookdale Refresh program (warm scented towels to awaken the senses prior to meal time), specialized dining for residents that require additional assistance (caregiver assistance with eating, texture modified food) and we honor the food preferences of our individual residents.
How does Brookdale Richland Hills keep residents' families informed about their loved ones' health?
We include our families in our routine scheduled care service plans. Additionally, we contact families by phone, email and text message to communicate significant events within the community. Monthly family Town Hall meetings another way we stay in contact with our families and communicate community updates.
